Mike should have compared the Critters to the Tribble. Everyone thought the Tribbles were cute little creatures but it's revealed in DS9 that they were deemed mortal enemies of the Klingon Empire because they were an ecological plague that eats all the food wherever they go and that the Klingons sent a fleet of ships to hunt them down and destroy their homeworld.

After rewatching this review i remembered how you brought the Don Opper and Barry Opper relationship up. It is quite interesting. Don pretty much started Barry's career as Barry started Don's career. Back in 82 Don wrote and starred in the movie Android. A movie George Lucas praised back in the day. When his opinion still meant something. Don got his brother Barry to produce the movie. It was his first producer credit. Barry became quite a successful producer. And when they did Critters he brought his brother back. I kinda like the dynamic.

Scott Grimes played one of the main roles on the TV series: ER for several years. At first his character was kind of a joke, but he grew on me, and became pretty emotionally deep by the end, i feel. Always thought he deserved more work than he got.

I just ordered the Critters DVD boxset haha. So thanks for this re:View - I love it! If it isnt on your radar then please consider a re:View for another underrated 80's sci-fi classic - "My Science Project". Its got a gizmo, a goat, endless quotable lines, a great soundtrack, Fisher Stevens and the ending is a surprise origin for Dennis Hopper's Easy Rider character.... haha.

Critters is great, I love the idea of intergalactic bounty hunters perusing little homicidal aliens who escaped from space jail. The critters growing every time they eat can easily turn this wacky dark comedy into a horror movie movie. I would love to see Critters reboot hit the big screen, there is so much potential for an awesome series. The reboot should first take place on earth, and in the sequel it'd be interesting to see critters run wild in a sleazy intergalactic space habitat, after they escape during transport to a maximum security space jail. This time the threat is more serious because its a confined environment and the more the critters eat the larger they become until eventually combining together to form mega-critter, who is eventually subdued and exiled on a barren planet, only for the Xiliens to rescue mega-critter for a later cross over with Godzilla in an epic battle for earth.

This film planted the seed of my love affair with horror films when at the age of 6 a family friend loaned it to my mother for us to watch and told her it was a kids movie full of cute little creatures. Ma walked in just as the cop gets dragged under the car and freaked out. If only she'd been a few minutes earlier, she could have saved my soul

I remember renting Aliens, and my father turned the box around to show Ellen in the power loader face to face with the alien queen....and asked, "are you sure you want to see this?"....I had nightmares about chestbursters for years, but that is hands down my favorite movie of all time. Thank you Blockbuster. I saw Critters at a friend's house soon after and it became a close second. Then I saw Tremors (based on VHS box art)...The best three sci-fi movies ever.
