Oh my Lord Thank You so much for teaching me this skill. Now I can mix my hat colors for the different teams my family and friends have, I can also use lots of my leftover yarns. Love this method! I’ve been making vertical hats (that’s what I call them, but they are just ribbed) in chunky yarns for charity. I love the idea of being able to change colors that go around, yet still are made vertically! So funny, though. Yesterday was the first time I made a chain and changed colors (making a drawstring) and now today you have that technique in this hat! Thank you! Going to make some for sure!

hi! this is so so helpful! what would i do if i didn’t want that big of a color block difference in the hat? if i wanted more of a 50/50 color appearance with the brim, would i just make the color change sooner in the chain?

I'm working with #4 yarn and a 5 mm hook. Instead of stitch numbers, can you please give measurements (for example, something like 7" instead of 25 stitches) for each of the sizes. (Love this hat)

I don't have a 3 weight yarn, but I have a 4 weight yarn. Could I use that.? What adjustments do I need to make?

I'm actually going to be working this pattern up in a worsted weight 4 yarn soon so stay tuned! You might be able to get away with using your 4 weight yarn with it's recommended hook size and following the stitch counts for one size smaller than you'd make for this pattern in the 3 weight yarn. Luckily this stitch pattern is really stretchy so it would probably work!
