Yes I live in dubrovnik my whole life and this past 7 years its been a nightmare to live in it During winter it would take 5 minutes to go and buy groceries in the old town but during summer, 30 minutes at minimum its awful And to one that said its bringing income to the city You need to know that people actually live in the city that city is not theme park that you can scream and shout as you like it during middle of the night. I had many sleepless night and the worst thing is you need to go to work that morning so tired and serve those guest with an smile on your face. If i could i would move out of there asap and everyone you ask that lives there, they would say the same

Kikaxe Me too i hate to go to music school all the way from lapad with tourists on the bus I think that there should be a bus for people from Dubrovnik and a bus for tourists and a way for citizens who are late to work in the old city (like my mom) that there is a separate way to pass like a tourist part of the city and a work, school and important business part of town

It’s so sad that the locals are moving out of the city center. It reminds me of Venice, just a tourist attraction that may be beautiful but feels more like a theme park than a real town.

Next half only about 15minutes as tourist hordes started to get in from other city wall gate. I was pushed around. Wasnt a pleasant experience. I guess that was the best I could do.

Many Croatians are complaining about tourists and tourism but they have absolutely no problem ripping off every single person that sets a foot in Dubrovnik. Soon tourists will have to pay for breathing the "game of thrones air".. I have met few locals who managed to save and build a house by working 3-4 months in a calendar year... Millions of tourists flock Thailand all year round and yet Thai people are smiling and welcoming as this is their main and probably only major income!

Not sure what solution there is to this, but this is a recurring problem with high visibility travel destinations : The locals move out. A city is its people. No people, no city. Then, its little different than Disneyland - it looks nice and tourists come in droves but nobody would live there ; they just come to work or look around.

The problem is that all the guide books point to the old city as the focal point. There are many beautiful things to see in the Neretva-Dubrovnik County. Most tourists for example don't even visit the Lokrum Nature Reserve, or Mount Srdj Fortifications... Instead they end up paying for example to see the Synagogue (& its badly stocked museum of replicas, reproductions & outright fakes)... and yet some of the wall murials & paintings found in older churches right outside the city walls are probably the most authentic... They just don't know.

Dubrovnik was everyone's but it was never a croatian city... Thanks to Tito it became croatian. The shepherd loves his sheep the most, doesn't he?

So many of my friends are getting moved out of their homes so the tourists visiting Split can move into their homes. The Digital Nomads/expats move in, the locals move out =(

This video confirms my innate dislike of holidays. My last one was a two night trip about 12 years ago. I couldn't wait to get home. I feel sorry for the residents of places like this. There is a belief that tourism brings money in, as stated by one of the tourists, but that money rarely impacts on the majority of residents, who do not own shops and bars, etc.. In most places many of the staff in hotels, bars and restaurants are outsiders, there for the season, often foreign students. Stratford-upon-Avon was the place that I used to go to do my shopping, but it became impossible as the ordinary day to day shops were replaced by tourist traps. The out of town shops are like every other out of town site, and traffic is appalling. I no longer shop there. The same happens it places like Dubrovnik, people move out because of the crowds, the lack of shops for day to day living, and the lack of facilities. However, I also feel sorry for the tourists who are falling for the lure of these places. They arrive at a place, are herded like cattle, see only things above head height, and are ripped off in every bar, restaurant and cafe they enter. "Ah, but the memories they have" you might say. Well friends of mine who have travelled to many countries have admitted that they get confused between different places they've visited, and have often said that they did not see very much because of the crowds. So not many memories there. I shall continue to enjoy my home, with, perhaps the odd day trip (though it's almost 2 years since I was more than 20 miles from home). If I want to see a place, I've got KZfaq, and now I can also say I'm doing my bit to save these sites from destruction by over tourism....
