@@stuco81 There were too many things about this movie that the Navy didn't like. 1) an arrogant loose cannon captain with trigger happy fingers. 2) the excessive use of foul language. 3) the idea of a mutiny. 4) unnecessary racism. 5) excessive inaccuracies. 6) over dramatization, like this NFL locker room prep speech. and the biggest offender of all. 7) a little dog pissing on a multi billion dollars worth of United States property. Other than that, it was a hell of a damn good movie.

The unfortunate part about this is that most times in the media, the Silent Service is forgotten when war is the topic. You'll hear about "boots on the ground" and "front lines" but hardly do you ever hear about heroes on submarines. Thankfully we have movies like this that give us a glimpse into their world, albeit a stylized view.

Severely underrated movie. I finally watched this last week and was blown away. Better than Hunt for Red October, K-19, and probably Das Boot although I know a lot of film nuts would consider that sacrilege. The score is so fuckin' good, too. One of my favorite movies and every squid during this erawould understand the concept of old school Navy vs New school Navy. This was a major transition of how the navy operated. The XO was right and prevented a Nuclear War but was wrong for instigating a Mutiny.

I still remember how I found this movie, and the music behind it was from an animation called Koopa Kollapse and it had the theme of this movie, and for a long time I could never find the source of the song, till one day while about to head out of my house with my family, I heard the speech, and the song start to play. I stopped in my tracks and looked to the t.v to see this movie playing.

Great movie featuring a star studded cast. Furthermore, kudos to the USS Nevada thermonuclear armed submarine #Silent Sentry, blue and gold fleet. Also the most lethal killing machine ever devised.
