First technique is all about accuracy but not that much power. Second technique is more about power. He was in his prime that time so the accuracy was also good in his 2nd technique 3rd technique is equally good in both accuracy and power. Ronaldo knew his accuracy is declining in the 2nd technique so he changed it with the slower run up I prefer the 3rd technique. He didn't miss the single penalty since the world cup where he started the 3rd technique.

"Still the best penalty kicker in history" --------- Don't confuse "the most prolific" with "the best". He is VERY GOOD @ penalties because he wouldn't have WELL ABOVE the average over 180 penalty attempts otherwise, but that doesn't make him the best penalty taker. I'd consider Matt LeTissier (SP??) better because, in his whole career and with close to 50 penalty attempts, he missed ONE penalty.

better to have slower run up, and focus all attention on getting perfect contact with the ball, rather than trying to read or trick the GK. That'll only mess up your contact because your focus is on the GK, and not the ball. Common mistake. If you have perfect contact with power, doesn't matter if GK goes the right way, it is a goal.

i do believe the rule of pen's changed in the fact that you're either not able to slow down mid run-up or you're not allowed to stop on the run-up. I'm not exactly sure but I do believe there was a change like this.

He use his weak foot (planting it) to rais off the ball before he actually touch with his right foot and it means that he can put in far more power to the ball because it dooesn't need that amount of energy to raising the ball from the ground. It influences the keepers reactions, so they have less time to react Ronaldo's penalty.
