We share how we drove across Canada from Waterloo, Ontario to Hope, BC in mid to late October without paying a cent for campgrounds. We show the driving conditions, where we camped for free every night, and share some of the lessons we learned along the way.
We hope that this video will be useful to anyone planning to RV across Canada in the fall/autumn. We did this trip as quickly as we could in an attempt to beat the winter weather in the Rocky Mountains that can occur in October.

Thank you for this! Although I won't retire for 3 years yet, I am planning on driving from BC to Newfoundland (and back) and living in my Jeep. I will be on a pretty tight budget so this information is perfect.

Nice! It's a long drive, but it was worth it to see our family. We only had a couple of issues (nearly running out of gas in northern Ontario and the snow storms in Calgary and Lake Louise).

It's definitely not the recommended speed to cross Canada to enjoy things. We spent two weeks heading east and even that was fast. Heading back west we needed to try to beat the weather in the mountains so went as fast as we could.

Hi nice trip would you mind saying how much in gas cost and avg. cost per litre. Planning similar trip with same type of set up Thanks
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam Жыл бұрын
Gas prices will fluctuate a lot, so before you leave just do a quick check on GasBuddy for prices across Canada. Use Google Maps to find out the total kilometres. Then just quickly multiply that by your L/100km fuel efficiency. That's what we do, and it's usually pretty spot on in terms of estimating.
@Sanjar-tt1xi
@Sanjar-tt1xi 4 ай бұрын
Can you pls help me understand how much extra fuel you use to tow a trailer? You showed 35 liters per 100 km. Does it mean if you drive 800km, you would need extra 20 litres per 100 km assuming average truck fuel efficiency is 15 litres/100km?
@HomeARoam
@HomeARoam 4 ай бұрын
A very good question, and it really depends on your engine and trailer size/weight. But for us, a good rule of thumb is that our fuel efficiency is basically cut in half when we're towing. Most recently, our range goes from 400mi/600km without the trailer down to as little as 200mi/300km when towing. That's for a 25gal/100L tank. Also keep in mind that prevailing wind makes a huge difference too. A decent tailwind can bump our towing range up to 250mi/400km.

Sorry you didn't find the video useful. We also pointed out untraditional places to boondock, but if you're in a hurry then big box parking lots are a good bet. It's true we could have summed up all the basic information quicker, but we wanted to give some more context.
