I would love to see a comparison of this UAP-IW-HD to the nanoHD, especially in terms of range and signal distribution. I remember you said that a full test and comparison of the nanoHD was coming, after it's initial unboxing last year, but I don't see that in your videos. It seems that the UAP-IW-HD is in short supply. Since I need a solution this week, I will get a nanoHD, and if necessary, get the IW later. Keep up the good work! I am anxious to watch your Tesla videos, hopefully can do that soon!

i am in the same situation. would love to see the comparison. here is my situation. designing a new home. It is going to cost m e $166 to run an ethernet cable to the ceiling. two floor home and if i put two nano's then it will be $166 each. i could avoid this and plug and IW-HD to the many ethernet cables coming into my walls. Or i could do a combo. have one nano and then another IW-HD to my wall ethernet. I need to know what is the best solution that is cost effective. worst case if i have to run two ethernet cables to my ceilings for nano-HD i am fine but do i need that. it is a 3200 sqft open. Hello Chris, Thank you for your videos as they have been superb and I have greatly appreciated them. Just a quick question on UAP-IW-HD. Do you think there would be a p[roble to install the UAP-IW-HD horizontally and not vertical? Personally, I don’t think there would be any problem but thought to see what you opinion would be. Out wall plates here in Australia are typically horizontal and want to simply remove the single data outlet and replace it with the UAP-IW-HD, sideways (horizontal). If I mount it vertical, part of the existing cutout in the wall will be visible. Mounting sideways (horizontal) would fit perfectly. Many thanks, Philip

What is the point of having to activate the VLAN function first instead of being able to select it directly? Regarding the first PoE port...why can't Ubiquiti still allow devices via MAC and prevent unknown devices from being connected?
@Ancyker
@Ancyker 3 жыл бұрын
Because all you need to do is passively snoop the network for an allowed MAC and clone it to bypass that. Another way to get an allowed MAC address is to just read it off a device that's allowed. Let's say you run a hotel and there's a Roku/FireTV in the room. You can read the MAC off of the device, clone that MAC, now the network thinks that your device is that device. It's only providing protection from the most basic of users. It's not only simply not security, it provides a false sense of security generally making people otherwise more relaxed in other areas because they feel their network is secure when it is not.

If you're only wanting to use the 5ghz band, how much is it going to cut down on the signal coverage if you mount this behind a 65" TV, as opposed to placing it directly below the TV on the wall? Would obviously be a much cleaner install if it was mounted behind the TV, but don't want to sacrifice broadcasting a strong signal out.
@SeanCaldwellvo
@SeanCaldwellvo 3 жыл бұрын
It may cut the signal in half and lower your distance. If the AP is primarily to cover the room that the TV is in, it would be fine from my experience. When I tried behind the TV vs next to the TV with an AP, it cut the signal 3-5 dB.

@@vono360 I don't know if you're joking or what. (No idea of the prices cisco) I had clients that didnt want to use the new HD aps due to thee fact that they are twice the price of the ACs and the fact that Unifi APs are already not that cheap compared to consumer stuff. I had clients sayng that : "for 50 box i can get a full router with wifi AC in it why should i have to spent 100USD+ for only an AP?" Unfortunatly the cilient have the last word on the budget...

TuttoCrafting yes the new HD aps are expensive. But they are meant for very high density environments with many many clients. They are not designed nor should they be used for location with 10 clients. However, as far as overall prices go, you are getting something with ubiquiti that others (Cisco, HP, Arris) will charge you 10x more for. Granted they dont have all of the features but for 99% of small business or office environments, they offer everything needed.

Don't understand the relevance here - you can rip anything off the wall given the right tool(s). What does that prove - other than an ability to destroy things?

These packaging boxes are pretty wasteful and pretty annoying for the low voltage company. Don’t fold flat, plastic wrap, lots of wasted glossy retail ink and electricity in finishing. When you get 49 of these you end up with just as big of a box as it came in, which is like 3 full boxes. Lots of construction supers get annoyed that you are not breaking down boxes in cities like NYC. They foot the bill for those little dumpsters.
