A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

I'm not a religious / spiritual person by any means, but seeing Sigur Ros live is what I'd consider a profound spiritual experience. Nothing could have been more perfect, and I could not have been any more content and captivated in that moment. My expectations were so astronomically high going to see them for the first time that I was afraid they could only disappoint, and they managed to blow even my wildest dreams out of the water. Their live video's are fantastic, but can never capture the atmosphere of actually being there, it really is something else.

Been to a few Sigur Rós concerts and this song is always their last song. Remember first time I saw them perform this song, I was just emotionally paralyzed, exhausted and overwhelmed, because they left everything they had on the stage. Still the best band I have seen live. Thanks for this reaction.

I could't agree more. The way this train lets you enjoy the surrounding space and sound and then starts to speed up with every verse until it is seemingly our of control is just supernatural! When I heard it live for the first time I just closed my eyes and embarked on this journey. It was so hypnotic to me that I opened my eyes only after the end ot the song. I felt exhausted and fulfilled. Truly amazing and unrepeatable experience.

"Whoa," indeed. 👍 The slow-build of this track is incredible. Quite a few overlooked or underrated gems from this particular album, actually. Sigur Ros's music is pure emotion to me, perhaps in part because I cannot understand any of the lyrics. But the tones, the compositions, the production... it draws me in, envelops and overwhelms me. An amazing band.

a phenomenal end to a phenomenal album. every track off this lp is killer. no artist sonically creates spaces as grand as sigur ros. as you say, the space in the music is huge, such slow tempos allow the music to breathe, and the whole experience feels organic. nice one for letting the track run. their songs are journeys and to interrupt would be detrimental.

This song is crazy live, especially towards the end, they go all out; I love the fact the world tour 2022 has been starting with Vaka (Untitled #1) playing almost every song in the brackets album and finishing on this song, the end of that album. Almost as if they ‘Bracketed’ their concerts.

( ), on of my all time favorite albums. they lyrics are his made up language called Hopelandic, meant to express pure emotion. Seen them live multiple times and never disappoints. One way Jonsi creates a unique effect with his voice live is that he will actually sing (loudly) thru the pickup on his guitar.

I suggest you see Heima, a Sigur Ros documentary if you want to see them perform live. About seeing them live, I only saw them 4 times and I say only because it's really too few times in my opinion. There is no other band that can make me feel what this band does. It's not a concert, it's an experience out of this world. And I must add something very important. The sound clarity of this band live is simply incredible, everything sounds correct. It's very sad that they are not making live concerts anymore for a few years but I really hope they come back. I really really suggest that, for everyone that likes this song and others by Sigur Ros, if you have the opportunity to see them in concert, just go!

I've watched their concerts 3 times. Two times in Singapore, once in Indonesia. The experience of watching their concert the first time was very-very magical. When they started playing this song as the ending song, it started to rain a little. While the music builds up getting faster and louder, the rain gets heavier and heavier to the end of the song. When the song finished, the rain suddenly stopped.

I saw them perform this, and the rast of ( ) along with earlier stuff. It was in 2002, at The State Theater in Detroit Michigan. It was Winter time, and their performance was literally breath-taking. Their performance was enthralling; like nothing else I'd ever heard. Tears welled up in my eyes, nearly sober, and it was just undeniable. They are truly the real deal, no bullshit. I remember walking out after the show, outside there was a snow blizzard, walking back to my car - and I looked back down the road as their bus drove up, and past me and my two friends - I waved goodbye, and that was it. A beautiful ghost in the cold wintry mist gone, until perhaps, another night. That show is one of the most powerful live music performances I have ever witnessed, and I've seen much live music in my time so far.

This "Untitled #8" is from the album ( ) from 2002. Yes, its name is parentheses separated by a space. None of the eight tunes have names. None of them have lyrics in any language, the singer Jónsi singing is meaningless (?) syllables the band calls "Hopelandic". The first four tracks are supposed to be somewhat happier than the last four. The songs have code names, though... this one is called "Popplagið" ('pop song', which it really isn't). This Untitled #8 is the final song of their live sets. It's epic. I really like live versions of most Sigur Rós's songs more than the album versions. If you'd like to, please check out Untitled #7 (Dauðalagið, 'death song'), which is pretty heavy stuff emotionally. For example, in Reykjavík, Iceland in 2017 (an audience recording, starting with loud applause, not the best audio but still I like it) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j69gl86elc6tpYk.html To be honest, perhaps anything from the Heima (from 2007) music film would be a good idea. Then there's the whole concert "Sigur Rós live from the Walt Disney Concert Hall" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJNyndt01dPcnaM.html

Funnily, the band's nickname for this song is "Popplagið" that means "Pop Song". Even if the songs on the album have no title, like the album itself "( )", the band has a nickname for each song.

Hi Mr Wolfe Firstly thank you for reacting to this song. I really 🖤 seeing the reaction on peoples faces when they first hear this incredible song. Ok Sigur Ros third album ( ) (aka the untitled album) was released in 2002. It is an album of two halves , four pieces of music each "side" Untitled 8 is the track that has closed very Sigur Ros live show since 2002. I first got to see the band at a really small venue in the North of England in a town called Sheffield at a place called the leadmill. I have never heard an audience be entirely silent during a bands performance!! It was an amazing experience. I have since seen then 18 times! Along with LOW , GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR & Cocteau Twins. Sigur Ros are my all-time favorite live band. At the time ( ) was released the band were Jonsi - vocals, e- bow , guitar, keyboards , percussion Georg - bass backin vocals , keyboards, percussion Kjertan - guitars , keyboards , percussion Orri - drums , keyboards etc etc Their most recent album was keikur in 2013. They have released other music since then , but mostly compilations on limited 12' vinyl releases. I would recommend Dean Debois' excellent the tour documentary film , Heima which will give you a superb over view of Sigur Ros in live performance. As it ranges from tiny acoustic shows , through to a massive outdoor performance of untitled 8. I would also highly recommend , watching the video of the live performance of Jonsi's track Grow Till Tall , which is as incredible live as untitled 8 , IMHO. Thanks again Take care HappiGoth

Not always a lot going on composition wise with Sigur Ros, but they more than make up for it with all their delicate dynamics and textures. I love zoning out to them when i'm in a melancholy or introspective mood. Even remind me of Swans at times.

@Annoying Elitist yeah they're like totally opposite and most people wouldn't know what i mean... but they have a similar kind of approach i guess. Big building soundscapes... Sigur Ros are more ethereal and up in the clouds... Swans are inside a volcano. Geological is how i'd look at these groups.
