Hi there from England UK I have a pomchi and her back legs are collapsing , we took her to the vet, her back legs at the ball joints ( I think ) she said to think of a car with the rod that connects to the wheels . She said it's both that are crumbling , we are told to crate her and no going upstairs or jumping up. She's on a leash indoors untill we get a crate . I and my wife are so upset I would rather lose my own life than live without my dog . I'm disabled and have no extra money if she needs surgery , she snores and stretches her neck a lot which makes me worry about her trachea. She's about 8 or 9.

@@rab-cnesbit4181 Hi from New Zealand, I can so feel your pain! My elderly dog is also going through a painful time with a torn cruciate ligament & like you I too cannot afford surgery. It's so unfair that we have to endure this extremely heart wrenching pain when we can't even help our beloved pets! If I was a vet, I would do surgeries for free for those who cannot afford it. I could not stand by & let someones precious pet suffer, or worse be put to sleep for something so little as a leg injury. My local small town vet is terrible, it is the only one available within 100km & they know it, by over charging for every little thing! They even make prices up! It's disgusting, unethical & greedy! They have traumatised me to a point of uncontrollable crying & panic attacks, especially 2yrs ago when they refused my beautiful girl anymore pain meds & gave me no choice than to put her to sleep!! I suffer from PTSD & so something as devastating as losing a pet sends me into having suicidal thoughts. I am 50yrs old & will not be getting anymore pets again, not when I can't afford to help them in their time of need. The pain is just too terrible! I wish the vets on here would answer our questions, especially when we are suffering like this & just need some advice. If you are going to manage a professional KZfaq channel, then at least answer the important questions related to your profession! Anyway I just wanted to let you know that there's someone out there feeling exactly like you right now & my heart goes out to you & your beloved pet. God bless & I hope things work out for you both. 🐶🙏💜 PS: I thought you should try this product for your dog's trachea & knees. There are different types for all sorts of problems, they are very effective & have many excellent reviews! I highly recommend this amazing product of Dr John Prudden. Will this work with a 52kg rottwieler. She apparenrly needs TLPO surgery which i was going to get a loan to do however seems high chance they can doother leg as well and i jist cannot get into ten grand debt when have medical bills for myself also. Happy to put mine aside for her to do one but if she ruptures second within small timeframe it will be impossible to do. Would u reccomend though for such a large 7yr old rotti that TLPO is best to reduce chance of it getting worse

My little chihuahua did her cruiate ligament about 5 years ago. We chose not to do surgery. I had to carry her around everywhere and no exercise at all for one year. She was on 24 hour pain relief the whole time. I put her on turmeric as well as green lip muscle. She was amazing and did not do the other leg. She’s now 15 and is still going strong. 💜

I’m going through the same thing. However, combined with that his arthritis and on gabapentin, methocarbamol, Galiprant and CBD oil he still whimpers constantly. We honestly can’t afford surgery or therapy. His other leg has started showing signs of problems as well. After reading this I have him in a cage and will try keeping him there for a week and see if that will help. Thanks for sharing your story.

Dear Dr. Jones, after owning 4 Rottweilers in 30 years, I had surgery performed on 3 cruciate ligaments. The laters surgery, new method, was really very difficult for my dog. When my fourth Rottweiler was diagnosed with the same condition, we had surgery scheduled, but because this dog is very difficult to treat, very hyperactive, we decided at the last minute to cancel. We thought we will try your sugested non surgical treatment. After 26 weeks of limited activity, slowly increasing the walks, today my dog walks as if she never had the rupture. We thank you so much for your advise. My dog is 86 lb and it still worked. Our vet told us without the surgery she will never get better, and she was really bad, her leg was just hanging behind her. We are so grateful.

I wrote a comment here before about using an ace bandaged on my dog's tear and didn't get a response. This happened to my dog this past winter. A complete tear. I was told by the vet that she will never heal without surgery and was being pressured to do so. I decided to research it and took the holistic approach (keeping her sedentary, preventing her from jumping, running, only slow sniff and pee walks, etc.). She is now 100% healed. Compare that to my sister's dog who had the same thing happen to him. He got the surgery and still limps and has difficulty walking. My dog acts like it never happened.

