"settle into gratitude"...I love that. Im grateful to tag along. I was able to travel across country once...in 1986 when I graduated from college. I flew from Alabama to LA, California, then drove back home. One of the stops was the Grand Canyon, THERE ARE NO WORDS for the beauty! Pictures in no way does it justice, nor does hearing about it from others, it is something that you just have to experience for yourself. Ive not traveled back out west since then. Thanks again for allowing us to see this spectacular country through your eyes! Be safe! I'll be watching, and sharing!

Hello guys, nice to see the MOG is taking some mud, about cold start, I give up with the alcohol injector, In the snow as a sample it's starting but it smokes a few minutes and I will be honest, it's not so good for the engine even if this is a real solid engine, I'm using a webasto thermo top 7 kw installed on the cooling system and in 25 min it fits the engine 75 C degrees, it's running like in summer, 0 smokes, in the camping places if you are with more people to smokes during 2 minutes it's a bit embarrassing, enjoy your tour

Wow those mountains !!! Smart to use the hand throttle, I newer use the gas pedal to avoid damage on the engine when starting. I can recommend a diesel heater as well I was lucky mine had one when i bought it :)

The drone footage is a nice add. And - given your love of camping in the high desert, curious what you've done to protect the water system from freezing?
@OurWayToRoam
@OurWayToRoam 29 күн бұрын
The composite box is very well insulated. Been camped in as low as 9 degrees🥶 without freezing water system so far.

Very nice tour and shots of it. Savannah, you are a careful rider, ride more. It is obvious that you are good at it, and practice on easy terrain too. Practice makes perfect, especially off-road. You will only smile about your beginnings later when you know the vehicle well and what it is capable of. You probably know that from countless reports/films from other Unimog drivers. But experiencing/testing it all yourself is the adventure. Have fun in these magnificent landscapes.

Please do not go near the edge of the rocks at the Grand Canyon. I read that hundreds of tourists have died falling over the edge. When I was there, and we were only there for a few minutes, some guy stumbled and almost fell over the edge. So it must happen a lot.

@7:27 if that mog were mine I would install a hydronic heater to preheat the engine in cold climates. That and an oil pan heater.

I don't remember if you mentioned, but does the Unimog have AC or power steering? We did much of Route 66 on one of our trips, but there are places where it runs with or on I-40. Some stretches are quite well preserved, including one between Springfield, Missouri, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. There are some nice old time 50s era cafes along the way.
@OurWayToRoam
@OurWayToRoam 29 күн бұрын
Yes it does have power steering, but there is no AC. We may add an AC in the future as it gets pretty warm in the cab with all the windows. Yeah we’ve seen some of the old Route 66 over there years pretty cool to see. Must have been fun to travel those routes before the interstates were built.
@vonheise
@vonheise 28 күн бұрын
@@OurWayToRoam Actually, at 78, I predate the majority of the Interstates, and I would say no, it wasn't that much fun. The tourist traps and restaurants were fun, but you would average around 40 mph with all the small towns, and trying to pass people. It was worst in mountains or even hill country. You do miss a lot with the Interstates though. We watch for signs. We would have missed the Arizona Meteor Crater is not for the signs. New Mexico without hard wind, never saw that before.

I love to drive those roads in my RV. We use it as a base camp for off read exploring in our towed rock crawler / adventure rig we tow behind Barney! My RV has been on some pretty tough dirt back roads over tge last 30 years, but the farther back in I can get it, the better I like it. You guys are having the time of your lives. Here's to hoping every place makes an epic memory for both of you and the dogs. For the old guy who's been ven there, and planning to do more! You're going to want AC in a few months in Arizzzonna! When you get ready to put it in come to North Central Texas. (Rhome) My shop is yours. (3000 sqft ) hookups, dump station and fiber optic wifi.

Yeah getting further away usually makes for a better time which is why we got the mog. We pushed our van and bus down some roads over there years that we probably shouldn’t have haha. Nice to have the Mog to get out further wish less stress now. Thank you for the kind offer.

Why not make a window bed for the dogs you can clip in or out. For the car how about a set up like a bunk bed off back wall then they have their own bed
