Great video like always, Ken. I love DTS X audio. Here is a link for all, if not most movies that are in DTS X. Since of my favorites are Battleship, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, Bad Boys for life, Atomic Blonde, Gladiator, Independence Day. The Harry Potter and Jurassic Park/World movies sound fantastic too.

I don’t know if the link came through because YT usually pulls them down but I’m sure I can look it up. I’ve just not paid that close attention to anything NOT Atmos and DTS-X has certainly gotten my attention. Thanks for that quick list!

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of the paranormal. I actually want to stay in a supposed haunted house for the night. However as it stands I don’t personally believe in spirits and ghosts. This is because I think some people strongly believe. Due to projection from their mind (visual hallucinations) The mind is very powerful when used to its full capabilities. We are all so busy as humans in this fast paced life. We rarely get chance to explore psychologically. When we do have the opportunity it’s amazing what we can imagine and create. I would love to be proven wrong. As it stands right now I don’t think Ghosts and paranormal entities are real. Great video mate, I always enjoy your in-depth takes and analysis on the movies you watch.

Thank for the thoughtful reply. I always love hearing other people’s perspectives. I myself have had some pretty unique experiences that I know I didn’t imagine…it was “something else” is about all I can say. It was “mist” that manifests out of nowhere. And it’s happened multiple times that my wife and I have seen with our own eyes. No hot water running, no misters or air fresheners spraying…just “random mist” that we’ve seen in both our home and her mothers home. No idea what it was or where it came from, but sure didn’t seem “natural.” But yeah - to each their own. I think all this stuff can be subjective towards what is “truth.” You know I love getting into thoughtful conversations 😉

@@ungraduatedmedia My grandma swears she saw something very unsettling in her previous house. When she was sleeping in her spare room. She apparently woke in middle of the night and saw a tall pale older lady wearing Victorian clothing standing near the doorway staring at her. Other relatives who have slept in that room also claim to have an uncomfortable feeling.

Just to share, I have had this strange experience many a times. I am in deep sleep and suddenly I feel I'm conscious that I am sleeping in my room, same bed, same posture and position and suddenly an apparition or something, with no face or body just a shadow of some kind grips me with full force and starts shaking me hard. I'm fully conscious that I am sleeping in my room, yelling hard for help but can't make any sound, trying hard to get up from my sleep but I can't. The whole body has a kind of chill running under the skin of my whole body. I feel completely paralized during that time. I literally wake up after struggling a lot for about 30 seconds or more to get out of that grip of something/ someone, and then see everything normal in the room. Even after waking up, for sometime I feel it was real, that there was something in the room that attacked me. When I tried to find out about this uncanny phenomenon, I read somewhere that it's common experience as others have also reported it and it has something to do with 'sleep paralysis'. However, it doesn't quite explain what induces it and if that short experience was real or a dream or a hallucination of some sort!

Hey Ken, Great review, enjoyed every bit of it as always from start to finish! I never heard of this movie, so pretty intrigued and excited to check it out, the packaging looks great, the ss you showed are just magnificent and I cannot wait to order it and play it on my QD-OLED TV. The gothic tale genre is one of my favourites. Though, at the risk of sounding snobbish, I feel many directors fail to build up that spine-chilling atmosphere for my taste. Showing horribly distorted faces and creepy music and sudden burst of sound fails to grip me with that shock of terror. Their terror inducing protagonist usually is (I'm afraid) way too conspicuous and crude than being, cold, evasive, illusory, like an apparition, a passing shadow, that never reveals itself but keeps haunting you with greater intencity through the horror in the eyes of the victims. So, imho, it's the terror and anxiety, tension that the victims feel, through which the audience gets that goosebumps and shivering chill running through your spine. In a nutshell, what Alfred Hitchcock said, 'There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it'. 'The woman in black' (1989) was the most terrifying and haunting movie I have watched. Shutter, Audition are some other movies I liked. Regarding DTS:X, the only movie I remember that I watched was 'The Aquaman'. Man, what a kick-*ss sound it had, shook floors and my roof, that fight scene inside the submarine was just knocking my socks off with the huge room filling sound. I agree, DTS:X could be a potential alternative to Dolby Atmos, but we rarely find movies with that encoding. If you'd be interested, I'm a huge admirer of Edgar Allan Poe (19th century legendary American writer and poet, master of gothic fiction writer and father of detective stories) and his tales are capable of sending chilling sensation through my spines. There are many old classic movies based on his tales, with Vincent Price being the main actor in most of them. As for the uncanny, supernatural, life after death and spirits, that's a huge topic my friend, and I really can't dare to give just one perspective, I think there's a lot of phenomena still unexplored, unexplained and we don't quite understand or our brain in its current evolved state or capacity cannot take it or comprehend it. Some atheists completety abandon such ideas because they don't fit in the paradigm of Science. But equally, there are known scientists or people with scientific bent or rational mind, who have started creating (or accomodating) room for the unknown that science cannot yet explain it instead of calling it rubbish ( like atheists do), so they are studying these so called supernatural phenomena from a different perspective. There's a renowned biologist Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, who has scientifically started researching about these uncanny experiences that humans have reported for many centuries. Excellent review. I'd easily rate PQ at a full 5 stars though! But I can see how someone watching through a projector might knock it down a notch due to being dark in many scenes. I'm watching on a newer OLED with perfect blacks which just gives the picture even better contrast, and being brighter than most projectors means more room for improved shadow detail. All this to say I believe your 4 stars for PQ has more to do with your display choice than the technical merits of the disk itself. And I personally would never deduct points from a release for accurately representing the intended look of a film, which I consider a plus. That adds a level of personal preference alongside your display's capability of handling dark scenes vs objectively speaking on what the disc can achieve. Aside from that I think this review was very well executed and hope more people stumble across it!

