My wife and I met when I was in my late thirties back in the mid nineties. It was love at first sight. She would tell me that I reminded her of Bryan Ferry, whilst I used to say she looked like Cybil Sheperd, the actress from Moonlighting. Unfortunatley we were in a motorcycle accident three and a half years after we were married. She died at the scene with me holding her hand. Now I am now 69 and this song always makes me smile as I remember the two of us getting drunk and dancing around our apartment to this song. In the months after my wife's death my world just seemed to stop and turned in on itself. I stopped living and just existed. As the months passed I tried to make sense of who I was, what my life was going to be like and would I ever be able to love again (this turned out to be no). During this period two pieces of music seemed to encapsulate my feelings, thoughts and emotions. They were, Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve and Ordinary World by Duran Duran.

Can you fall in love in a moment? Yes. Winter of 85 I had been dating this girl for a few months and we’d had a party at my house. It was the wee hours of the morning just she and I in my living room. Everyone else has either left or gone to bed. We’re a little buzzed and this song comes on. She gets up and just starts swaying and dancing so sweet and slow. She puts her hand out and takes my hand to come dance with her and it was like a lightning bolt I fell in love with her right there. 34 years later two kids and it still gives me chills when she reaches out to take my hand and dance. This song will always be special to me.

I first watched this movie when I was living alone in Tokyo back in 2007 and never understood why people didn't like the movie that much. Having lived alone in Tokyo for almost a year, I understood how real this movie was. Yes Rhiannon, that magical moment. No words, just looking in the other eyes, and a glimpse of a smile. Magical. But we were then both engaged/married. We would'nt ever break our each "marriage", even if they were'nt happy ones. As P Pumpkin says, an impossible love. Now a widow due to a stupid pool accident, I tried to get back to her, 15 years later, find her to no vail. Only to think of her, her well being, I feel so sad and desperate...

I've been watching this movie only 1000 times, and I still can not get enough. I love the story of the movie. The music complements the movie so smoothly. They both are having a hard time in life living in a foreign country with a language that they don't speak. They find each other and despite their age difference, they feel comfortable. They are engaged in relationships that don't want to destroy. Nevertheless, they enjoy & complement each other, and is nice to be together. Time end and they find it very hard to say Goodbye pretending as nothing existed. But there is an unexpected Goodbye, the most beautiful goodbye ever.

This song is perfect for this movie...which is kinda like an extended Zen moment. No yesterday, no tomorrow - just the experience of the NOW. No expectations, judgment or regret. Two souls with different life experiences, momentarily adrift in an unfamiliar and foreign terrain, finding each other and fully experiencing LIFE...knowing that it will not last forever, just like one's existence on the earthly plane. Brian Ferry's ethereal voice is perfect for these lyrics, which can be interpreted in more than one way. Each moment is the best it is going to be and that we appreciate, enjoy and live it for what it is - in its joy, sadness, beauty, surprise. A perfect moment, like a glorious cherry blossom in full bloom, bringing joy to one who views it...just before it falls from the tree. A perfect place, nothing more to add or take away. More That This I could feel at the time There was no way of knowing Fallen leaves in the night Who can say where they're blowing As free as the wind And hopefully learning Why the sea on the tide Has no way of turning More than this, there is nothing More than this, tell me one thing More than this, there is nothing It was fun for a while There was no way of knowing Like dream in the night Who can say where we're going No care in the world Maybe I'm learning Why the sea on the tide Has no way of turning More than this, you know there is nothing More than this, tell me one thing More than this, you know there is nothing More than this nothing More than this More than this nothing

This film is certainly on my top 5. To us lonely souls it is so relatable, when we think we've found that one other soul, only to realize it just the wrong time, place and space, but then the perfect moment happens, and it while it may only last a few seconds, it feels like an eternity.

This became our song after meeting in 1986 and going on a first coffee date. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, shy and scared, but she soon trusted my presence and her confidence grew. 48 years later, after much water flowing under the bridge, she still mesmerising me with her beauty and charm. Whenever we hear this song, inevitably, the hugs, kisses and memories come naturally ❤️

The magic of meeting someone new that you instantly connect with physically and emotionally. You spend years in love, sharing your most intimate secrets that no one else knows, nor would understand. The message exchanges are endless, and late into the night when you are apart. The times together are mind blowing, but despite trying and risking everything we can't be together! It ends with everyone getting hurt! The memories will never fade, and I always think about you (TJ) and this song.

I love Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music and have for over 30 years. I also love Lost in Translation. The movie and the song work well together. First saw the movie in 2003 and I've spent hours of my life rewatching it every year since. In 2003 I felt like Charlotte did in the movie (a bit lost, sad, and alone) but now in 2020 I feel more like Bob (disappointed, unloved, alone). Rewatching this movie helps me escape momentarily from my real life. Thank you for posting the video.