Three days ago, I lost my precious Bernie to a splenic hemangiosarcoma. This morning when I went our my my rescued border collie, he was running and began whimpering. I only got him a month ago. Immediately I picked her up, carried him home. I wrapped his leg from toes to hip with an ace bandage. Then gave him Meloxicam, collagen supplement and curcurmin supplement. How do you know if it's a sprain or an acl or other ligament tear? I honestly can't afford another expensive vet visit after all I have spent at the veterinarian just 3 days ago.

@@talesfromtheleashexpatdogl1426 I took my dog to the vet. The one good thing she gave me to help with the pain was Deramaxx. My dog had to take 50ml. twice a day. The only thing is that it made her feel better when she wasn't fully healed, so I had to make sure she didn't run and jump again until she was fully healed. I do hope your dog feels better and that you got him to the vet to at least diagnose the problem properly.

Reading some of these questions/comments a few people do not really pay attention to the video. To all, best of luck. I too am not trusting of everything I see and hear,. it is the world we live in today, all $$$ based. However, when you do find a trustworthy person, or a product that is working for you, if you are like me you stick with it. That is why our household is dependent on holistic measures; plant based remedies and like Dr. Jones said; in many videos; few or no side effects .... With this awful injury he has done this surg.! So, he has seen the problem from both sides. This is good enough for us. Keep going, Dr. Jones.

Hey Dr. Jones we did all of this with no braces. My wife and I scheduled our days off so one of us was always home with our olde English Jersey. We did take her to our vet and it was a torn ACL. We restricted her to one floor no stairs no jumping for 8 weeks and no walks just bathroom breaks. Took her back for a check -up. I was told start walking her for 1 week no more than a block every second day. After that if all is good 1 block every day. If all is good walk all you want no run time for 1 month. Now restrict the run time for 6 months and she will be fine. Well Doc she seems better than new. Thank you. Oh and I do now feed sardines once a week and green tea always. Thank you so much Dr Jones, you gave the best, sound & visual advise I found for healing my healthy 14 year old, springer spaniel, collie/husky cross dog’s BCL naturally.. I ordered an orthodog brace to support her leg, restricted her movement for 12 weeks, reduced her food only a bit as she was not moving much. She was happy to just lollop around! The Metacam my vet prescribed for pain & inflammation upset her so I gave her cbd oil & added turmeric to her food instead which seemed to work well. I massaged her leg muscles gently daily so she wouldnt seize up! I started out with a 5min walk after a month! Following months l increased her walking time very slowly. After 6 months she recovered amazingly well & happily running again.. I still put the harness on her to go walking for support but she no longer wears it in the house. Her other leg seem to be ok for now. I am so grateful to you 👏🏻👏🏻🎉

I just got the orthodog cruciate care brace for my #155 Dutch Shepherd-9 years old. It seems to be really helping him get up and about. I feel hopeful. I had asked the vet who diagnosed him with torn acl-if there was some kind of brace or splint. She said she never found any that work and only mentioned a $3,500 + surgery & anti-inflammatories. She said he would have to lose weight to even have surgery. He's not really fat but is a BIG guy. My granddaughter works in rescue & said she knows people have euthanized their dogs because of the injury & cost of surgery! Hello ... sorry to hear about your puppy. We did get her a brace that was customized. Here in Canada it was $700. We also have her getting ozone therapy as well as laser therapy. She’s a Bernese Mountain dog and her favourite thing to do is jump and run so it’s hard to keep her steady but she seems to be feeling much better. My friend has a husky was a sled dog and she had the same brace..... With the use of the brace within a few months she was walking well again and running within a year. They did not get surgery. I’m hoping to post a video and a good ending story in a few months but so far so good. The most difficult thing is keeping a big healthy active loving dog quiet. Hope that you have success too.

Like many pet owners I am a senior on limited income and never financially prepared for pet emergencies, sobering but true. I've had ,3 other Standards who passed around the age of 8 yrs old so this guy has been a blessing to have him so many years longer, but I know his days are numbered and I want to give him the best quality of life I can . Bles you for helping us, knowing myself that there are lots of Vets out there who prey on the almighty dollar more than a reasonable healthcare alternative for our precious companions.

