I remember just over ten years ago I did this for the first time solo. Couldn’t get the idea out of my head so abruptly packed a bag and went on a warm Friday morning. This is the best way. Avoids Llanberis, Pyg Track, Watkins and Snowden Ranger - pretty much all terminally tedious. I like to cool my feet off in the lake before returning to the car. Another interesting fact is that the Pen y Pass car park is actually free. All you get is a sticker saying can you please pay within the month and then nothing after! I had this out with someone who claimed paying helped out maintenance of paths etc and i should contribue on that basis, which is bullshit - just a cowboy car park firm. I lived in Gwynedd at the time and i'm not paying council tax and an extortionate car park fee. All day (which you would need for the Horseshoe) was a tenner back then (5 years). Dread to think what it is now. Other car parks eg Snowden Ranger are also free - it pays to read and understand all small print. That said, parking on the roadside with no parking signs/double yellow lines will incur a ticket/towing.

It’s a great route but saying it’s the best route Is just your personal preference. I love it but tryfan and glyder circular down into devils kitchen is pretty special too and there’s plenty more.
