Here are the final mods that i have done to my two pistols and carbine, i have finally gotten to the point where i am very happy with the results of each of the air guns and each one has its unique features that differ from the other. please if you have any questions or comments i will be happy to answer them thanks again and shootemfulloholes!!!
STUFF DONE TO AIR PISTOLS:
1377 AMERICAN CLASSIC:added longer 22 cal barrel, 22 cal rimfire casing mod in sear spring, lighter sear-spring, air stripper, power adjuster, elongated breech probe, added small o-ring from lighter on transfer port for better seal, steel breech, polished hammer, flat piston and valve (both brass),ported valve and enlarged valve for more air capacity, replaced rolling pin with steel pin with c clips, changed bolts and added split washer to each bolt, added felt to bottom of pump tube, painted camo, added scope.
2289 BACKPACKER: put 22 rimfire casing in sear spring, elongated breech probe, steel breech, air stripper, polished hammer, replaced rolling pin with steel pin with c clips, flat delrin piston flat aluminum valve, ported valve, replaced bolts with SS hex bolts with split washer, added felt to pump tube, painted camo, added scope, made camo wrap with cargo pockets for stock.
2240 CO2 AIRPISTOL: added longer 177 cal barrel, ported valve, heavy hammer spring and power adjuster, muzzle break, polished hammer, softer valve spring, softer sear spring with 22 rimfire casing in spring, also changed screws to hex type with split washer.

you will bind the hammer spring when changing out the breach. pull it longer on the end the screw Go through makes the hammer hit harder. and makes the valve dump better.i love modding crosmans !

Good vid! You are right, Skenko pellets rock! I shot some R.W.S. High Velocity which are the same plastic jacketed design and they hit very hard! They blow through cans without a problem and even 2-3mm into a 2x4! better than any other. That's measuring from the back of the pellet too, so it goes deep into a 2x4! That's from under 10 yards, 10 pumps unmodified with a 2289G. Thank's for letting me know I can go to 15!

the Skenco's are a harder pellet so they penetrate much better. i will get some ofthe RWS to try those for a bit, have you done any mods to the valve and piston or the breech bolt probe?

shootemfulloholes Nope, not yet. I just got the gun a week ago and have been watching vids and doing minor mods of my own to stiffen up the barrel. I want a piston and valve kit which I can get for $35 so I will buy it rather than make it cause it looks hard. Lol. As for the bolt probe I want to do that one and it looks quite easy. Not and extended bolt though. I want to just shave the bolt for a smaller diameter and better airflow. Less restriction. Those Skenko's ricochet like a S.O.B. eh? Lol. Watch yourself.

Well. I did the bolt probe mod cause it was easy and free. Took it down to half it's original diameter which is what the guy on KZfaq recommended (not to make it too thin or it would not retain it's durability) and so far I'm impressed. It does create less restriction and allows more air to get behind the pellet. I did this by making a "poor man's lathe" by putting the bolt into my drill, laying the drill on it's side, setting drill trigger in the "locked on" position and spinning at slow to medium speed (handsfree! so I can hold the drill in place) and held the file against the bolt probe till I got enough material ground off. Nice and even all the way around! Much better than filing by hand and neater. Finished it off with some fine sandpaper. Worked beautifully! I must have some decent gains because pellets that were not quite making it through both sides of an Allens Apple Juice can the last time (stock) are punching holes clean through it at the same distance now. So, the guy was right, no need for an extended bolt probe. One ricocheted so hard it came back and almost hit me! Lol! Also tried more than 10 pumps as you said and you are right, you do get more speed and impact. It seems like 13 -14 pumps is the ideal however. at 15 it does not seem to get any better, actually worse. I've heard that before about crosman's that 13 is the magic number and it seems to be true. Maybe it's dumping pumps at 15, I dunno. Thank's again for the suggestion, cause those extra 3-4 pumps do make a huge difference!. Now I want the BIG upgrade. Hehehe. The piston and valve upgrade. I'm hooked. Lol! I heard this too, that it's an addiction. Not a bad little gun this 2289G. Oh, and I also did the felt mod. Wow, that makes pumping much quieter!

awesome, now with the same drill technique( probe in drill and a pair of pliers holding the bit) you can use a very small drill bit and drill a hole in the center of the probe make sure the bit is small enough to leave enough material on the probe for the the rubber o ring and try to do your best to make it dead center about a 1/4 inch deep then put a piece of wire in the drill and file the diameter down so you can press fit it in to the hole you made in the center of the probe, after it is press fitted cut it down slowly with a pair of wire cutters, measure carefully u do not want it too short it needs to push the pellet skirt past the transfer port then carefully sand sharp edges smooth and now you have an elongated bolt probe this should give u more fps!! if it all goes down the drain, u can buy one ready made from Mellonair!! if you have any question i would be glad to help with anything. these things are crazy addictive!!

