The recent lawsuit from a former producer on The Acolyte has brought a lot of attention to the struggling Star Wars show. Does anyone even want to see this thing, or is it just another pointless vanity project from a studio that has no idea what its doing?

It kills me that Kennedy's first act was to bin 30+ years of official lore in the form of books, comics and games from the Expanded Universe, and then - when everyone was complaining that the sequels were just weak retreads - had the gall to say, "Well, it's easy in the MCU because they've got all that source material to work from, but we didn't have any...".

The reason they didn’t use more of the EU or killed off the original cast so quickly is because they had to pay royalties if they did use them and Disney wanted to avoid paying more. That’s why galaxies edge is based off the new cast and not legacy cast. In the hubris Disney believed they could create better characters and stories than what was presented in the EU and save tons of money at the same time.

I think a lot of the issues came from Disney assuming that Kathleen Kennedy and her creative team actually knew what they were doing. The Star Wars franchise needed purpose, direction and a strong hand on the tiller to build on what had already been created. Instead we got 'The Force is Female' and modern day identity politics. It ruined the sequel trilogy and has poisoned virtually every other show that Lucas film has come up with. If you want to understand how much of a failure the Kennedy tenure has been just compare Lucasfilm to the Marvel studio.

Even if Disney wanted to sell Star Wars, who would buy it? It USED to be worth billions, but now it's a fixer-upper at best. The only way Disney would find a buyer would be at fire-sale prices that would make their investors furious. So they can't, even if they wanted to. Now, there will come a point where they HAVE to sell things because they're losing so much money that any cash is good. The question is whether they'll be wise enough to shop it around then or whether other predatory companies will just wait until Disney completely dies and loot it off Disney's corpse in bankruptcy court. It might still be tempting enough that someone might wish to pick it up and avoid the competition of the jackals at the end.

The males are more aggressive and independent while the females still stick close to their mother. To some that sounds like I'm giving more "positive" traits to the males but I'm not. Aggressive and independent behavior is sometimee stupid behavior. The females sticking close to their mother is the right idea if they want to remain safe. Neither is behaving in a "better" way; they're just different. Sci-fi and superheroes being guy things doesn't mean other people who aren't guys can't like them. I remember saving my proofs of purchase to get the action figure with 'firing rocket'. I waited weeks for that bad boy to arrive and finally it comes in a semi-crushed, flimsy carboard box and that the rocket was hard glued in to protect us kids from self harm. BIG build up, lame payoff. In hindsight though, if the rocket did fire I would have lost it the next day and the dog would have chewed it up as he did several other small toys.

I remember being a kid in the 90s riding around with my dad in his semi-truck. To pass the time my dad loved the Star Wars tapes. I got to listen to a version of Episodes VII, VIII, and IX that was magical. Those tapes with their lightsaber and other sound effects still stand far away above all other audiobooks in my mind. With that in my memory it was easy to watch Episode VII in the theater, sigh knowing that I was done with Disney Star Wars and walk away to never return. The way those tapes dealt with the climax of Episode IX would have been epic feed stock for a movie and a movie faithfully based on that Episode VII, VIII, and IX would have come close to 8 figure box offices and the merch would be flying off the shelves for decades and the Galactic Cruiser would be a raving success.

Should have done a thrawn trilogy with Luke han and leia all sharing the screen. Use those to pass the torch to Jacen, Jaina and anakin solo. Gives you a 9 movie arc covering the empire. The Courtship of Princess Leia. Probably the single best book-to-movie-SW conversion target i can think of- it's got so much variety of cool stuff in it! They even put some of it in one of the SW video games i believe (witches of Dathomir?). There's Rancor that are so big they show the one in RotJ is only a small juvenile. There's the Hapan Empire with their gorgeous people (Decendants of pirates) and cool battleships. The whole thing where Han goes deep into the underworld to find a high stakes card game where he can win riches (title or planet or something to compete with the Hapan Prince who might marry Leia instead of him). Luke and the witches do a bunch of 'cool Force stuff'. At the planet Dathomir, where most of the story takes place, there's imperial blockade and garrison on ground (because even the Emperor was afraid of these witches, one of them in particular), so we have a fixed badguy along with drama among the 3rd party Witches. For the first time in any media i have ever seen or read, Luke actually does something that makes him deserve the name Skywalker in this novel... it's awesome iirc!

