A tip I learned recently to help you not forget to clear out your safe: After you've packed for your final disembarkation and you have set aside what you are going to wear, put one of your shoes in the safe. You will need the shoe to be fully dressed and leave your cruise vacation, thus forcing you to open the safe on your final morning.

🤣🤣 I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay $3,000 to not drink and smoke. That's hilarious AF. If I get caught I'll pay your fee, but I've been smoking pot on cruises for years and getting WASTED. That's THE ENTIRE POINT OF A CRUISE. Lmao! If you want to charter a sailboat " to be on the water", go do that. I will continue taking off the alarms and putting them in trashbags to smoke my chronic.

We are pretty good tippers, so most staff we come across let us do what we want(pertaining to the funny smells in the bathrooms and smoking area). I have had a couple friends over the years have to take a flight home though. It definitely happens🤣. I feel like as long as you are respectful to everyone around you; no harm, no foul. I do the same at hotels. I hang up my towels and straighten up the room. I don’t make the bed, but I pull up the covers and I tell the steward or housekeeping that there’s no need to make the bed. They can check the TP, maybe remove the trash and I’m good on a day to day basis, I don’t need vacuuming or dusting every day. They’re not maids.

In the loud noise department -- shouting into your cellphone because you have a weak connection. On my last cruise, I called the cabin next door, using the ship's phone system. I told the woman who answered that I now knew her husband's entire confidential business strategy for the second quarter of the next year because I'd heard every single word of it, clear as a bell, through the cabin wall. That was on the first full day of the trip, and I never heard another sound from that cabin for the whole remainder of a two-week cruise!

Same. I went on a 10 day cruise without any room service at all simply because it was wasteful in my mind to my maid/steward and unnecessary and I only asked for tissue paper and another thing but why do people constantly need fresh towels and bed sheets. When we left I took all the bedsheets, towels, and pillow cases off and lazy folded them and put them on the desk so she could just pick it up. Takes me no time and I left a tip since they work very hard and she was nicest to me since she could just skip my room and use it as a break period.

Another tip about the minibar - You can ask to have the items removed. This especially helps when you have kids who can open it up.
@NYandAZ
@NYandAZ 2 жыл бұрын
I did that when I had my teen children in an adjoining room. It was all removed when we got on, it the staff stocked it every night afterwards. We only found out at checkout. We were completely refunded due to their lack of following very strict instructions for minors. (Of course our sons never told us during the trip). They thought they’d get away with getting drunk in their cabin. We thought they were sea sick. Nope. Parents don’t and can’t know everything. We try our best only to be undermined somehow. Infuriating. Ruined my memories of the entire trip. 😔💔

My last two cruises, I requested that the fridge in my room be emptied so I could use it for health needs. They removed everything, placed it into a sack with a lock (RCCL) and placed it on the top shelf in my closet. If you can't resist the temptation of the minibar, know that you can request that it can be emptied prior to embarkation.

Bring along an non-insulated water bottle along with an insulated one and use the non-insulated one to chill water in the mini-bar for drinking. Ship water is made by desalination, once cold it’s great.

As someone who works in hospitality, whether you’re in a hotel or on a cruise or wherever, strip the bed and throw all the dirty linen and towels in the bathroom or bath tub before they come in to change your sheets, if you can. It saves housekeeping staff so much time and they’ll love you for it!

It's like a cheerless LaQuinta that moves to places that you could see more effectively on your own. I was quite impressed on our last cruise. It was a newer ship, and (like in some European hotels), you have to put your room key in a slot on the wall to make the outlets work. Hence, when you pull your card to exit, all lights and electrical units go out. I also noticed there is a three-light system over the cabin door. The cabin stewards can tell when you are in your room with your card in the slot, when you have left your room because there is no card in the slot, and when you have engaged the "do not disturb" button.

Booked my 1st cruise for my husband and I, with my sister for her 2nd. One thing she told me is that her steward wasn't taking his tip every day. Finally she told him, if there is money in this spot, this is meant for you to take for yourself, please take it. He then took the tip every day. It made me sad in a way, he was so afraid of being accused of stealing after finally being able to go back to work after the pandemic, he wasn't taking his tip. She hadn't thought of that until she talked to some of the spa staff about the workers on the ship. You'd be surprised about how little they actually make =( She also told me to make sure I bring plenty of small bills, just for tipping purposes.

I’ll be going on my first cruise soon and I find these tips so useful. I travel frequently for my competitions, so many of these seemed like common sense but the unplugging electronics was new to me! I never do it at home so I’m going to have to write myself a note to remember. One thing I love doing when I’m traveling (and generally is forgotten) is treating the staff with kindness. Please, thank you and framing things in a question so it’s an option (I get they are super busy) is something I learned early will help get my needs heard as I’m disabled. Kindness travels faster than demands! Be kind!

1 huge tip if you're worried about water - filter water bottles! I got a brita one ages ago because I live in South Korea and the water here is potable but not drinkable. It means I can grab some water while at work, or if I go to a theme park or something I can fill it up and it tastes just fine! You obviously have to replace to filter every once in the while but it's super handy!

My last cruise was in Norway (Hurtigruten), and they specifically told us that the tap water was good to drink. I filled my water bottle from the tap every day and it was fine - tasted the same as bottled water I drink at home. On other cruises, I've filled my water bottle at the dispenser in the buffet. Sometimes they ask that you fill water bottles from a glass rather than directly from the dispenser in order to avoid cross contamination.

