My Cathy's Curse green eyes had the same problem. A new pair of CR1220 batteries (cost me $10) and a bit of fussing, solved the issue. Works fine for now.

Will this trick also work with region locked dvds? I'm saving up to buy a Panasonic DP-UB824, (as far as I know the UB824 is a European version of the UB820) and I want to collect some blu-rays and dvds that are from region A and 1.

These are some movies I never really thought to check out except for Cathy’s Curse. Frank kind of sold me on that one too lol

I only grab a 4K copy if it comes with a Bluray in it. I find that (apart from HDR) the two versions are pretty comparable especially if you have a decent TV. Also, I bought Beetlejuice about 5 years ago on Bluray and a 4K copy was released recently without a Blu-ray disc. So if I did get the 4k copy, I'd have two cases for one movie. If the 4k copy came with a Bluray, I would have bought it and then sold/gave away my original Bluray copy like I did when the same thing happened with Batman (1989).

This movie is crazy af. I still remember seeing that VHS box art at Blockbuster when I was kid, freaked me out. So glad it got a 4K, this is a must buy.

Does it only work on BR/UHD or does it work on DVD a well?

When I received my Cathy's Curse slipbox both eyes weren't working, so I looked online and saw comments that it might be the batteries. I replaced both batteries and it's working flawlessly. The batteries are CR1220 which I got on Amazon.

So very true…not only can they get scratched but they also get all smudged up with finger prints as you HAVE to grab them to pull them out…gorgeous artwork but I do not, like you, love the sleeves. I’ll say this so far - the Dolby Atmos on these discs is reference quality. It truly kicks!!

Man that is a gorgeous box! BUT I hate those types of sleeves where you store the movies! If you slide it in and out too much they’ll eventually get scratched. I am always extremely careful with my movies and yet I have managed to scratch my avatar directors cut back when it came out on blu ray

You'll never see character in film like Detective Joe ever again. I'm old enough to remember real life people like Detective Joe. What a blast from the past, for better or for worse. I got my package, and only one eye lights up. 😅 I don't know what to do except deal with it.

I thought Devil's Honey was ... well ... not great. Lot's of sex, but the script was very weak. Extremely weak. The saxophone sex was good. The main character was annoying. Every time he wanted to have sex, she said no but meant yes. How did the dog die? Did I fall asleep? The film was a mess, but it was very sexy, I will give it that. And it did have a certain ... mood, I 'll give it that as well. I want to see the Great Alligator, that sound fun, But does it have sexophone?

if the film is looking heavy grain in daylight but not as bad in the dark, Id guess that they used the same film in the light and dark scenes and it was overexposed in the light scenes causing all the grain to show, dance, and sparkle like getting hit with a flashlight LOL...seems like IF it had already hit stage 2 of decay, the grain would have been bad in the dark spots as well....

my Cathy's curse has the same issue with only one eye working

The Great Alligator - Excellent 4K transfer by Severin. Late 70s Alligator carnage. Fun cheesy creature feature. Barbara Bach & Claudio Cassinelli were great in this. Some fun practical alligator effects. Fun miniature and model designs. Nice cinematography in Sri Lanka. The 3rd act was bonkers in a good way reminded me a bit of the original Piranha (1978). Awesome unboxing of the severin haul.

***Apologies for very minor audio drop at **17:54** then a little mixed audio at **19:08**. Lasts a second or two*** Had some issues trying to process after filming. BTW - at 19:08 the cue I was trying to half-heartedly make was, “All that matters in life is that you believe in yourself.” Quote from my shirt 😉 Hope y’all enjoy!

Mine had a missing battery in one eye. Put a battery in and everything is 100 % and working. I think that was the factory error most people are having.

I have the same player mate. Most Blurays I try the trick works. But found the Bluray extras disc in the Dr Terror House of Horrors Vinegar Syndrome still won't play. I'm in the UK with a region B player and imported this VS disc from the USA.

Just bought a new Panasonic UBP820 specifically for this (2024). I’ve been following your instructions repeatedly but it won’t work. It always ends up putting up a big red warning screen telling me the disc is not compatible.

Been on the fence about getting this one...but now I'm kinda on the get every Arrow and VS limited edition so...lol

I have an 820 but this doesn't work for me. I have one 4k film that has a region locked bonus disc (sadly the film was not released in my region). When i press the "stop" button once the invalid region message appears, i get a pop-up saying it's an invalid function, and the region error remains on screen. I think whether or not it works may be dependent on the disc itself.

The source material is not the best for the transfer. It's a darkside movie

I'm all in on collecting that VSU line, I have them all. The packaging on them is first rate. Thank you my friend for taking all the trouble to do that massive unboxing for us. Appreciate it a lot. Charming artwork each in itself is fun to watch. Truly can understand collector's delight. I like those sweet little unboxing traditions or culture you have developed to give that unique signature character to your videos, for instance your sniffing the new printed material, sipping your drink, and the delicate way you cut and unwrap the plastic wrapping of the bluray box. All very sexy my friend, lol 😉 (I do that too, irresistibly sniffing brand new book pages, stationeries, pastel colour set, freshly painted oil painting on canvas, freshly chiseled wood, scented erasers, freshly unboxed shoe polish wax and a lot more such things 😂). So you watch movies while you travel, I guess for a projector man, it must be a hard thing to come in terms with it, but at least you can enjoy and focus more on the story element. Do take care my friend. I hope you get some rest and off time from your work and travel.

If I remember correctly, Sweet Sugar is a pretty old VS release (with the original slip still having the synopsis and snapshots from the film on the back), which is why the dvd is in this one and this was just a special rerelease, because I’m pretty sure the old release both standard and limited was sold out for quite some time, super sick no matter and I picked it up as well!

A little tiny bit drunk or high, maybe just on life, maybe on cough medicine? It's hard being a completionist. There was a lot of stuff I didn't get on the halfway sale, but I hope to grab some in July and the rest for Black Friday. Vinegar Syndrome is so much fun collecting, cause they let you participate with the number of items left. It's genius.And the packaging is amazing. They are hitting all the collector's soft spots. And the website is beautiful and easy to navigate. Remember to relax between work.