It was really a go nowhere season, it should´ve been a season of Boba networking with Bounty hunters and businesses and attempting to regain back his reputation after his humiliating time in Sarlac Pitt and his time serving the Empire, this was actually something they tried to bring into the show with Cad Bane mentioning Boba´s bad rep in his debut episode and subsequent fight and defeat, but it came too Fing late in the show, if we had it established early that Cad works with Spice Traders and has higher Rep than Boba so locals dont trust Boba to take over Jabba´s crime lord business, so Boba would´ve to work his way up to the kind of Rep he used to had to build up a more legit biz, I could´ve stomached him becoming a bit more soft (but still a bounty biz focused business lord). He could´ve became like Giorno Giovanna trying to get the drugs out of Tattoine, but still claiming it as his own in the end of the show, thats what it should´ve always been about.

The sad thing is that NOW if you look at 'Star Wars' as a NINE Film 'saga', they've essentially made Luke into a POINTLESS CHARACTER! When I was a kid, Luke was a 'Galactic Hero' who was responsible for Destroying TWO Deathstars, Killing the Emperor, Killing/Saving Darth Vader, and was unequivocally responsible for ABSOLUTELY defeating the EVIL Empire & Saving the entire Galaxy for the 'good guys'. NOW: All Luke did was help blow up 2 Deathstars, which only TEMPORARILY delayed the destruction of planets eventually blown up by Starkiller Base anyway, killed 1 CLONE of the Emperor, and only maybe managed to temporarily DELAY the empire for a few years while they regrouped with Snoke/Kylo, leading to REY actually being the hero of the story... Luke didn't even agree to help TRAIN Rey, who ended up being trained by Leiah. So over the 9 movies, Luke is essentially pointless? @@Bjork4s Lucas didn't sell his company because of salty fans. If that was the reason, he would have sold it a decade earlier. He sold his company because he was getting older, fed up with regulations when he wanted to expand, and his kids didn't want to take over Lucasfilm. This whole narrative that "toxic fandom" weighed down on Lucas is complete and utter BS. He was aware of the haters, but he didn't care. There is only one way to save Star Wars. Here goes: At the end of Jedi, the heroes are celebrating with the Ewoks. Eating, dancing and drinking with the little furry bastards. Little do they know, what they're drinking is a VERY potent hallucinogenic drug, kind of an Endor version of ayahuasca. Everything since then has been a very bad trip. Jar-Jar, Rey, Luke drinking green tiddy juice, all of it never happened. Start over. They wake up hung over on Endor, heads pounding, and look at each other like "WTF just happened? Thank The Force none of it was real!" and move on from there. Use CGI and deep fake tech for the actors and make the movies that should have been made. I see no other way to redeem the franchise I grew up with. Until then, Star Wars will remain a trilogy in my mind. May The Force Be With You.

Of the whole lineup of Star Wars shows that were shown off, the Acolyte looked the most interesting to me. A story focusing on Sith characters and the Dark Side? Cool! Perhaps we get the POV of a character discovering their Force-sensitivity (like Luke) who is taught by the hidden Sith Lord during the time of the Galactic Republic, and we’d learn the Sith’s views on the Force and why they think an Empire is better than a Republic.

There exists a series of well written, much beloved games from a mostly unexplored time in the Star Wars lore. This series has a wide cast of characters from different species, backgrounds, and motivations who all rally around a common goal. It has mystery, mature themes and its been waiting for a film or TV show adaptation. I am of course referring to Knights of the Old Republic. How does Disney keep green lighting piles of crap but not even give KOTOR a look?

The one thing that changed my mind about the Prequel Trilogy is when I was reading/watching about Lucas's history before Star Wars. Lucas was an experimental film maker (such as with THX 1138) whose movie became a blockbuster. We came to the Prequels thinking we are going to see more blockbusters, but Lucas was making experimental movies based on the Star Wars "universe" he created. That is why the Prequels, when taken as a whole, are so much better than the Sequels. He had the money to make the movie he wanted to make along his vison and he did it - for better or worse. As bad as they may have been in some places, the Prequels had heart and came from a vision. Disney's vision was not to tell a good story but to make money.

@festo Jango Fett was the template for the Clone Army. Boba Fett was an unaltered clone of Jango that Jango recieved for giving his DNA for cloning. One reason they might not have know is that the army was needed immediately and the Republic didn't have time to make a new army using someone else as a basis for the clones. Another reason might have been that the Clone Troopers were not a direct clone because modifications were made by the Kaminoins (such as sped up aging) and they didn't think the clones would go against them. It turned out they were wrong but might be a reason.

