Welcome to Post-Rock. This is their most climactic song, probably. I was a little worried with all the suggestions for it because it is probably best placed within context of the album. It's from the album "( )", which contains 8 tracks where I've read the first four were intended to be happy/optimistic and the latter 4 are darker/melancholic. My pick would've been Saeglopur but there were so many for Untitled 8 I didn't bother to put my thoughts in. Glad you liked it anyway. They almost always end their live sets with this song. Listen to their other albums. They are "post-rock" but that is quite a reductive way of describing them - they kinda do their own thing that no one can quite touch.

The band that will always maintain the status of favorite band ever

Sigur Ros' music is so beautiful and full of hope. I fell in love with them when I heard their album Ágaetis byrjun and especially track Starálfur. But their track Hoppípolla is definitely one of those tracks that almost bring tears of joy in my eyes. Those piano and violin melodies with Jonsi's vocals just hit the spot.

Love this song! Fun fact: even though most of Sigur Ros music is in Icelandic, this album is sung completely in a made up “nonsense” language they called hopelandic. So the lyrics actually don’t mean anything, which in a way makes it more beautiful and open to interpretation I think. Edit: I see you touched on this yourself in the post discussion, good to hear your thoughts!

A couple of fun facts about this song. The vocals are indeed pure gibberish, the band calls it "hopelandic" (or vonleska in icelandic), a combination of hope and icelandic. This whole album has no real lyrics, the concept was using voice completely as an instrument and conveying emotion purely through it. It even came with a set of blank pages for the listener to write, draw or do whatever they feel was the concept set to the music. The kind of whale song sound the guitar makes a lot of times is because it is being played with a cello bow by singer Jónsi. Great reaction and I love your interpretation about it being an spirit that can't move on. I think one of the reasons people suggested this and Gong it's because they both are some of the most "rhythmic" tracks by them. A personal favourite by them that it's completely different to this is Olsen Olsen. I'd suggest checking Godspeed You! Black Emperor for other unique sounding music.

Been listening Sigur ros since their () album. They come and go like waves and are present on my most dark moments but also on my highs. Seen them live twice and it has been the most incredible experience of my life. The atmosphere at their gigs is unique, their able to create hypnotic mellow and enraging feelings that spread throughout the audience like nobody else. It’s like watching an artist creating the most magnificent masterpiece in the deepest dark part of its soul. There are some live performance videos here on KZfaq, I suggest that you watch them when you’re on your own.

Welcome to Sigur Ros. Glad I had a hand in introducing them to you. This is one of their "heavier" songs. Most of their stuff is very laid back and ethereal. They were on constant rotation during tour for me and my band because sometimes you just need a break from metal. People have pointed out that this song is in the "Hopelandic" language, but I'd like to point that the whole album is done this way for a reason. Also, something other have not pointed out is that in the CD pamphlet (remember those?) The pages are all blank as Jonsi wanted people to write in the lyrics the felt fit best. Its also the reason the album has no real name, and why all the songs are "Untitled". Gong next? That one is ok, but I'd still love to here "Hoppipolla" l, and my personal favorite, "Agaetis Byjurn".

This is such a great album. They're so emotive in every aspect. They also have one of the best live DVDs ever.

Sigur Ros is in my top 5 bucket-list bands. They're just such... An experience. Super cool seeing a music lover hear them for the first time.

The whole purpose of the ( ) album as a whole is to make your own interpretations of the songs. There are no song titles, no lyrics, no liner notes. The songs will take on different meanings depending on your mood. Untitled 1 could be a happy song if you’re happy... a sad song if you’re feeling sad. It’s a brilliant album all around, and one of my favorites to listen to in the winter... my interpretation of the album art is very winter-like. Check out the rest of the record if you haven’t already!

The sound in the mix that seems a bit like whale song is Jonsi bowing an electric guitar with a cello bow. Arguably their "hit" song is svefn-g-englar which was used in the soundtrack for "Vanilla Sky" and helped put the band on the map in the US (that and the fact that about the time "Kid A" came out, Radiohead was telling everybody how much they loved Sigur Ros). I'm fond of "Saeglopur", also. If you want a classical interpretation of a Sigur Ros song, the Kronos Quartet does a mean version of "flugufrelsarinn". Also, I recommend the "Hvarf-Heim" album, where they kind of do "unplugged" versions of their songs that are just lovely. Also, Jonsi has a solo career. My favorite song of all time. Saw it live 4 times, I'm hoping I can see it a lot more. For everyone that really loves this song and never had the opportunity to watch it and listen live, if you have that opportunity, don't think twice.

Extremely visceral response is right on. What a song! And to hear it at the end of the ( ) album, whoa. This weird tension builds slowly through the whole album even in the more calmer songs, and it's wonderful to follow through. I love your interpretation of it with the "wanting more" feeling. For me, it's sometimes almost celebratory, like a dark explosion or roar about life and its tragedies. Beside Gong, Saeglopur also a good choice for further discovery, or Ny Batteri, Brennisteinn, E-bow (Untitled 6), Hrafntinna (the whole Kveikur and Takk... album probably)... also watch the live version of this one from the Heima DVD. Had the pleasure to hear it live too.... its... something special. There were tears! I think most of their stuff is brighter and lighter, although melancholy is sort of often there.

The closest thing I’ve had to an out of body experience was hearing this song live. They close their concerts with it.

Kudos to those recommending you these tracks! Sigur Ros changes lives. Seeing them in person while they toured for this album was an amazing experience, it was like I had a therapeutic breakthrough at that concert without even starting in that mindset. I hope (in Hopelandic, harhar) that you give some more air time to this band in the coming months.