Here’s a no no to avoid: don’t leave a big mess for your stateroom host. I was just on a back to back Disney Cruise and when the first leg ended the people in the cabin next to us, 6 kids and 3 adults, left a mess so big the host needed to bring in fans to air it out and change out all 3 mattresses because there was urine in them. #11 is the best. We had considerable in cabin recycling of cans and bottles on one cruise that had a tiny wastebasket and could only put them in one place and wish there was a recycling chute you find in some buildings. I know they often get abused by idiots not reading signs and being careful, but I also I think it would help if cruise lines can't reduce bringing so much on board. Start with a souvenir cup you can use in your cabin sink and at coffee stations. We tried to minimize housekeeping’s efforts out of mutual courtesy. One left out and hinted at by #2 exiting the bath naked and #7 noisy sex is your door locked by the deadbolt while you’re in it might be opened up not only by housekeeping or other staff, but by others in your group like your children old enough to be allowed to stay in another cabin. Depending where and what kind of balcony you have depends what you can or be willing to do. Mine was on 6 deck on the QM2 which is just below the boat/main deck. Some no line sun bathing, open curtains but watch out for lifeboat drill! Depending which side my cabin was facing in port, sea view or land/other liner view, I'd go out topless if a sea view. That wind tunnel effect you mention, by having the balcony door open and someone else coming through the entrance door, isn't only for ships. Years ago, a fellow traveller got her hand smashed in the entrance door at the oceanview hotel where we were staying, due to the wind tunnel effect. Sure put a damper on our fun with a necessary trip to the E.R., and healing time afterwards.

Went on a beautiful Mediterranean cruise with my parents, my husband, our two daughters, my sister and her husband. I jokingly refer to it as our naked cruise. My folks had our daughters I was blow drying my hair naked and my husband was just getting out of the shower; our oldest came marching in with my dad. Lesson: just because you have a key you should knock first. My parents were next door to my sister. Mom knocked the door, no answer. So she peaked around the divider between the balconies. "Hey I just knocked, why didn't you answer." They were making love. My brother-in-law and my dad were both traumatize the rest of the trip.

Here's a no-no... dont harass your neighbors by peeking over the balcony divider and asking them 20 questions. Mind your business, I'm trying to enjoy the PRIVATE balcony if I wanted the company of strangers I would go up to the other decks -_- the same lady who did that to us was excessively loud the whole trip. I cant stand inconsiderate people, it's not hard to be a decent person.

We had the neighbours from hell on a February cruise. Loud obnoxious and smoked continuously. Verbally abused their steward. We demanded and were given a cabin on the other side of the ship. Celebrity Equinox mid February.

The dog the old lady and a tent in the woods. You don’t piss anyone off and have a reconnect with Mother Nature. I’d feel like a dog in a hot car on one of those things, nowhere to escape.

one thing not mentioned that is at least frowned upon is taking food from the cafeteria back to your cabin to eat. You should order room service. I did it once and was told there was a danger of cross contamination...I am not sure if that is correct or even likely but I never did it again.Not all lines may have the same rule though. Worth checking before.

Call and have them remove the mini-bar. It gives you more room plus avoids an accidental removal and charge of an item.

Never been on cruise but ... Great video. Rule 7 and Rule 11 not only apply to cruise ships, but everywhere all the time. Sorry you had to remind some people to keep their noise down and not make a mess er cleanup after they create a mess.

I was on a Carnival Cruise and some young adults climbed out on top of the life boats which were suspended along side the ship in the middle of the night, while underway. I called Security immediately to report the situation and thankfully no one fell overboard. Apparently they weren't too smart.

It also helps to take a picture of your room before you settling in (with a time stamp) and also when you leave also take a picture of that minibar (alao with a time stamp) This will help you prove that you did not cause any damage or take anything from the minibar. as sometimes the cruise liners tend to lie.

We learned the balcony door lesson when my mother and sister insisted on keeping the door open. Steward came to let us know that all the neighboring cabins were freezing as the A/C system was working overtime to cool our cabin (Mexico cruise).

I haven't been cruising since '98....but have been enjoying all inclusives...I ALWAYS tidy my room before leaving it for the day...I never leave a mess...I hang up my clothes, neaten up shoe area...bathroom...but that is how I run as well at home...hate untidy/messy...tidying up your room ensures everything in its place, keeps your stuff safe, and makes it easier for the cleaning crew...you get a cleaner room too as sometimes the staff is instructed NOT to move personal items...but clean AROUND it....

While on the Carnvial Ecstasy, my parents in the cabin next door locked themselves out their room on accident. We called managment to come help but since they took so long, my brother climbed over the railing of our balcony and somehow made it to my parents balcony and unlocked the door from the inside. I was terrified to say the least

Wasn't a good idea to climb over the balcony. You can be disembarked for that. Also, the fact your brother was able to enter their room from the balcony tells your parents did not lock their balcony door. Wasn't a good idea either; if a criminal minded person was in the neighboring room they could have entered your parents' room in that same way.

I really like the advice (and it makes me like you even more!) to not leave a mess for your cabin steward. They are often working long hours, and making them take some extra time on your cabin means a little less sleep--which they are already short on! It takes me 3 minutes to "pick up" my cabin before I leave it, and it's worth 30 minutes of sleep for my steward.
