Thanks for the feedback, mine was the photo that had owner and an employee. Now coming to the photo, it was shoot at the last village in India-China border where the population 90 people, so taking an image with customers is definitely a great idea, but unfortunately there were no customers. So i tried posing them in a more natural way rather than making it look artificial. Thank you, loved your ideas.

Thank you for the feedback for the cabinet maker photo! Yes, there is a strobe behind the window to highlight the scene and emphasize the smoke. Also inside it had a fill light on the upper left of the scene angled 45 degrees down.

Hello guys, I took the picture of the guy under the cactus so here is the story. I´m a 18 years old photographer and I´ve had the opportunity to meet incredible people like this far shepherd who lives with his mother and sister surrounded by hills and cactuses. He has spent all his life breeding goats and chickens living only with what the earth gives and even though he knows that there are so many eases in the city he would never leave his lifestyle and precious land. Thanks for the comments about the picture!

The picture of a homeless man has a much deeper story than you realize. The wording of his signs (Hebrew) is showing that he is a holocaust survivor. The blur of everyone around him is showing how they are all walking past him ignoring him as they go on with their day. Not that fstoppers is to blame what so ever since I'm sure you guys simply just don't understand Hebrew. The sad part of this image is seeing how someone who has already gone through so much (the holocaust) is now living on the street. I can see this shot being for an editorial piece as well as street photography, for someone who understands the language of his posters, it is a strong image for both. If you do not understand the text in the image then I can see how someone would see it as a fairly average image, however in a jewish newspaper/magazine or one in Israel I think it is an extremely powerful and well done image. PS this is not my image. Just thought I would give an insight into the image for those wondering.

Perhaps this is American cynicism because of our awful panhandler culture, but no one is peer reviewing these signs. Every single panhandler in the US seems to be a disabled veteran.

I'm sorry if I too appear to be very cynical but he'd have to be at the very least in his 80's to be a holocaust survivor. Is he ? I'm afraid he doesn't to me but I apologise profusely if I'm mistaken.

I don't understand why part of the critique is what they wished the story was. Like they wish the guy was more successful and don't like that it looks like times as tough... That's life though. And capturing things how they are is environmental photography, or so I thought

Realizing this is an old comment - but you're completely right about many of their critiques as I'm just watching a lot of these videos now. The guy on the left especially tends to make very very classist remarks constantly. If a photo features an older person, a poor person, a normal person - he is likely to dislike the photo. But if the photo features a pro model or someone who looks wealthy he is very likely to say that he likes the photo. His own photo was horrible with an atrocious photoshop edit, but he still says it is good 15 years later. That's ego, my friend. It becomes even more apparent when later in the video he is commenting on the photo of the man in the woods and says, "This is a guy who could be an explorer and he's got money" instead of commenting on the lighting or the technique in any way. He actively dismisses the lighting technique as trivial, "oh they figured out the flashlight lighting trick." This is a man who consistently showcases his personal biases of how he view other human beings over and over in these videos.

I think from the drawing and the proud expression on her face the picture has a good vibe! The abstract object's only enforce the idea she's a architect. And the black space complice with the clean look from her type of work, also pulls the focus on her as well. (Talking about the last picture) Oh and the live crop in is a welcome addition !

As a cityscape and landscape photographer, I shot a lot from the tops of mountains. From the tops of mountains I almost exclusively shoot with a 70-200 f4, because everything is so far away. The next mountain is like 5km away, so not only do I need a long lens but also good weather.

At 29:10- I like the lighting. And the fence is important, but a little less of it. I'd crop just a little off the right but not too much. Just move the subject to about 1/3 from the right.

At 6:09: The lights are well done in context with the dark scene. Their being i the middle is OK, as they seem to light the scene. But there are other lights. They give a sense of place, placing the subject in a specific location. But they do seem to become the subject of the photo. Maybe that was the photographer's intent.

At 46:00 If you'd spent a lot of time in the Southwest with the people who live there, this photo would fit. It's a portrait of a type, not an individual. The only thing that hit me wrong was at first glance it looked like a photo of a commercial fisherman or sailor in the middle of a desert. There is some discord there. But overall, the photographer understands the people and the environment.

And if you’re really taking in the image you can clearly see his apron. Not to mention it’s kind of obvious that they are located in the middle of no where. It’s not a place that’s in decline / not successful, simply scraping by and making do with what’s available. You get that from the character of the floor.

Actually I really liked that shot. Her face was a little hot (burn in post?) and the concrete post was definitely an issue but impossible to PP out with the wording behind it. Maybe framing it with the intention of being able to crop it out later would have given you a better image. Regardless nice work.

At 17:00- Mama is happy. But it is over exposed. She needs to be reduced at 1/2 stop, and the background could be 1 full stop darker without losing the detail and context. Context to environment is important, but it should be secondary and not compete with the subject for attention.

How are homeless people not suppose to be as quoted from a photo, "a generic homeless person?" You built a youtube empire called Fstoppers and you critique homeless-ness above the surface of critiquing the content of the photo itself with increase stigma. The reason why you labeled the subject as "Oh another homeless person" is because, like you demonstrated; they are under stigma. This critique is why so many today are calling them "Invisible People."

The penultimate photo of the whole bunch of environmental shots is very different from the others in that it looks like a good cenamatic shot. But it looks like some kind of done forcefully, lacking natural mingling of the elements around the picture. The man seems to have posed and he hasn't got the feel for willingness to what he is doing and the suggestion of movement is too static as if the man has nothing to do with a big torch in his hand and he will be much relieved once the photoshoot was over. The fog seems real and I think it really is because the fog is everywhere in the picture and the wet looks in the shrubs, me thinks, leaves me doubtless about the reality of the fog. The background is a little too overexposed and I can't give the image more than three points.
