This is Part 1 of an in depth review of Cosman's new 2240XL. An upgraded version of the ultra-popular 2240 .22 caliber CO2 Pistol. This model incorporates a number of popular custom features including a steel breech and bolt. Unique to the 2240XL is the new 1-20 threaded muzzle with included thread protector. (4K)

On the day I received my 1st one, I ordered my second one and I just ordered my third. I use the Buck Rail moderator. It's inexpensive and works quite well. I replaced the funky sear spring with the one from airgun parts UK and their Grav Mag 9 magazine .upgrade with the polished, thicker sear arm,hammer spring adjuster and larger transfer port. Yes there's more. The next one will also get a Crosman 10 in. Barrel and a Williams blade sight, Yup same as the 2300s (got one) and the front muzzle break front sight from Alliance Hobby. Obviously I love them. They are addictive. Shoot great out of the box and some elbow grease and your choice of accessories, one can do many tasks well. From making it sing to hanging bling this is a fab gun! My only concern is the lousy screws used. Yeah replaced with better. For under $120 this is one heck of a deal. Al, I want to thank you for the great videos you do. Happy Plinking!!!!!!!!

It is well designed, well built and so far is flawless. I bought my 2nd one after the first. Yeah they're worth it. More time shooting, way less loading. One xl has a reflex site and the other has a 9 x32 scope, both with high mounts, so I don't know if it will block the view. Also their sear spring adjuster is a solid piece of equipment. Heads above the Crosman oem brass adjuster. I just literally received my 3RD XL which will become a 2240xlS,silhouette target gun.10 inch barrel too. These are so much fun to build. I play your 2240 videos when I tinker with them as they keep me on course. Be well and Happy Plinking!

My 2240 blew giant holes thru the front and back with a 1.5 inch hole in the exit wound of a tomato can. I'm used regular pellets. I use 20 grain massive Hawk 22 caliber pointed now. For a single shot, the 2240 is a hoot. I highly recommend it.

@AlsAirguns
@AlsAirguns Жыл бұрын
This pistol can cause injury. Particularly to the eyes as well as minor wounds. But is probably not lethal. You must check the laws in your area regarding the legality of the pistol. In the U.S. there are no restrictions on it however in the UK it may require licensing or registration. As far as safe handling Crosman does include pretty good safety instructions in the booklet with the pistol. But it's best to have an experience shooter go over safe handling with you. There may also be video instruction available. After reading your question, I'm wondering it I should make a safety video available on this channel. If you're just looking to have fun and get started you probably want to start with something lest powerful and purchased locally to be certain your compliant and have a positive first experience. Thanks for the questions. I hope this helps. Be well, Al...

@@AlsAirguns thanks that was really helpful! I live in italy and our laws aren't really gun friendly (yes,even air gun). I'll probably buy a Crosman Vigilante to begin, less powerful and less loud. After the vigilante maybe I'll buy a 2240. Can I ask you how loud is the 2240? I have neighbors and I live in a small city center, so I don't really want my neighbour to call police on me ahah. Btw I would love a video about gun's safety! Or maybe a video about the maintenance of an air gun. Thank for your reply!

@AlsAirguns

Not really although at close range the it will shoot slightly high due to the sight being so high above the bore. This is the reason I'm trying low profile mounts an a different sight on the second pistol that you can see in the DIY Silencer video. I should have a review of that sight and mount published soon.

Is it safe to store this withg a fresh co2 cartidge installed ands the pistol pressurized? Will it damage the seals in any way?
@AlsAirguns
@AlsAirguns 10 ай бұрын
Actually it’s best for the seals to be stored pressurized. It’s also a good idea to put a drop of Crosman Pellgun oil (or lightweight machine oil) on the drop of a CO2 cartridge before piercing/installing it every so often. This will increase the lifespan of the seals too.

Not easily from what I can tell, it’s designed to be permanent. I’m looking into the possibility of converting standard barrels of various lengths to this configuration. But at this time you’ll need to use an adapter like the ones sold by DONNYFL.

I've used the Crosman CenterPoint MultiTac which is good and tall enough to see over most suppressors. I'd really like to try the CenterPoint 32mm Reflex Site (red/green dot) on my next 2240XL build. Almost anything UTG or Hawke makes is going to be good but a bit more expensive. You'll need a dovetail mount on the site. Most dot sites use weaver/picatinny style in which case you'll need an adapter. I use the UTG Dovetail to Weaver adapter a lot and have a review on it in the accessories playlist.

As far as I've seen, the threaded barrel is not a custom shop option at this time. Because of this for the 2300KT & 2400KT you will need to use and adapter like those sold by DonnyFL. Good luck & hopefully we'll see this barrel option added to the Custom Shop offerings.

I believe that's the problem. Try keeping the gun and CO2 cartridges inside somewhere warm & that will help. At 10C or 50F you're your loosing velocity due to the temp. Most testing of CO2 guns is done at 72F (22.2 degrees C). Where I live it'll get over 102F in the summer, you can get some great velocity readings at those temperatures. That's why I usually try to state the ambient temperature as part of performance testing for C02 guns.

@AlsAirguns
@AlsAirguns 3 жыл бұрын
It used to be that people tended to not see 460 fps with a standard weight pellet regardless of type (domed, wadcutter, hollow point) leading many ti assume that they were testing with a rather light pellet. With CO2 Pistols power and shot count are related. The higher the velocity, the lower the shot count. I've yet to see a 2240 that launches a 14 grain pellet ar 460 fps for 60 shots.

@@snakes111b one of the reasons it’s not feasible is a .22 Long Rifle bullet is a larger diameter than a .22 caliber pellet. The ..22lr bullet wound fit down the .22 pellet gun barrel. The bullet is too fat. People do use ram set blanks in .22lr from the hardware store to propel pellets out of single shot .22 cal firearms but that’s different. Gun calibers can be confusing. For instance a 44 magnum bullet is actually .429 caliber but that didn’t sound as cool. 😎

@AlsAirguns
@AlsAirguns 3 жыл бұрын
They are assuming you want the threaded barrel to support a can/suppressor. To do that on a regular 2240 you have to remove the front sight anyway. There is a fellow in the UK that makes iron sights designed to be used with a suppressor in place. I hope to demo one of those soon.

Calibrate your chrony bud. It ain't working. This gun is only rated at 460 FPS, and that is the unrealistically high manufacturer rating. In reality this airgun will shoot an average lead pellet 400 fps. Even power modded you won't get 500 fps typically. Is there any particular reason you DIDN'T mention why this gun was miraculously shooting over 100 FPS more than it should??? You seemed to mention everything else, even the box!
@AlsAirguns
@AlsAirguns 2 жыл бұрын
Actually I have two different Chrony's and they both agree. Real word data trumps conjecture brother. Yes, a stock 2240 is rated at 460 and the literature says the same for the 2240XL. However it much hotter, mainly due to the hammer spring that's being used. We used to modify 2240's this way for more power. Not only have I tested over two different shooting chrony's but, I also purchased a second pistol to test. And it produced similar results. Two different examples purchased months apart and shot over multiple chronographs showing the same data. That's why i feel confident in my results.

The XL has more power due to the steel breech and better barrel.
@AlsAirguns
@AlsAirguns 8 ай бұрын
I agree. I also suspect they may be using a slightly stiffer hammer spring given the shot count and the way she drops velocity at the end. I actually purchased and documented a second 2240XL to see if the first pistol was a fluke. It shot the same.
