Exactly how I did it in HS 47 years ago. It's kind of rare for me to see someone hook that near ankle now, but I always found it to be the best way of me to get that crossface cradle.

How do you finish the cradle if they dont step up when you grab the ankle?

Would you want to lock the other leg somehow to keep the opponent from kicking out? Also when do you release the anchor leg?

I just recently learned and confirmed that the knee in the side works better than locking the leg because it creates a wedge that limits range of motion. Give it a try. It's pretty nifty.
