That's one thing I realized,, Aziraphale was always forgave Crowly ( even though the second one was not necessary I think) 😢

He says I forgive you but what he really means is I love you

I think it’s all of it. Saying he forgives Crowley for not choosing to be together as angels, forgiving him for not knowing better than to express his emotions with a kiss, and I think a little bit he is saying the _I forgive you_ to himself as forgiving himself for choosing against crowley

I think your analysis is very interesting, I definitely didn’t think of it that way. I think it definitely could be that, but I’d interpreted it as Azi never knowing how to express his emotions, which he seems to think are very, very wrong, and instead forgiving Crowley any time he reciprocates them, if that makes sense. Azi knows he loves Crowley, but any time Crowley seems to reciprocate, its always too much, too fast. So instead, Azi shuts down, all the thoughts of heaven being good and hell being bad flowing through his head, and the only way he knows how to deal with “wrong” feelings is asking for and giving forgiveness, in the true Christian/catholic way. Of course, Crowley absolutely hates this. So yes, the forgiveness could be directed specifically at the kiss in the way you interpreted, but it could also be far more general, as it seems to be teh only way Azi can continue to feel virtuous and Good about his own feelings and actions. A bit forgiving Crowley, a bit guiltily forgiving himself.

@@lorelynn2822 That's brilliant. I've been wrestling with what the forgiveness was intended to cover. I do think the kiss was aggressive and Azi wasn't ready/able to respond -- usually with TV trope angry "I love you dammit" big kiss moments, the person on the receiving end is shocked at first then relaxes into it and reciprocates. But Azi *never* relaxes. He *starts* to, there is one moment where his hands come down on Crowley's back, but only very briefly, then they're back up in the air, and he is ACTIVELY crying when they release, which means he started crying DURING the kiss. He is incredibly confused and it was NOT romantic for him, it was not the cliche trope breakthrough, it was practically an assault. So in one sense, he was forgiving Crowley for assaulting him. But you make a really, really astute observation, about how his own feelings are so repressed that when Crowley openly reciprocates, he can't deal with it, shuts down, and forgives Crowley instead of opening up himself. That is really, really good.

I always found it interesting that Aziraphale would have considered kissing and physical affection to be a sin and selfish to cater to one's own desires because he has no issues with doing all those things in the other areas of life....he loves to eat, drink wine, loves his books, etc. I wonder how Gaiman will address it in S3.... praying it actually happens!

@@beezer81I'm not sure that he sees kissing/physical pleasure itself as a sin, but for him, because he's an angel who was created to serve humans/God, he might think it's a sin to go off on a life just concentrating on his and Crowley. Especially when he thinks he can alleviate suffering caused by heaven (making a difference). But you know, I've had the same thought about them not being interviewed in sexuality. Neil Gaiman has said (I'm paraphrasing) that these are two supernatural beings who are sexless and to whom sexual/physical love is kind of foreign concept. However, as you said, one theme of the series isthat they are becoming more human over time. So I wouldn't be surprised if they'd sampled this other human pleasure as they have many others.

It's been posted that we all need to rewatch S2 as much as possible to boost the numbers on Prime. The algorithm rates shows on number of views. So we need to watch it as often as possible and tell our friends to do the same.