Hi Doctor Jones and Thanks so much for looking out for our pets. I also appreciate that you never make anyone feel bad if they cannot afford high cost surgeries. I just wanted to ask what your thoughts are on the Chiropractic technique called VOM for cruciate tears? I had a really inexpensive yet highly effective knee surgery done in the 90's called the Over and Under repair. Nobody does this anymore yet it worked beautifully on my 90lb girl. Do you know why nobody does it now? My Beardie is 50 lbs and is a very fit agility dog yet just blew out his knee in class. My vet says it's a complete tear but I don't want to put him through surgery at 10 years old. Can conservative management repair this and what supplements do you suggest? Thanks and sorry the post is so long.

About 5 days later, she started walking normally with an occasional limp. I was advised by vet that the only real option is surgery. She is 12 years old and I'm concerned about her undergoing anesthesia, etc. I'm aware that preliminary testing will be performed, but am still a little uneasy about it. Our 11 year old Lhasa/Shih Tzu is 18 lbs and was just diagnosed with a CCL tear. She does not seem to be in a great deal of pain but is definitely favoring her leg. My issue is she was also just diagnosed with IVDD after she had an episode of unexplained pain that lasted about 2 weeks a couple of months ago. I worry about how she'll recover from surgery and how much high quality life we are buying with the surgery when you combine her age and the IVDD diagnoses. She was miserable when the IVDD flared up in contrast to this CCL tear which aside from her limp hasn't really affected her mood. Such a tough decision to make.

His first surgery was on left knee last July (actually exactly 1 year ago today) and then surgery on his right knee 6 months later at the beginning of this year. But, it began reluxating in May, so we had to do a second surgery in June, and then 2 weeks post-op he fell and tore his Cruciate Ligament and meniscus. So, we had to do a 4th surgery today to repair that. This is exhausting and I can't keep him still in his kennel. I'm so afraid he is going to re-injure himself this time around! This is a great,i mportant video. My wonderful labrador had an injured cruciate ligament...and I agonized over what to do to help him. I want to say that I viewed this video, and after seeking opinions from my vet and others, everyone said surgery was the only way. The cost was a concern-but even more of a concern, the fact that results could not be guaranteed, and re-injury was even more likely after surgery, or during the recovery process. I followed my heart, and followed the guidelines of having my dog COMPLETELY avoid stairs, and jumping up on anything..feeling I would never know for sure if he could heal without surgery if I did not try what Dr. Jones suggested. I felt that there was really nothing to lose by trying natural healing restricting his movement, since he would be just as restricted if not MORE after surgery. I bought a gate, closed off the stairs to my upstairs bedroom, bought an air mattress, and my dog and I slept downstairs together for almost two months. I felt it was very important for us to be together to support his healing, especially as we always normally slept together. It was very difficult, as we were not nearly as comfortable as we would have been in our "real" bed. After that, I used a sling, and helped him up, and only allowed the one trip up stairs for bed,and continued to restrict him from any running, but we began to take gentle walks. After the first month passed, whenever I could spring for a warm water swim session at a canine therapy center, I did. I could not afford the therapist, but brought a friend that my dog was very close to, and we assisted him with his swims. After these two months went by, he was doing much better... and after three months, it was difficult to detect any evidence of a problem. I found it to be truly miraculous that he could heel so much and so well...and was very glad that I did not put him through the surgery, and that I found this video which inspired me to take the actions I did.

My 80 pound almost 10 year old Silver Tip Lab ruptured his left CCL completely in October of 2017. He also has a degenerative Right hip and left hip was suspect. He could not walk on it for about two days. We totally decrease his activity to just going outside to go to the bathroom for 1 week. Than increase slightly over the next 3-4 weeks We increased his fish oil to 2 teaspoons per day along with putting him on Dasuquin with MSM daily. We added two more supplements from Young Living, Sulferzyme with wolf berry and a product call BLM, for bone, ligament, and muscle. Approximately 3-4 months later he was walking much more normally and within 6 months of his injury he now jumps up on his favorite sofa. You can heal your dog without surgery. BTW that surgery cost in Southern CA is 5K. Thanks Dr Jones.

