The change in the life of notorious gang leader Nicky Cruz, as shown in the film, proved to be wonderfully lasting and real.
Although the original events depicted in this classic from the drug infested, gang dominated streets happened over thirty years ago, the life-changing solution that David Wilkerson brought to desperate lives was just beginning. The beat goes on. The change in the life of notorious gang leader Nicky Cruz, as shown in the film, proved to be wonderfully lasting and real. Nicky continues today to reach young people around the world with the same life-changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ that delivered him from violence and despair. And what about the skinny preacher, David Wilkerson, who braved the meanest streets of New York to tell desperate and drug crazed youth that there was a better way? Now, three decades later, his ministry based in Times Square that is still changing lives and offering genuine hope to countless souls who had given up on life. Now in over 25 languages, The Cross and the Switchblade, starring Pat Boone and Eric Estrada, is one of those rare films that has shown its unique power to connect with the deepest hopes and fears of youth around the world. It remains today one of the most compelling stories of love, grace and the truth that no one is ever so far gone that they cannot find the way out.
Director: Don Murray
Writers: Don Murray, James Bonnet
Starring: Pat Boone, Erik Estrada, Jacqueline Giroux

I've seen this movie I've seen the passion of the Christ I've seen an old old reel to reel film of one called "the burning hell" I have yet to see a movie made about hell hell itself. If people can produce movies like these I've mentioned, I know there are movie producers who can create a movie about hell. Hollywood, unbelievers and atheists won't like it because they don't want the Truth of their domain to be exposed.

I am a Christ follower, but I am not perfect, I know that I wasted my day today by not submitting to God with it. I repent for how things like fear that turned into anger and then the sin of hate got in the way of the love God calls me to. There are so many that need Jesus, we can't waste or time or be selfish and self-harming and entertain the darkness. Praying for you Alan. God loves you. This world is dark, we all need to follow the light and LIVE for him. Praise God that his mercies are new each day! From John 3- Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[c] 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[d] must be born again.’ 8 The wind[e] blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you[f] do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.[g] 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Read the book in my teens. Watched the movie in my early twenties, after I was born again in my thirties I wanted to make a trip to New York and meet David Wilkerson 😢, but he was in that crash and passed away before I could arrang it. I'm in my fifties now. Just talked with my youngest daughter about the impact the book, The Cross and the Switchblade, by David Wilkerson had on my life. What do ya know, its Friday, Jan 29th, 2021 and I'm crying as I just finished watching the movie on U tube, after it appeared in my feed. 😊 . I'll be in my sixties in a few more years and then, well tomorrow belongs to God. All I know is where I'm going when he says come hither. Whether I'm alive or sleeping in the earth I'll hear my bride grooms voice, Jesus my Lord and I hope for that day.

I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real it’s impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!

I read The Cross and the Switchblade as a kid. I saw the movie for the first time today. My sister was murdered in NYC, involved with the wrong sort, and I went to a psychic seeking information detectives failed to deliver. The revelation shook me so bad that I broke down in the middle of the street. A stranger walking by, saw me, and asked to pray for me. She came from Pastor David Wilkerson's church at Times Square and invited me to attend. I never took up the offer. Watching this movie reminded me of that offer again. I don't know if the church is still active with this pandemic going on, and I'm really saddened to learn the pastor has died already. It would have been an honor to meet him in person. I have been feeling the call to return to church for the longest time.

I am an 80 year old great grandma who was a "throw-away baby" from a broken wartime marriage. I suffered a lot of cruelty, neglect and all kinds of abuse my entire growimg up years. When I turned 16 I married a nice farm boy mostly to escape foster care. But we did love one another the best we knew how as dysfunctional teens . We had to grow up pretty fast as the war in Viet Nam was escalating & my husband enlistef in the military. In the next 6 years I had 3 babies and I loved being a mommy. I thought we were okay because we attended church regularly, were nice people, taught our little ones about God. But one day I discovered my husband had been having an affair. I was totally devastated & tried to kill myself. In the hospital, tied to my bed in a straight jacket, I heard an audible voice call my name very clearly.when I said who is it? Who's there? The voice said "your Father." I said "I don't have a father," Then He said in a voice that made me cry, "I AM your Father. I will NEVER leave you or forsake you" I knew then that I needed to actually give my kife to Jesus, not just go through the motions of going to church & saying "grace" at meals. That was 58 years ago, when I was 21. Have faced some more horrific trials in all those years but the Lord has ALWAYS kept His promises! I had the joy of meeting Tim Delena many years ago and I still love to hear him preach. NICKY, too!

The message of Christ is timeless... This movie may seem outdated now- over 50 years after its making. But it was innovative in its time and paved the way for so much good- organizations, groups working with teens etc. The story of Nicky Cruz has changed so many lives and led many to Christ... That is all that should matter, not focusing on "corniness" etc.

If God made you, and he did,( it's not the physical you, which is bought on by molecular circumstance) that is the " house" that you dwell in. But the real you. The you that will continue to live epochs after your house is dust. That's what he wants to save. Just take that first step. There's a song which I used to sing in church more than 55 years ago- which is as follows and I quote, " one step to the master, one step, and he'll answer. All I have to do is make one step, and he will do the rest..." He has already made the initial step, it's in your ballpark, now. God bless!

I read the book The Cross and the Switchblade, that’s how David Wilkerson got started at Times Square church in New York. I have followed David Wilkerson through his ministry . He has never backed down from preaching sin ! What a true man of God. Nicky Cruz is now a preacher too. We need more preachers like him , most preachers won’t preach sin because of fear of losing people out of their church, too many preachers preaching a prosperity gospel only to enrich themselves & not help others. But God is exposing them. Keep your eyes upon Jesus, always be ready for his return . Praise & thank him for everything & tell others about the glorious gospel of Jesus. Maranatha’ 🙌🏻
