"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZfaq. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZfaq, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

As someone of Arab ethnicity, I am so utterly disappointed by the passivity of the Arab world. Other than the Houthis, all they do is issue statements and verbal outrage, while their actions support Israel by letting goods flow and lending their airspace. So many non-violent ways to oppose this genocide. Cut off oil supply, do something! I’m disgusted by the betrayal. Ireland, so far from Palestine, has stood more for them than their neighbours.

My theory is they know darn well Israel wants the entirety of what was Hebrew territory thousands of years ago and are hoping if they can maintain a stalemate between Israel and the remaining Palestinian Territories Israel will be too busy with its Palestine problem to start contemplating taking chunks out of their territory. That and Israel is the only nuclear power in the area unless Iran and the Saudis develop nukes.

This Crown Prince's words don't match his actions in supressing any public support of the Palestinians. Many Palestinians are in Saudi jails with no charges. He is the one who allowed cargo be transported through Saudi to Israel to bypass the Houthi targeting Israeli ships. He allows Israeli flights over Saudi and has taken no action at all in support of the Palestinians to stop the genocide.

Such a heavy point from Kyle about unrest. The single reason why Saudi Arabia is so maniacally religious today is that the strict religion was used by the Royal Family as a way to ensure dictatorship from its very inception. You have a better chance of survival if you insult God in Saudi Arabia than if you insult the Royal Family. It was designed this way from the start. Looking at it historically, millions upon MILLIONS of dollars in effective bribes were handed to the religious leaders, who had VERY close links to the Royal Family, in order to perpetuate strict Islam in Saudi Arabia from the very start of the nation's founding. When the oil price grew, that number moved into the BILLIONS. The SINGLE purpose of using such powerful Religious leaders at the very CORE of the Kingdom, AND its government, was for the Saudi Royal family to ensure control of the people by giving the religious leaders ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGNTY in dictating the nation's society in the STRICTEST manner they desire, AS LONG AS UNQUESTIONED loyalty to the Saudi Royal family was baked INTO that religion by default BY FORCE. Saudi's turned around to their religious leaders from the very beginning and said "do that, and we'll literally give you millions of dollars twice a week for WHATEVER you want culturally in terms of spreading Islam in our country, and you have FULL REIGN to do WHATEVER the hell you please in our nation." This was the grand deal, the grand bargain, and is the foundation upon which modern Saudi society is built. But now it's hit a snag. Many younger Saudi Royal generations see this crap for what it is, and really DGAF, they shamelessly gamble, sleep around, are materialistic, egotistical, typical rich young brat snobbish (you should see some of the shocking hostility Crown Prince Bin Salman has shown to Hamas leadership, almost Israeli talking points at various times, probably out of pure arrogance, frustration and boredom, frankly), while at the same time, many OG Family members really do believe in Islam and Muslim identity root and stem as a source of cultural and national pride. This has created a MASSIVE rift in the political factions in the Saudi Royal family in the vying factions that want to rule the kingdom. But this is the REAL problem: because they used FUNDAMENTAL STATE ISLAM as the VERY foundation of their entire grip on society, by using it as a source of national and cultural identity, in order to give FULL power to the religious leaders who enforce their will upon the entire populace, at the expense of the ENTIRE country following RADICAL Islam, they have FULL CONTROL. This was the deal. This now means that the entirity of the Kingdom now believes fully in Islamic theology, and believe in the prophecies about Jewish poeple with fundamentalist fervor, and is now effectively antisemitic more or less, in exchange for that power, believing that Jews will one day bring about the downfall of the world. Now, can you imagine the ARMAGEDDON that it would cause in the nation if you had Israeli figures visiting Saudi Arabia at a time like this? The political unrest could unravel EVERYTHING that this entire Royal Family has built upon societal control, it would cause deep resentment, and MASSIVE anger in secret, and this is something that the Royal Family GREATLY, GREATLY fears, has feared an Iranian-Style revolution since it's very inception. There is a MASSIVE war between Islamic nations, and no, it is NOT over RELIGIOUS ideology, it is a MASSIVE battle between Republicanism and Monarchy. This is why Iran and ALL Arabian Peninsula countries have ALWAYS been at each other's throats, and SPECIFICALLY why the only country that is allied with Iran in the entire Arabian Peninsula is YEMEN, as they do NOT have a Monarchy. The GREATEST FEAR of all the Arabian monarchies is being overthrown by a public revolt, a public uprising, a military coup by their own people, it is the biggest fear for ALL of them, and ALL Politics, Religion, Culture, Economies, Military, Defense Strategy, every SINGLE part of ALL Arabian nations apart from Yemen have been shaped from their VERY inception by this SINGLE fear. This is one of the bigger reasons why the Saudis have always wanted a defence pact with the US for SO LONG, but the US always refused because of the optics of sending US servicemen to a Muslim country after 9/11, and it shows how DESPERATE Biden has now become by offering something like this in exchange for peace, and how much of a nightmare this scenario has now truly become diplomatically. Going back to the Saudis, it would seem that the "OG" religious political factions in the Saudi Royal family, through reason, through political unity, through sheer common sense perhaps, have now forced Crown Prince Bin Salman's hand, and have convinced him that even if he doesn't agree with the religious factions, WHETHER ANY OF THEM LIKE IT OR NOT, THERE WILL BE A THREAT OF MASS REVOLT in the Kingdom among the ENTIRE populace, and the threat of a political uprising/secret insurgency plot if they DARE to welcome "normalized" Israeli relations, ESPECIALLY AT A TIME of Israel committing genocide and MASS MURDER in the holy land of Ancient Israel, which is DEEPLY SACRED to Muslims religiously. It's ironic. Crown Prince Bin Salman and his factions in the Royal Family wanted NOTHING more than this defence pact but a single year ago, but he now has enough sense, or had been convinced it seems, that the other factions are right, and that he cannot, under ANY circumstance, allow normalization of relations with Israel under these circumstances, the cost is far too great, it is either to support the Palestinian cause to prevent normalization until it is rectified to the religious faction's satisfaction, or risk a mass scale public uprising and being overthrown by his own people, possibly even his own Royal family if thing got far worse. The Saudis only care about maintaining power over their MASSIVELY wealthy kingdom, and getting as much money as humanly possible from oil reserves. They know they can't do that if they don't even have a country to control, if they're rounded up and thrown into jail over being traitors to the very religion they set up to control their entire people. Since 10/7, the Arab foreign ministers, mainly from Saudi, Jordan, and Egypt have been traveling the world and meeting with leaders to convince them to join their proposals for a lasting peaceful resolution in the Middle East. And today, we thankfully see that Palestine is recognized as a sovereign state by 145 member states of the UN. American and Israeli politicians have been repeating the same BS about normalizing relations with Saudi ONLY to serve their political interests during election season. Yes, they are talking about a “pathway” , but it is still CONTINGENT upon establishing a Palestinian state. The funny thing is that the Saudis are getting everything they need from America without budging 😂 kudos to them! Western politicians and media continue to omit this condition, only to have some sensational news 🙄 STOP listening to them, you all know they’re lying, go back to Saudi statements about the issue. Also relevant, after the conclusion of a 50 years agreement with the US, Saudi will no longer sell oil in US dollars and BRICS countries (3.5 billion people, 45% of the world population) are moving away from the US dollar.
