THE MAP amzn.to/3pWbzMi THE CAMERA tidd.ly/2ZGhr1v Full gear list in the description. So sad to see another death on Crib Goch just a couple of days after I posted this. I’m unsure if the mountain rescue helicopter scenes at the end of this video had anything to do with it or not, but it serves as a reminder that exploring breathtaking scenery often comes with the risk of severe injury and death. It sadly happens all too often on this ridge and the recent tragic incident made me think that I should point it out at the very top of the comment section. I made this video to show off the magnificence of Crib Goch and the Snowdon horseshoe, and while indeed stunning, it is also very dangerous. Please use extreme caution if planning your first visit. My video shows some of the beauty, but in reality some of the most difficult parts were too difficult to film and do not feature in the video. Even after completing this route many times I still did not feel confident or skilled enough to film it all. Take advice from official Snowdonia National Park sources, do your research, get some training, or go with someone experienced. Enjoy this amazing place, but please take the risks very seriously. RIP those lost on this mountain. Chris

I've seen so many videos on the Snowdon Horseshoe, many of them good. I've done it myself twice, filmed it and loved every minute of it. So when I tell you that THIS is hands-down EASILY the best Horseshoe video I have ever seen I'm being completely serious and genuine. The weather, the colouring and the unobscured shots. The drone footage, the set up shots, the calm music, the editing, no talking, the views and the whole way it is presented is just a benchmark for anybody wanting to try and make a better video. I say it's impossible. There are some notable shots that I thought were stunning: the drone shot looking over The Horns, and that bit with the cloud rising over the ridge of Crib Goch with you walking through it around 8:57. And what I find amusing is how so many set off early in order to beat the crowds and then they themselves end up BEING the crowd because they've all had the same idea! I've been up there in the worst conditions thinking surely I'd have it to myself but nope!!! An absolutely breathtaking video. It will take something massive to challenge the brilliance of this!

Thanks Lord, great to read, appreciate it. Great weather for this one. I’m not a huge fan of adding music, as I think you know, but this one ended up with it after I dropped my camera and it smashed the mic plug uo. But it worked out ok. Have not been up Crib Goch in quite a while now but yes you’re right. I’ve had a few busy sunrises up there, but find that often, if you arrive a couple of hours after sunrise, you’ll have it to yourself, as everyone has pushed through early. Cheers mate, get some drinks down ya… 😀

Brilliant video and certainly the best I’ve seen of the Snowdon Horseshoe climb or in fact any Snowdon climb. The aerial drone and regular video is superbly shot/framed and the ethereal music really does add an "other worldly" feel to a very special climb on a perfect day. Very well done Chris and thank you so much for sharing. I can totally understand you saying in the comments section that despite your experience some parts of the climb were so difficult that you could not film them. As a novice I did the same climb about 15 years ago (well before youtube videos etc) but only as I was given such a false sense of confidence by a much more experienced climber that I agreed to do this climb. I had done the miner’s path ascent to Snowdon before so thought how much more difficult could this be. I couldn’t be more wrong and once I got past the point of no return I was so nervous during the Crib Goch ascent that I wasn’t even able to take my camera out of my back pack. I still get the “squeaky bum” feeling whenever I even think back to the climb and memories of people “frozen” along the ridge and gripping the rocks with dear life. Seeing your presentation is a very surreal and must say at times therapeutic experience. I can (almost) enjoy reliving the experience via your video. By the way, after having completed Crib Goch (in probably the slowest time ever) I was told the second part of the horse shoe was more of the same though but much less extreme. Having lost all faith in my companions ability to tell it “as it is” and thinking he was giving me a false sense of confidence again I declined and we descend via the Pyg track. Having seen your video presentation I wish I had done that part of the trek as it does look less onerous than Crib Goch. Maybe I will now or at least when these pandemic days are past us. Thanks again and well done Chris.

I forgot to add mate, are you using the A73? If so do you have any recommendations on picture profiles or colour settings to use. I have recently upgraded and I am struggling to find the best settings to use. I only like to lightly grade / correct in post. Cheers - Tom
@chrishomer
@chrishomer 3 жыл бұрын
@@FellowOnTheFells thank Tom. Appreciated. Yes mate, often an A73. Colour profiles I experiment with, but only because I enjoy it and it’s a great way to learn. I film for a living with big Sony’s, and playing with this has been surprisingly useful. Without those things I’d probably use standard, it’s bloody good out the box and I think people overate the colour profile use personally, particularly KZfaq folk 😆 All that said, I often use HLG3 as it’s quick to grade and adds a good amount of dynamic range, I have it set up custom with low saturation and sharpness. I’m thinking I’ll spend a bit more time in slog in the future, but more as a learning curve than any real attempt to get better footage.

Thanks. No I don’t unfortunately, I have quite a few tripods, some small and lightweight, carbon etc but 9 times out of 10 I take my big old heavy aluminium manfrotto. Mainly because it’s less likely to blow over in the mountain wind but also because it’s rock steady, and I shoot a lot of timelapse. The lightweights just don’t cut it. Plus think of a heavy tripod as good exercise.... 😂

I actually don't understand the impulse that drives someone to film themselves and post this stuff on here and I say that as someone who has been walking in Snowdonia for 40 years. It seems like it's not enough to just go out and have a lovely day anymore - wild places have become theme parks. Having said that, I occasionally watch this stuff because I can't currently get there myself, so I guess I put my reservations aside. Sorry, I can't write an admiring review - I genuinely don't understand it. That's not a criticism of the filming or editing, just my own puzzlement at the reasons behind it. Each to their own though I guess. Stay safe out there.
