Cutting Pepakura on a CRICUT Maker
A tutorial on how to use Cricut Design Space to cut Pepakura files on a Cricut cutter.
I have now added a sound track for my dear family’s sake.
I have used a Silhouette cutter for many years and only recently bought a Cricut. I was very disappointed when I realized I couldn’t cut Pepakura files with it.
I searched the internet high & wide and found no solution. I spent days and weeks looking for a work around. I finally came up with the ideas that this tutorial explains. Using Design Space to cut Pepakura files.
Check it out and let me know if it works for you.

how can you get it to cut those internal cuts that go between the tabs and the other pieces?

Do you know of any issue when uploading the sheet used for sizing, it just displays as one full color. In the upload screen in cricut designer it does show the pieces properly, but once placed into the design space its just a sheet of one color. I have about 2 or 3 so far from 39 sheets.

hello robert plate, thank you very much for the tutorial, I come from your same situation, I created papercraft for some time with cameo, and recently I bought a cricut maker that for me is far superior to a silhuette cameo, but I just can't create papercraft with pepperand cricut. I'm desperate and Don't know how to do since I sold my cameo. I'd like to ask you 2 things: how come from the drop-down menu of my pepakura there is not the vector export file in svg format ? with the svg format is not better ? I ask because I am ignorant about it. then one last thing, is it not possible to print in a larger area without having to reduce the image so much and waste so much paper accordingly? I make real-size models of 180 to 250 pages...also if I start from a .pdo file that can not open with pepakura design , but only with pepakura viewer how can I shrink the images not being able to resize the page , but only the image itself ? moreover, it is impossible to scale the image from 100% to 87% without compromising the final size of the finished model right?thank you very much of everything , and if you want to contact me or who has the same problem want to get in touch I would be willing to ask tamasoft and cricut to collaborate and maybe tamasoft to create a software like pepakura viewer for silhuette cameo, but for cricut , or even better, it would be enough to insert an export file for cricut into the existing program. this would make many users happy in my opinion ..... Mistake???

If I have a 12 inch cutting mat why can’t I use regular letter sized paper
@robertplate8430

Brady, you can cut 12 x 24 inch as long as you don’t have to print it. The PRINT AND CUT limits you to the smaller size because of the print alignment outline.

So I can't print a standard 8.5 x 11 inch card stock page??? That sucks.

@@robertplate8430 would you consider making a video on how you accomplish this with Silhouette? I have a Cricut but would consider switching if I could see the difference in the process on Silhouette

Jimmy, there are all kinds of tutorials for Pepakura. My tutorial was how to use Cricut Design Space to cut them out. Do a search for Pepakura. Heres an overview tutorial to get you introduced. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bcdmqa6Ut9TdlHU.html or kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7aRg6mbzs_Xqas.html or kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jLSfqK2gsczeaJc.html and on and on...

Do you know how I can cut paper cardstock that I already printed beforehand without using cricut's print out option? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to make it so that cricut understands where to cut because they don't accept pdf files and the converted png/svg files all import to the design space in wrong sizes. I can't be off even 1mm, so its driving me nuts because it seems i have to manually resized and measure and move cut files to the exact pixel correlating to the mat. Why won't they just let me put a 8.5x11 letter sized paper on the mat on the 1x1 square and have them decipher the coordinates from there. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I'm going to try a few things that you mentioned though, hopefully i can figure this out.

So i uploaded the png of pdf convert without removing the white background so its a full rectangular page. Then I make it 8.5x11 and use it as a template. Then I import the same one but remove the white background and match it 1:1 to the print to cut image. Then because you can't "make it" with the print to cut image option, i hid it by using the eye. This should have been fool proof. Except it wasn't. The mat, even though now it has a 8.5x11 option for mat in the drop down menu in the make it screen, theres still the red border that prevents me from lining the paper exactly on the 1x1 marker which complicates it even more. So after just trying to see if i can even cut, i use a plain sheet of paper, as expected its offset too much to the left and to my dismay, it was like 10% too large when I matched the white paper pieces to my textured page. I'm completely stumped. DAMIT, if i ever figure this out, i'm going to make a god dam tutorial so no one will ever suffer this way. I feel so helpless, with a 400 dollar paper cutter that doesn't cut right.

What a pain in the neck. Why would any serious maker use Cricut for anything? Their machine might look nicer and have a few other bells and whistles that the Cameo doesn't have but from all my experience cutting with both, the cutting quality is pretty much the same. The Silhouette software and system allows infinitely more control and is far easier to use and doesn't require all these ridiculous steps to be taken. It seems like everything with Cricut has to be hacked in order to make it usable and the result is never as good because of it.

I don't understand either. I looked this up because I intend to produce inkjet and laser prints then feed them into a Cricut and load up a corresponding svg pattern for the Cricut to use. Is it really not this simple? I have no intention of using a Cricut "built in" printing feature which will undoubtedly be inferior to my inkjet printer. My understanding was that you could simply feed Cricut a properly prepared svg file and it would cut along the lines. Why is the video bothering with all these bmp files and manual resizing (*cringe*) and other nonsense??