I was out for a run the other day and this song came on, the ending half where it really starts picking up really makes you start to get your adrenaline going and you almost feel like you’re being chased by something and you just have to sprint as fast as you can. Intense song for sure

As a music lover (i know one when i see one :)) ), you have a a lot of pleasures to uncover from them :). Also, their videos are great, really, short films (they also have the space, since their tracks are long). They are known for ”slow buildup”, yeah. Which sucks you in, as you said, emotions simmering boiling and then exploding out of you. And the genius about it is that there are no ”words”. They also call it ”Hopelandic”. Man, it's been so long since I've listened to Sigur Ros. Think I first heard them around 2002 when () came out. Completely fell in love with them, and while I listened to the subsequent albums I feel like I haven't revisited them enough. Watching this reaction reminds me of why I fell in love with them to begin with. Can't think of another band that makes more beautifully melancholic music. Alcest come close in a different genre, or perhaps Cocteau Twins (though they're not as sad). One interesting thing about the Cocteau Twins comparison is that both bands are fond of nonsense lyrics. A funny fact is that the alternative title of this song ("popplagio") literally means "pop song." Awesome interpretation too. That's precisely what the band wanted by writing lyrics without meaning. Ágætis byrjun, (), and Takk... are all worth hearing in their entirety.

I've watched their concerts 3 times. Two times in Singapore, once in Indonesia. The experience of watching their concert the first time was very-very magical. When they started playing this song as the ending song, it started to rain a little. While the music builds up getting faster and louder, the rain gets heavier to the end of the song. When the song finished, the rain suddenly stopped.

I love this band. If you want your head blown and heart flayed listen to hjartað hamast. It's a truly unique song. I've no idea what instruments are used and maybe it would be something that interests you but it's like something that starts to swell in your gut and spreads throughout the body.

Best concert I’ve ever been to.

I feel like this band has been a long time coming on this channel. This album, Agaetis Byrjun, and Takk are really really good. Their whole catalogue is filled with songs that are insanely emotional whether it's melancholy or joy. You will cry. It's definitely music you need to be in the mood to listen to and not really something you can put on and jam out to in the car or while working out though. I feel like this band and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are my two pinnacle bands for this genre of music (avant garde experimental post-rock whatever you want to call it). GSY!BE is transcendent music and can't wait to see them reacted to on this channel at some point.

This is kind of a timely video, cuz you just did Skálmöld song recently, which was actually how I was introduced to this band lol. They covered a song called "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur". I honestly think it was kind of a tongue-in-cheek cover, cuz Skálmöld's main vocalist voice is SO rough & harsh and Jonsi's is absurdly soft, airy & smooth on the ears lmao. But yeah, I would recommend that song in the future (original, not the cover obviously lol). That or this other song called Glósóli. It's got a similar vibe to this song, but more uplifiting & inspiring. His voice hits some pretty high notes in that song. I've seen this band referred to as Dream Pop online. I'd say the first song I mentioned fits the pop description; it sounds like a better version of something out of a commercial for antidepressants... Or yogurt, or something. Whereas the other song, Glósóli is much closer to that "dreamy" sound. They're both great songs, though lol. Must-do's imo. Edit: Also, I saw somebody mention Raubtier in the comments, that'd be a pretty interesting band to check out. They're kind of like... Industrial-ish Metal, I guess? Similar to Rammstein, but heavier (usually). Lemme see if I can sell you on them: occasional pop-sounding euro synths, extremely low-tuned guitars (talkin' like A or G), lots of songs about tanks and a vocalist that sounds like Joakim from Sabaton mixed with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Or, if you've ever watched Fairly Oddparents, he sounds like Jorgen Von Strangles lol. I'd say listen to Huvudjägarsång (good luck pronouncing that), Lebensgafahr or Vittring.

This makes me thing of 'the last days of spring' - Noah and the Whale - which I think I may have previously commented on. If not, I'm getting a similar feel to another Sigur Ros track you reacted to, that I listened to whilst on a tram to Manchester... Nice that you still got viceral responses back here :) Sad that you don't seem to get these any-more or that the other songs haven't got you there... Perhaps it's like ASMR immunity? Damn your mike setup is so much better now, as there's quite a lot of background noise and pops... you've really honed your art :) So... Do the lyrics have no meaning even though they aren't directly translatable? I'd propose that you can still interpret and translate the gibberish somewhat... In the same way some instrumentals are translatable. :)

Every Sigur Ros song is a journey. And often inward. Just don't listen while driving. It has the power to lull you into driving right off a cliff. Top 5 band.

The reason the album and all the songs are untitled is to allow the listener to interpret the sounds and meanings of the songs within their own experience. I remember reading the album was originally provided with a notepad to write your thoughts about each song! Love the band, very different from most things out there the moment. Try Ny Batterai for another aural experience.

This is their best song, but you should have watched their live version from Heima, it's outstanding. You might get into the build up more seeing it live as well, the atmosphere is amazing.

Great commentary about the song, it was always difficult to me to put words to what this song feels like.

I've heard that the Bracket album has a lyrics booklet, with empty pages. The intention of the made up language in this album is to have you interpret what is being said, and write your own lyrics that connect with you personally through your experience with the music. Please react to Sigur Ros - hjartað hamast (bamm bamm bamm). It's a little different from what you've heard, but it's still a very powerful experience.

The band said in a interview this album ( ) was made so the listeners put their meaning into it. They wanted each track to tell it's own story to their listeners, though jonsi the singer is gay and back then struggled with his family and father accepting this and he had his heart broken due to this so maybe that'd what its about. But sigur ros has a song about that also in their agaestis bydrum album ill link you the song.

The gibberish lyrics as a concept reminds me of The National. Their lyrics aren't meant to mean anything, I suppose to allow you to interpret as you want, but it does take away something from a song too.