My lovely chihuahuamix lady has a cruciate ligament tear (complete) on sept 2023 she couldn't even walk because she had fallen. I went to 3 surgeons, but just one of these told me about the alternative way. So i decided to go alternative way, because i can make the surgery later too. I do feed them Barf and organic, so my dogs are taking lots of supplements too, but just healthy ones . And for that she's getting green-lipped mussels, collagen, chondroitin, rosehips organic, curcuma org., vit d3 org., cod liver oil and herb mix especially for dog joints besides to all these things you need for the food too like beef bone meal, algea like spirulina, chlorella, dulse, etc......and physiotherapy and some other treatments like unterwater treadmill she can't do anymore, because she got a cold, even though I blow-dried her fur. But we are doing some other treatments, too. Like red led light, laser, some exercices every day before feeding and outside too. I had to carry her the first 3months almost the whole time and then most of the time😊 and now she walks a little more and more. But she is so wild and willing to play wild freaky gangster game between my dogs (so i call their game😂) i've to take care still 24/7 because she jumps already on and from the dog couch and runs the stairs to our bed up and down. She's a little crazy as chihuahuas used to be. They are so brave and funny in a crazy way. But i love them so much, and i love their crazieness. But to take care of her is not as easy as it seems to be. You really need to oberserve your dog if she/he is not sleeping or at least with you lying in the bed. Please never forget that. I'm so happy i've found all these vetenarian willing to learn about the alternative way too. It took me years! And lots of money. And they take 3 times more than i should cost. We can download the normal price list at the austrian University for veternian medical professionals. Thank good i've met this orthopedic surgeon and pet rescue lady from the Vanivenhaus here in austria. She's about 40 minutes away from my house. But i would drive even longer to get to such a nice vetenarian. And thank you so much for all of yuor videos❤❤❤

He's a 3 year old 115 lb active lab-pit mix, and maybe the world's sweetest dog. We rescued him a year ago.So now we are hearing about TPLO or TTA.We are being quoted about $4400 for TPLO.We are waiting for a quote for TTA but understand it is quite a bit cheaper....maybe about half the cost of TPLO. Are they equally as good ?In one year, this is the 3rd acl surgery we will have done, but the first two were small dogs and only about $1400 each. (Yorkie and old lady hound dog). My dog tore her left ACL and I restricted exercise for 2 months, supplemented with green lipped mussel extract, fish oil and arnica and that healed nicely then she escaped with her daughter one day and tore her right acl, this time a bit worse. My lovely mil called the SPCA on me because apparently it was a welfare issue because I wasn't giving her pain relief or getting her surgery, now the SPCA is threatening to take my dog unless I book her surgery before the end of the week, 2 weeks ago they took her to their vet who diagnosed her and said the only option is surgery and I must give her pain relief tablets everyday or I can be charged with a criminal offence and they will take her and I will have a mark against my name - I have restricted her exercise, brought her another brace for her new torn knee and started again on the suppliements, as well as natural pain relief, I have not been giving the pain relief tablets they prescribed even though I will get in trouble if they find out, they told me I can give her the tablets everyday for years before I will damage her liver, Is that correct? I don't believe it? Anyway they came round today and she said herself that "Bailey ( my dog ) looks much better today, shes not limping but that's because the pain relief has kicked in" little does she know that she hasn't had any pain relief for 2 days and the natural suppliements are working ( when they said they wouldn't ) but if I told her that they would take Bailey and I would get arrested. So much for the welfare of the animal, when Im trying to do the best by her and they are threatening to take her for me. Are they correct? Should I be giving the pain relief tablets? I am getting her surgery because I have no other option but I'm angry they are forcing it on me without trying the natural way, obviously I would get her the surgery if natural doesn't work, she's only just tore it 3 weeks ago. I'm so angry. you were the only person I could think of that I could ask your honest opinion?

If your dog has a bad reaction to usually, the rabies vaccine-- say, if there is a big lump at the vaccination site, be really careful with your dog for the next week because this is when bad injuries can happen from the inflammation caused by the vaccine. What until the bump goes away before letting your dog rage off leash again! I had tendons rupture like crazy on me from recombinant Hep B vaccine (rabies is also recombinant i.e. gmo) and I have seen it happen badly to a golden retreiver from rabies. Thuja is a homepathic treatment for vaccinosis. MSM or DMSO also slap down cytokine storms, but I don't have experience using these with dogs.

