This video tutorial shows how I made my 3 crochet caregiver sensory twiddle activity muffs for charity. These wonderful crochet twiddle muffs help keep hands warm, busy, and have a calming effect for dementia and Alzheimer patients. I have also heard that they may be good for children with autism. These are really great some of the people I seen when my grandmother was in a residential home were rocking and very agitated these muffs can sooth them it's quite remarkable to see. They have something to take their mind off something for that minute then it seems to divert their attention . Some scratch at themselves or others they really do work . My son had ADHD so thinking how he was helped me make mine . A lovely tutorial thank you !

Just made my first one from a pattern someone sent me. I wish I had looked at the video first. Now I have much more ideas of what to do. I think now looking at it I tried to be too precise. Now I am going to have another go and search through my boxes of bits and pieces. Thank you for the video..

HelenMay Crochet I jus shared this video on Facebook &asked others to share and get involved in this, so hoping others will take initiative and at least share if not help crochet or knit some up. I reay feel these could make a world of difference to people in need. Even jus to brighten theyre day bcuz alot dont have family pr any1 to visit them. Thank you again and God bless. I also noted in my post for them to be aware of copyright laws and not claiming this is theres by redoing a video. Im hoping I did the right things? I jus wanna help people as best I can without taking away from others.

Absolutely! Thank you for sharing! I am not the first to come up with these cuties. I first learned about them in a charity crochet/knit group. They are very welcome at the VA hospitals for distribution. Our hospital tells our DAR group they could use 90 a month for out and in patients. Thank you for more ideas. Penny from NC

As the mother of an autistic son, I would agree that twiddle muffs would be great sensory toys for autistic children. If one is being made for a specific person, one can incorporate colors/textures/items in line with the recipient's interests, while avoiding their sensory aversions. The LYS I shop at is sponsoring a twiddle muff drive for local nursing homes, so I'm gathering scrap yarns and embellishments from stash to crochet a twiddle muff.

I should have at least a WIP pic on my Ravelry project page for this today or tomorrow. The crocheting is going very quickly thus far, so I expect to have this done sometime this week (although I won't be able to drop it off at the LYS until Mother's Day weekend).