MrBilld75 oh and sorry i forgot to mention, u said that maybe no need for extended bolt probe, well now there is less metal taking up the space but the pellet is over the transfer port hole i am confident that you will have even more gain with the pellet being pushed past the transfer port hole with an extended probe. the trick of it all is to get the most gain with a standard of 10 pumps!!!

Great video bro! I am planning to put a flattop piston and valve into my 2289. Ide like to get the ported air port and maybe the other more effective mods as far as increasing FPS goes... Can you give me a general idea of what the Piston/Valve mod (flat tops) did for the 2289 ? Like whats the average in FPS increase the flat top mods gave the gun? I have a 14.5 .22 barrel on mine. And a steel breech, other then that its pretty much stock. Ide like to know if the mod is really worth the extra fps, or if I should just save the $60 or more to put twords a more powerful/better gun? Thanks!

Van Calloway sorry missed your comment hope its not too late!! well most of the mods are easy the flat top piston is probably one of the more pricey ones, i personally think you should do all the other mods first to get the most out of the gun. also a longer barrel will give you a significant boost in fps.

Nice video, I enjoy a 1740 setup as well. I firmly believe with all the appropriate shot placement it can outshoot the .22 cal, for most hunting applications. When a handgun would be useful (squirrels, rabbits, doves, etc.) the flat trajectory of the .177, coupled with a hard sight system is ideal inside 15 yards. Great video, try Predator Polymags in .177 if you want the full potential of this setup, I never went back. One question where did you get the hex screws you mentioned in your 1740 setup description, I've been wanting to do this for something myself but didn't know where to get the parts. Cheers!

Cool thanks for the comment, the 1740 has now been converted back to a 2240 but with a 18 inch barrel and a HI-PACK so I can use a hand pump to put pressure in it. The hex screws I got from an ACE hardware store.

.177 is going to have half the energy to gain 100fps... Longer range in .177? Not.
@Shootemfulloholes
@Shootemfulloholes 9 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but I did not understand the question?
@trondyne
@trondyne 9 жыл бұрын
shootemfulloholes No question.... You said the .177 has more range...better for hunting... Given the same platform a .22 is going to have nearly double the energy and much greater energy retained.... The FASTER pellet has FAR less energy and even less downrange...do the math.. This is because of the AREA of the pellet being larger in .22 has more area to transfer energy too... The trajectory will be flatter for .177 through it's range but will have half the energy and much less effective range than a .22 given the same platform or gun...
@Shootemfulloholes
@Shootemfulloholes 9 жыл бұрын
Well its a bit of a dilemma, using a 10g pellet in 177 or a 14g pellet in 22 and yes typically the 22 demonstrates better energy retention at a longer range but also slower velocity and less penetration due to the size of the pellet and in my opinion the drop chart is excessive past 30 yards so between the two calibers shooting upto 30y I personally like the 177 for the model 2240. But if I put on a longer barrel, a stock and a scope well now we have a very nice set up for the 22 caliber and much better velocity and penetration from the longer barrel. That's what makes it fun we can all build one the way we like it!!!
@trondyne
@trondyne 9 жыл бұрын
shootemfulloholes Well now that's a heavy .177 vs a standard .22 ... The velocity will be much lower than a standard .177 .. Given a standard 8g vs 14g pellets in .177 vs .22 there will be about a 15% increase in velocity for almost a 50% loss in energy... If you want better penetration with the .22 which will have more energy then I'd suggest using a pointed hunting pellet... I bet it will give you better penetration in any case vs the .177
@trondyne
@trondyne 9 жыл бұрын
Trondyne The real issue to me is that the larger pellet will always be more efficient....because of energy transfer area... Other things like weight can be adjusted by choice of pellet.. I personally have no use for .177s ... The only benefit I can see for me would be more shots for a PCP....vs larger pellets...