Hello My dog was diagnosed with Luxating Patellas in both knees with osteoarthritis already set in. Stage 2 in one stage 3 in other. Vet seemed to think we could manage without surgery right now. We were given Dasuquin Advanced along with Vellepet supplements (cannabias?sp) Henry is 7. Also just did 6 sessions of laser therapy. Also working on weight loss. Eight more pounds to go to get to he’s ideal weight. Well he does get up on his own now. But now has started limping. Vet seems to think it might be a partial tear. Ugh! So he gave us two options, referred us to orthopedic specialist or try a brace . Recommended GoHeroGo for brace. Frustrating he really didn’t guide us to which way to go. With arthritis already set in we are leaning towards a brace. The brace is 800 plus the vet would make the cast and have to sedate him doing this ( don’t know why) so probably 1500 all said and done. What I don’t understand is he says to still take him for short walks but I’m reading other articles is to rest him. I’m so confused! So if I may ask, if the arthritis is already in the knees what are the odds a surgery will be successful? Plus having the other knee in bad shape too.. Thanks so much for your time

Dr. Jones, Our 12 year old yellow lab jumped off the groomers table and injured her left front leg. The joint between her paw and elbow has been extremely swollen and bruised and she cannot put any weight on it! We took her to our vet - had x-rays and blood work done and the examination revealed no broken bones and the blood work came back as “normal”. The vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory for 7 days - after which there was no change. We brought her back for more x-rays and blood work to be told that everything looks the same and the vet prescribed more anti-inflammatories! After another week, there was still no change. We inquired as to why the limb was not wrapped or supported and the vet indicated that it could be an infection in the joint and wrapping it could cause more harm. At this point the vet prescribed antibiotics - which we have been administering for three days now with no change. The vet indicated that if there is no change within two weeks to stop the meds and bring our dog back for more tests - for possible bone cancer! Our dog is still limping and the swelling and bruising remain!!! With the information provided, can you please advise as to whether or not our dog’s limb should have been supported? Can you please help?! Thank you. Michelle

First of all it depends on the extent of damage. If the ligament is not completely ruptured there is some chance you can heal the leg without surgery unless the dog is highly active or large breed. Please read up and be sure because the longer your dog goes without surgery when they should, your dog is going to be in a lot of pain and the leg may become lame (non functional). My dog had a rupture and the only option was surgery due to large breed and complete rupture. If you listen he states the EXTENT of damage determines whether surgery is needed. All vets perform a physical to determine the extent of the injury which in most cases won’t further damage the leg. They may also want an x-ray to see the bone structures because bone fragments and menisci can also be damaged during rupture. That way they can get a complete picture.

I have said I will give it a good few weeks for her to recover a bit and see how she is but I am not sure if I should book her in for surgery or not. What do you think? Thank you for the video. My 80 lbs Golden partially tore his CCL. He hasn't been baring any weight and only using 3 legs. I only take him out to potty and he's in his crate all day. I have the ortho dog brace, but I'm only on week 4 of no exercise. when should I start using the brace? He's lost a lot of muscle in his injured leg. feeling rather helpless and that he might tear the other knee due to over use!

My puppy runs and walks with her left leg up sometimes and when she walks on it, it is slightly tilted to the left. What’s wrong with her leg? It seems not to bother her at all

I took my dog on a walk the other day and I have an American Rottweiler and we were walking in some parts where there little dips and like her back legs slide under her and landed on her back hinds I felt very bad for her and didn’t think knowing she’s big that she’s not suppose to be as active like that and she had hurt herself she cries in pain when I barely touch it I wonder if she’s in the same boat as some of these other dogs I don’t have health insurance for her best advice?

My dog is a corgi mix and we just found out that he has torn ACL and that surgery was needed. We said we couldn’t afford it and we have no insurance and my dog didn’t show any signs of hurting. He limps sometimes and we told doctor last year and they said it was arthritis. Now we got X-rays because he was limping more and more and they confirmed it. We can’t afford surgery but they said we could try water therapy and other options. We are getting him a brace. My dog is active and loves running and playing he is like a puppy. Thanks for this video I am going to make sure he doesn’t go on long walks or he is not outside out of his Leash. Any other options or what We should do please let me know. We are just worried he will do it to the other leg too.

Any Update on how your dog's doing, please? Update on my comment 4/21: I was worried about my dog, because sometimes there was some limping. I switched to BARFing her and Feed her some Glucosamine. She is completely fine, now! I think it was a nutricion problem.

