hi!! im a brand new crocheter and im just wondering what you mean/how you did? i'm really struggling with arm width rn so any help would be appreciated

⁠​⁠@@jacque9929 I’m a very new crocheter too. What I did was make two rectangles where the height is from the bottom of the top to where I want the armhole to start & width is the distance between the front and back of the top when I put it on my body. Then connected the two sides of the rectangle to the front and back side by seaming them together. This creates space for the armhole! Sorry if the explanation is confusing & lemme know if you have any questions!

it also depends on the type of yarn used and how tight or loose your tension is as to how wide to make it, but yes, always measure so that you have a baseline just in case. since i make doll clothes, i am always putting it on the doll as i go because most of my stuff i make is pattern-less.

I started it and then got to the 30 minute mark where you said you made it too small…. Mine is now too small 😭 maybe include that in the beginning before others also make the same mistake along with you 🤣

you should never follow a clothing crochet pattern to a tee, you need to measure yourself multiple times during each step to ensure it fits you, that’s not on her gurl 💀

for me I went to where my shoulders started instead of entire length of my shoulders. Hope that helps!

@jadeharley8640 when the pit starts for me. going pit to pit, comfortably, like it's not stretching to reach pit to pit. I actually just finished everything but the sleeves and as I beginner I gotta say it looks pretty good! I hope this is helpful! sorry if not

It depends on the yarn, I always had to chain less because my panel came out so big. You should try to chain little more than your shoulder length (without stretching the chain, you might be stretching it when you put it against your shoulders and so you think you need only 36 but for the right width of the top there should be more) was this the issue?

The measurements in the video are for a small/medium sized top and she did 56 chains for the foundation. If you're using a similar weight yarn and hook size, 36 chains is probably way too short in the first place. 😅 If that's not the issue, are you adding a chain between each DC? If you're skipping that step, it may make the length of your panel shorter.

i followed her pattern exactly and i’d say its a small/ extra small ! ❤

i always have a fabric tape measure and use myself to judge how much I need to add/remove to make it fit me! yarn does give a little bit of stretch (depending on the type) so make sure to account for that when measuring for a top!

i made mine to how she did in the video and mine crosses over a bit.. you can either make the tie strings longer to that you can wrap it around the backside and tie it, or completely stitch the front two panels ontop of each other and not do the straps at all! if you do this, be sure to leave plenty of room to be able to get it on/off, and if you feel it is too loose, look into elastic thread to add into the bottom! hope this helps!

Hi there! I have a few different suggestions about what you can do now. The first one would be to stick with the recommended hook size for your yarn and just make more stitches until you meet the length you need. The second would be to just stick with the hook recommendation in the video (that will lead to bigger “holes” between the stitches). The third option would be to choose a hook that's something in between. So for your case, I would guess 3mm or 3,5mm perhaps (that will also lead to bigger “holes” between the stitches but they won't be as big). The last thing I can think of would be to take multiple strands of the same yarn and basically crochet with them at the same time so the yarn would be thicker but that would take a lot of yarn. Choose what will work best for you ❤. Btw I'm also doing this project with a slightly thinner yarn (a 3,5mm hook is recommended) and I’ll most likely use a 4mm hook but I’m not fully decided yet. I hope I could help you at least a bit ❤️.

Also for the amount of yarn you’ll need, you can try to google it or somehow calculate the gauge but to be honest I don't know that too well I always just guess it. But if you look at the description of the video you can see that she used 700 yards of yarn so for you it could be like 3x that but I’m not too sure.
