I'm back with another crochet haul and review. This time I came across crochet gadgets that I have never seen before. Secret yarn cutters? Kaleidoscopes for yarns? Yup, we are going to find out if all these crochet craft supplies are worth it. I spend my money so you don't have to!

Just a friendly hint - to use the needle gauge for metal crochet hooks, you insert the end opposite the hook into the hole. That end and the shaft are the same size. Stitches are formed on the shaft not the hook. Also, crochet hook sizes are all over the place, there's no standardization between sizes. Use the size you get from the gauge not the size printed on the hook. Happy stitching!

Lol, I did too!!!! I was rolling yarn into a ball that was all tangled when waiting for my husband at his physical therapy appointment and I dropped ball of yarn and I said "Oh No, my ball is rolling away and the receptionist died laughing and a man waiting said I'm not saying nothing and laughed 😂.

The Clover pendant has been around for years. I know Joann's has them for about that price. It says Japan because Clover is a Japanese Company.

I've had mine (it was on a key ring, not a pendant) since the late 80s. You should be aware they have not been allowed on airplane because they're an "exposed blade."

Historically these have been around for centuries. Tailors have been credited with creating them. I have my doubts. Women used them while sewing/embroidering

Pendant cutters became extremely popular after 9/11 for anyone traveling and it's also handy to be able to wear it instead of digging for it in the notions bag. Colorscope is interesting and pretty cool. My grandma taught me to grab the yarn, squint to blend and add a good contrast - keep mixing it up til the yarn sings lol. Old school but it works :)

"Balls!!" Love it. It is "skane" though. I looked it up last week when I was irritated by a lady's comments. That clover cutter has been around a long time. I think that kaleidoscope was a gimmick to sell them, but i love it too. You could chill in a chair and scope out your yarn wall with it. Child like fun!

I have a scope. I love that thing. It truly really helps when you just don't know which colors to pick to go together. I have been eyeing one of those pendant yarn cutters. I can never keep scissors in my project bags.

In Australia, the female security guard know what these are & will take them off you as they can be flipped off and there is a blade. So in order to keep it, the owner needs to flip open carefully with a small screwdriver and then superglue it down on both sides 😃😃 I hope this helps

You get a small screwdriver & carefully wedge between the two outer shell of the pendant. And open it up with extreme care as there is a round blade inside. Then superglue it down with the outer shell put back in place. I hope this helps 😊😊

TSA (at lease in the US) allow scissor blades up to 4 inches. I've never had a problem and I fly 6-10 RT's per year.

I LOVE my clover yarn cutting thing! And one of the best part is that you can have it with you on places where you normally can't have a scissor with you, like an airplane! (but check with the company you are flying with first, it can be different rules from different companies and in different countries!) Unfortunately it is easy to lose, but they are pretty cheap so if you are like me and loses small things like this, you can buy another one 😄 And another thing, they cut hair like butter 😂

Maybe I’m really spoiled but knitters pride hooks are my all time favorites. Nice and pointy, super smooth. They sell the swifts at hobby lobby, which are really cheap and awesome. They’re solid birch and come in really small sizes as well as MASSIVE sizes, up to 15mm. They’re shaped like Susan Bates but BETTER, even smoother and pointier at the tip.

The clover yarn cutter is great for travelling. Most airlines will not allow scissors so the clover cutter is perfect.

Sierra Nicole I also have Prime and I went to Amazon to order a color scope. It told me it would be shipped in two days once it was shipped from Cottage Mills which could be up to Nov 25th. I deleted the order.

I wonder if any toy kaleidoscope like that would work. It seems like it's just a creative use for a toy that's been around for a while, but the tiny size does mean that it's much more convenient to keep in a crochet kit than the big cardboard tubes that they usually are!

I have had one of those pendant cutters for about 25 years and never knew what it was until just now. When my hubby's grandmother passed away I, as the only crocheter left, inherited all of her tools of the trade. This was in there and I've just always thought it was pretty and kept it in the box of Grandma's hooks, etc. Now that I know, I will be putting it on a chain and wearing it while crocheting!! Thanks! 😃

This is a tip learned a long time ago to match yarn colors. Find a multi-colored that you like use it to find the solid colors that match.

I have one of the yarn cutters and works great because there is a razor blade inside. Be aware that they are banned on airlines and will get taken from you and tossed (you can put in check in bag). I heard that the outside can be broken off which exposes the razor blade.

For everyone having problems with choosing color you can buy a painters color wheel or look at paint chip samples in hardware/section of the store. Another way is to look at nature.

I love my clover yarn cutter pendant from Joanne's. I think yours is more for floss or thread...the one i have has wider & fewer slots. I thought I was the only one strange enough to buy the colorscope lol...i found it a fun novelty. There is a tool for quilters too. I bought that elephant hook sizer too and had the same thoughts, I recently purchased some antique victorian bone hooks that didn't have sizes on them. Ended up having to buy a different sizer to get the right sizes.

Great reviews! I love clover hooks best but in non-ergonomic type I only like Susan Bates. Boye has a pointier tip to dig into tight spots but the pointy hook seems to split yarn and the shallow hook part drops yarn. Susan B is rounded and smooth so no splitting and the deeper hook doesn't let yarn drop. I see the clover thread cutter at Hobby Lobby every time I go. I think it's near the embroidery thread if anyone wants to go get one. I MUST have the kaleidoscope thing! I never pick good color combos and it seems like that might be the fix! Thank you for showing these items; that was fun!

There is a very easy way to pick colors. Go to a fabric store and look for a fabric that you LOVE the colors of, Not the pattern. Just the colors‼😍 There you go. You have your colors😊 💜💙💚💛🧡❤

I bought that set of crochet hooks from Amazon 3 years ago, and I’m still so impressed! I use them almost every day! The sizes are there to make everything from size 30 thread doilies to chunky yarn scarves and blankets.

I have the Clover pendant cutter too! Beaders and all thread and yarn crafters use them! I think I've had mine for at least 7 years. I love the kaleidoscope Teleidoscope! That would come in handy for making complex polymer clay canes as well!

I really enjoyed your review. On the hook sizer, the problem is probably the needles. When a well-known company has seconds they sell them to distributors who sell them at a steep discount. The needles you used, are probably a well-known brand's second so the sizing is probably off. If you look at the sizer, you can see that the sizing looks to be accurate.

For the clover charm yarn cutter, my mom put hers on a keychain and kept it with her when she's unable to have scissors with her at all time, so instead it's always on her or in her purse on a keychain!

Oh yeaaaah I’ve had my clover pendant cutter for 15 or so years now. I love it for convenience and airplanes. Perfect for planes! I hung mine on a length of yarn and either wear it or clip it to my accessories bag (pencil bag) in my knit/crochet bag. Omg i need that magic color tube!!!

I've used the Clover Cutter to cut embroidery floss when it wasn't convenient to have scissors. It does a great job with that.

Quilters have known of the Kaleidoscope for years on a bigger scale then a pen . They help you select colours to match in fabric and yarn. I have had a clover yarn/thread cutter for years and would advise any one who does a lot of air travel to get one of these . Better then a pair of scissor's that can be confiscated . Well done Littlejohn bringing these items to light . Great work :) 5 balls . Kudos

I love my pendant cutter. I keep mine on a lanyard. I also have my small retractable measuring tape on my lanyard. I aaallsssoo have a couples of clasps that I keep my stitch label and markers on annnd a clasp where I have a tapestry needle... so I put it around my neck or hanging next to me if I need it.