Hi Doc - very appreciative of your videos. You helped me heal my dogs acute colitis when he was a puppy from another video. My 11 month old husky/pit mix who is 48 lbs was carrying his rear leg, and was found to have ruptured his “tarsal medial collateral ligament” in his hock joint... the vet said he will need surgery as he thinks it is completely torn based off X-ray and exam. We are following up with an ortho surgeon vet but I am sure he will recommend surgery as it is his specialty. All the information I’m finding online is related to knee injuries and not the hock joint. From an outside perspective do you think the same non-surgical approach can be applied to this injury as well?

It can, but it takes a long time to form adequate scar tissue. You can get a walking splint which supports the hock- I had a few clients who found this eventually worked

@@VeterinarySecrets My poodle was recently injured with severe cruciate tear and also has hip problems in opposite leg. She is 12 almost 13 and surgery is not an option so I am keeping her from running, jumping, climbing, etc. a lot of rest, I carry her out to potty, etc. very limited movements, I am also doing some low impact balance exercises on her where I lift each leg alternating, just a little to help her balance on opposite leg. I want to get her healed, she is my baby. She is also getting galliprant and flexidin daily. Am I doing the right things to help her recover? I know it is going to take a long time but I am patient. Please all advice is appreciated. Reply

Hello Dr. Jones thank you so much for the video. I know you’re busy but I’m really hoping you could help me out. So we have a 39 lbs male Pembroke Welsh Corgi and back in March 18, 2019 he jumped down from the 4th step of the stairs and started limping and brought him to the vet the next day and since we couldn’t afford to get him an xray at that time the vet was sure that his right back leg the ccl was torn and suggested 6 week rest and his leg actually almost completely healed and back to normal but then 2 days ago he accidentally got out of the house to the backyard and started running around like crazy and my family and I knew we had to stop him from running and next thing we know his other leg his left leg gave in. I just saw him fall and stop and lifting his left leg trying to walk. So I bring him to a new vet the next day and they did an x ray on both legs and his left leg ccl is completely torn and his right is okay. And the vets suggested surgery asap. And im seeing a lot of people not doing the surgery. So what i wanted to ask you Dr. should we do the surgery? My corgi is only 2 yrs 7 months old and he’s overweight. Or should I just try if his legs would heal naturally? Please help! Thank you in advance!

Likely in this case I would have you consider surgery- the one leg is already compromised, so he could further damage it while this one heals. If not consider a brace- this is a good company: www.poshdogkneebrace.com/

Turmeric Curcumin is the best thing for Dogs with joint problems. I have given my dog it for a few years. Without it she cant walk on one leg due to knee problems. It takes 4 to 8 weeks to start working. I give her 1 pill a day of Turmeric Curcumin with BioPerine and Ginger for Anti-inflammatory. It has to be 95% Curcuminoids, very important. The best one is Dr. Matthew's. It's $20 for a 2 month supply. Just 1 pill a day not 2.

Hi Doctor, We have a 5 year old king charles. she was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia when she was 6 months old. The veterinarian in NY did a total hip replacement on one hip saying the other may straighten out. Unfortunately the hip replacement was not placed perfectly and the other hip has severe arthritis. She has been lame ever since and is on rimadyl, dasquin, movoflex. She gets around and occasionally will do a short romp. Trying to jump a high curb she tore her acl. Doc said it may be full or partial. Said re-evaluate after 2 weeks of rest. I would prefer not put her through a surgery again. She is a trooper. Thanks for any help.

I am so thankful that I found you! I am from Denmark, but I hope it doesn't matter. I have 3 lovely dogs at home, and they mean the world to me, but my oldest dog (he is almost 12 years old) got his right hind leg ligament torn. He is a small dog (breed: Bichon Havanais) and he is really a strong and healthy dog. Is it safe for us to use your advices for my lovely dog? Or what to do? Hope you will answer asap!! thank you!

My dog sprained her ankle back in December, and was limping, and crying when she walked. After I brought her home I bathed, her with warm water and was able to walk just fine. But the swelling never went down. I put a band on her for a week, and gave her natural anti inflammatories. She's was doing great running and playing, until today we noticed she was limping again. We have a vet appointment, on Tuesday, any advice for the swelling..