Thanks Paul - well said. Even though I have what I believe to be a higher ended projector, you’re 100% right about it never being able to compete with an OLED. I still think it looked amazing though . Very beautifully and artistically done. Overall I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for dropping a comment.

@ungraduatedmedia oh, no doubt. That Sony projector is nothing to scoff at and I'm sure you had yourself a ball with the film! A family member has a home theater setup and uses the XW5000ES as well. For that price range it's hard to beat. The next Sony model up is double the price 😅! As awesome as projectors are (good ones like your Sony I mean) you'll still lose a fair amount of shadow detail and occasionally find yourself wishing darker movies were brighter, such as the case with Crimson Peak. You may want to consider getting a more technically advanced TV for critical viewing and reviews, but continue to use the projector for your leisurely watching. The majority of people watching your channel will be using newer TV tech that will differ from your projector in ways, so you'd be more on the same level with your audience by doing your critical viewing on an OLED or a nice mini-LED. Again, Awesome projector, but I knew for a fact I had to experience Crimson Peak on my own setup first to witness its full potential. I'll take 4k discs I've already watched over to the projector house, or new discs if it's just a Blu-ray and I know it's a bright film. So yeah, no shade at all on your setup. I just see projectors as fun time viewing over critical disc viewing, and I think if you'd seen Crimson Peak on my setup you wouldn't have felt it was too dark and deducted a star. Regardless, movies through the 5000 rule and I completely understand sacrificing some quality for the immersion it offers. It's not my personal preference, but I do get it. Most importantly I'm glad you enjoyed the film because it does have a small but very vocal group of naysayers who expected a modern feel, run of the mill horror flick and claim it sucks. They're clearly all wrong though! 😎

@@PaulNaschy-bo7fu it’s funny as before I even saw your response I was thinking the exact same thing you were responding over. As much as I love the “aesthetic” and theater feel of a projector, I would like to experience 4k on an OLED TV. I haven’t had that experience yet so I may very well do what you’re saying. And yeah - I couldn’t see the value for a few more lumens and “auto screen fixing” for double the price of my current projector.

@ungraduatedmedia the only problem you may have is getting used to such a drop in size. You'll need a 77" or 83" if you go OLED. Unfortunately there is no 83" QD-OLED and the few 83" OLED models jump up drastically in price for that extra 6 inches. Judging from your current setup you seem like the kind of guy that doesn't mess around when it comes to gear though, so I'd highly recommend skipping best buy, target, etc. and doing your shopping at Value Electronics based out of New York. It's a family owned and ran shop dealing in quality A/V equipment and they've been in business for almost 30 years. They'll work with you to get you exactly what you want and for a few hundred bucks more they'll run your TV through its break-in period in order to get it to peak brightness prior to running a professional calibration. I'm pretty sure D-Nice is still doing their calibrations and he's amongst the best in the country. Pretty much the best option available for anyone in the US looking to get their display as close to reference as possible and avoid screen defects, as they'll also perform a full Q/C to spot any abnormal banding, stuck pixels, tinting, and screen uniformity issues. You won't get that kind of service or assurance from the big box stores.

@@PaulNaschy-bo7fuyour right…I don’t mess around when it comes to my gear lol. I appreciate the suggestion as I’ll most certainly check into them. I know the size will be a step down but I still would like to experience OLED at its finest. I know there is one particular brand that does do Dolby Vision (Samsung I think) and some that will not. I’d definitely want to get one with Dolby Vision capability.