IANAL, but I am a CPA and contracts are big part of business law and passing the CPA exam. Non-real-estate contracts don't have to be written. They can be verbal and must possess four elements -- an offer, consideration (you get/give something), acceptance and a meeting of the minds (everyone understands the scope of the deal). Those are the key elements. The rest was merely paperwork to formalize the contract.

I've been a long-time Star Wars fan. The absolute garbage that Disney has been producing has almost completely killed any enthusiasm I had for this once-great franchise. The sequels ranged from "meh" (TFA) to horrible (TLJ) to Stupid (TRoS). "Rogue One" was OK, but mostly because of the Darth Vader scene at the end. "Solo" was a disaster. "THE book of Boba Fett" fucked up my favorite character (Fett), which really pissed me off. I didn't bother watching any of the other shows as a result, which judging by their reviews was a good move. "The Mandalorian" has been the lone bright spot, and Disney is already screwing that up. The best case scenario is that Disney sells Lucasfilm, and someone who understands Star Wars gets to run it. They'd toss out pretty much everything Disney had done, reinstate the EU as canon, and adapt the Thrawn trilogy as the canon sequels. Worst case scenario is Disney keeps Lucasfilm and keeps making garbage that no one cares about.

Lawyer here. You don't have to have a "signed contract," as in a single document with signatures at the bottom. If there's an offer and acceptance then you have an enforceable contract and a series of emails and texts would be more than sufficient to prove 1) there's an agreement, and 2) the agreement contains reciprocal promises (of pay, services, etc.). Under the common law doctrine called the statute of frauds only contracts of more than one year, more than $500 in goods, or conveyances of interests in land need be in writing. but again, a series of emails, etc., constitutes "writing." Given she filed her case so quickly (rather than trying to settle beforehand), she probably knows she has a fairly easy winner. And even if she can't quite prove all the elements of a contract, such as the exact amount of pay promised, under the doctrine of "detrimental reliance," she can ask for what she would have been paid under the other contract with Apple, the one she wouldn't have foregone except for Disney's promises.

I think you were under selling how much lore Lucas came up with. Before the first movie had its first draft he had written multiple versions of the story and come up with a catalog of character names and planets. He spent around three or four years doing all of the work before they even started shooting the movie.

Seconded. Lucas might not be able to write dialogue for his life, but a world creator he certainly is. He would dabble with such matters as how the Tusken, never using water for anything, would clean themselves. Lucas is right there with Tolkien in this, in manner if not in capacity; mulling over minuscule matters that don't seem to fit the larger picture, however insignificant for an outsider - things that no one would probably question them about. I venture the reason for this is that for these kind of guys, these places of their imagination are as just real as their own physical reality. Tolkien even had a term for this, which he called _subcreation._ That's why their worlds feel like living things.

The problem is, none of the stories being told are adding to the overall Star Wars story, they are detracting from it. Tales of the Jedi and the Seige of Mandalore are the exceptions because they captured the essence of Star Wars and added to the overall story in a compelling way. The rest just exist to sell subscriptions and that's not a good enough reason alone to make Star Wars content.

Connors deosn't know what he's talking about. If she's suing in California or New York, and can prove that she had other offers she turned down, then this is a lost wages suit and LucasFilm is gonna pay out the nose. For lost wages you don't need a written contract. An email or even a verbal agreement will suffice. This is not some whiney writer who undersold his screenplay or some actor who's agent low-balled. This is someone who was promised work and showed up to work and didn't get paid while presumably turning down other offers. These kinds of suits typically have strong legal standing.

I want LUKE SKYWALKER to finish his story and respectfully hand his torch to a new generation of Jedi. After that I want a story of how the Jedi struggle to maintain balance in the galaxy. How about a schism in the Jedi that causes at least a breif civil war over the direction of the New Republic? No dark Jedi, just an actual phylosiphal disagreement where both sides can be sympathized with. I love the Jedi but clearly, Disney doesn't.

It’s disingenuous for McCarty to level the notion that she had a choice of two job offers, and the world is now against her, she chose Lucas Films over Apple TV, that was her choice, I am almost positive she chose Lucas Film over Apple TV because she knew of Kathleen Kennedys demise at the studio, McCarthy had come with a tremendous amount of experience, knowing she would be a worthy successor to fill that role. Unfortunately at Lucas Film, there are probably one two many executive producers all scrabbling around for new projects in the Star Wars domain, (Pretty much that’s all they have right now) with Bob Igor back in control at Disney, implementing cost savings, many more heads will role, with a valuation of $4.5 Billion Lucas Films needs to be overhauled, turn a profit or it will go bankrupt very soon.
