I worked for security at a nuclear plant. Ammunition was considered contraband but not as serious an offense as a handgun. The best advice is that if you have a backpack, duffel bag, or whatever that you use to take a firearm to a range for practice or hunting, use that bag exclusively for that purpose. Get a different bag for everything else.

Interesting to watch. I wonder if you’re aware that the age for alcohol consumption in some countries is not always the same as in USA; consequently the country ship is registered must surely be relevant - apart from actions to recognise & respect laws of country whose waters your vessel is currently in. I’m amazed that any, ANY, responsible weapon owner would not track every bullet or weapon in their possession. Accidentally forget a couple of bullets in your backpack…. Shee!!!

How were these two bullets not flagged when he boarded the ship? Don't use a lanyard but regarding it being a tourist sign. I've worked in security for decades. Display of ID is mandatory at all times while in office as well as the entire "grounds" which is open to the public. Over decades of working in the operations center I never heard of or saw a security report come in at our location or any other (I worked at a regional hub responsible for over 10 locations) about a worker being targeted because their badge was displayed. What I have seen is that workers transiting from work/home have been targeted and had their backpack/purse/bag stolen. Whether it be on their person or left in their vehicle. It's why when we are in any sketchy area the only thing my GF carries is her phone in her pocket.

So on our last family vacation on Carnival last November. The Uncle in our group "cleaned" out his backpack in the cabin before going ashore in Roatan. Well he had several SPENT shells in his backpack. He tossed them in the trash can in his room. When we got back on board, security was waiting for him. Took him to the cabin, he agreed to have them fully search the cabin. He explained that he had taken his backpack to the range before going on vacation. We had flown to the ship and nothing said. Thankfully he didn't have any more or a gun of any kind with him. Security cleared the room and him, THANKFULLY!!!! No other action was taken, thank goodness Carnival handled it very reasonably! There was NEVER one time that it led to SMART decisions by an underage drinker. At one reception, the brother of the bride got into a fight with some other guests and left the reception. He was picked up by the local police arguing with patrons at a nearby bar. On his return for identification, the mother of the bride was arrested as she assaulted two officers because she demanded the officers release her son. So here was this beautiful bride with her mother and brother going to jail before she cut her wedding cake. The punishment seems particularly harsh for the "crime". However, too many US travelers seem to believe that everyplace they travel is just an extension of the United States. Valuable lesson to all that it isn't.

The punishment, if found guilty, should stand. Travelers should respect the laws of the countries to which they travel. Whether it is guns, ammo, CBD or other drugs, if it is illegal there, travelers should know and accept FULL responsibility for their misdeeds.

As far as wearing the lanyards around your neck, we just went on a group tour through three cities in Italy and the group had us wearing lanyards around our necks with the name of the tour company on it Etc but when we were left to go out on our own, we realized we were shooting ducks, so to speak or targets for the local pickpockets and even for the restaurant people to take advantage of us and charged us $10 cover charge instead of their usual $5 cover charge. So we started taking the lanyards off as soon as we went out on our own away from the tour group

My husband was stopped at the airport on our way to a cruise two years ago because there were bottle rockets in the pouch of his wheelchair. We had no idea. Grandkids probably stuck them there after July 4 festivities. So, someone from ATF had to come and accompany me out of the secure area to dispose of the fireworks before I could return. Fortunately, we didn't miss our flight after all that, but my husband is now on a TSA list that he tried to bring explosives on an airplane.

Wearing a lanyard as a status symbol is crazy. As a lady cruiser, I’m not carrying my purse everywhere on the ship when I can charge my ship card. And I also wear dresses with no pockets on the cruise. So with no pockets and not wanting to carry my purse the lanyard was very convenient. I’m not showing off and I was never concerned that people were going to attack me for my ship card to steal the things from my cabin 🙄

Both are "items of death." A bullet on its own cannot kill you. Also, _anything_ can be an "item of death." Most murders are caused by blunt (not a drug pun) instruments. As to the issue at hand, the former was _intentionally_ brought knowing it was illegal, while the latter is a bone head mistake. I'm sure your rose-colored sunglasses gives you your perspective, but those of us with open minds know that _both_ people received sympathy and hatred for their actions.
