CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bunny (Christine Baranski) fires Ronald (Sean Patrick Thomas) when she finds love letters written to her daughter Cecile (Selma Blair).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In an adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos' novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) are step-brother and step-sister living in Manhattan. With their absent parents travelling in Europe, the wealthy pair have the family penthouse to themselves as they while away their summer break before beginning senior year at a private high school. Sebastian, bad-boy lothario, has apparently slept with all the girls in town and appears numb to it all. Kathryn, who appears to be the good girl class president, is actually far more amoral and malicious than Sebastian, but maintains appearances to the contrary. When she is dumped by her boyfriend, Court Reynolds (Charlie O'Connell), for the innocent Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blair), she schemes revenge by destroying Cecile's reputation. She challenges Sebastian to deflower Cecile and transform her into a tramp to humiliate Court. Sebastian isn't as interested as Cecile -- she's spent her whole life in a Catholic girl's school and presents no challenge. The girl who has caught his attention is Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), the new headmaster's daughter. Annette had written an article for Seventeen Magazine on her plans to stay a virgin until she finds her one true love. Kathryn makes a wager. If Sebastian fails to lure Annette into bed before the summer is over, Kathryn gets his car. If he succeeds, Sebastian gets Kathryn, whom he wants anyway. Sebastian accepts the bet, but Annette turns out to be more than either of them bargained for.

"I got you off the streets!" "Got me off the streets? I live at 59th and park." Contextual wise this is HILARIOUS, so for anyone who is wondering/ unfamiliar: 59th Street and Park (avenue) is one of, if not THE most affluent/ exclusive areas you could possibly reside in all of NYC, much less MANHATTAN. Some of the wealthiest people in the WORLD reside there. So, it speaks volumes. It's Central Park South. It's 2 blocks away from the Plaza Hotel, Bergdorf Goodman, 5th ave; which is littered with luxury brand flagships of Bulgari, Chanel, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Saks 5th ave., Prada, etc. You could not get any further away from “The Streets” than this area.

I think it's akin to claiming "I have Black friends, so I can't be racist". She gave money to a (partially) Black man so therefore she's not racist is what she's implying I think. Might also come across as a humorous comment due to Colin Powell being quite light-skinned, so she gave money to the "Whitest looking" Black man ever.

Christine and Sean deserved awards for this. I just read an interview they did with Sean asking if he felt that cruel intentions could be remade. I think that not only could it, but that it's still relevant today. Just dealing with interracial dating alone could be the tip of a huge iceberg of things they could talk about. My goodness the writing team could have alot of fun with this.

In 2024, the law of consent of sexual activity is 17. It must have been the law 25 years ago. That would put Ronald in the clear. Kathryn would still video record their "sessions" for blackmail purposes. She could always show that footage to Cecille and perhaps to even Cecille's mother. Kathryn could claim that she was told that Ronald and Cecille had broken up. It must be noted that law would incriminate Ronald if he had sexual activity with 14 year old Cecille. While that did not happen, Kathryn could make certain a Black man could be accused of such considering he had sent to Cecille love letters and that she had copies of them. However, that NY law would incriminate Sebastian because he was actually sexually involved with Cecille. It would not surprise me that Kathryn recorded that too with Sebastian not knowing. She could blackmail Sebastian to stay away from their own house or she would turn over such footage to the police.
