Cruise news today. People embarking on Villa Vie Odyssey received bad news this week as their ship is delayed until June 15 due to a bad rudder and water tank. Juneau, Alaska, will cap cruise passengers effective immediately. A United AIrlines flight lands with several sick cruisers that reportedly sailed on a Royal Caribbean ship. Hmm..Juneau...There are other ports in SE AK. How about rotating them a bit more if the sailing time allows. One week Grand Princess goes to Juneau, next week Sitka, next week Icy Straight Point. If it a Seattle Round Trip, drop Juneau on Even weeks and call on Victoria, BC for a good full day, or call on Vancouver (cargo dock next to current cruise dock) for a full day. There are options. All cruise lines, working together under CLIA can make a schedule to get this done. Not collusion to fully shut out a port, but certainly show a port that they can be left out if the Port does not want them. I am looking forward to my cruise Alaskan cruise in August. I will see parts of Alaska that I would not have normally seen (been to Central AK - Ft. Wainwright). I am looking forward to it. I will get to complete an American Volkssport Association walk in Juneau to give me Walked in AK Capital for credit towards the AVA Walked All State Capitals. If Juneau freezes out cruise ships, the only way to do this will be Coastal Ferry or plane.

I don’t think they’ll ever freeze ships out, but you have a great point about rotating. That an exciting walk. How many other capitals do you have under your belt?

@@CruiseRadio I only have two others at the this time. But I have 100 Walks with the AVA now. I live in an area without the right now. We will be doing the 5K AVA walks in each of our AK Ports of Call instead of the $50 walking tour. We will still get to see the highlights of each port (not much on spending $1K each for helo tour) and have time left over for eating a local lunch, souvenir shopping if desired, etc...This whole cruise is about slowing down for us, picking on or two things to do and then find something back on board or sit and people watch with a coffee in hand. We will also do a walk in Anchorage and opted to stay an extra day just to do so.

Good morning, Doug! What in the "World" is going on with these World Cruise start-ups! 😂 You would think the Villa Vie Odyssey would have been prepped long before the sail date. It sounds like to me that this company is using passenger deposits to help fund fixing up the ship vs using bank loans or company line of credit to do it. I have a feeling this ship will have more mechanical problems on its trip. I think Magellan would have taken a pass on using this ship for circumnavigating the Earth! 😂

I love your daily reports, so concise and complete. I look daily at the Royal stock prices because back in '08 I bought a couple hundred shares of Royal at , get this, $15. a share. I look at what they would be worth today had I not sold the stock when the price got to $95. a share.

@@CruiseRadio I kept looking at how much I had made (on paper) thus far when it got to $95 and decided that the market could tank again, so I took my profits. A stock broker told me it was projects to go to about $100 but I could not wait. I originally bought the stock because Royal gave a $100 on board credit for each cruise if you had at least 100 stocks. So for about 10 years I made that hundred per cruise, at 2/3 cruises a year. .

That's the problem. I've been following the situation in Bar Harbor since it was a stop on my cruise last year and I can't imagine how all those small businesses will survive, especially when the lines start bypassing it altogether.

How does the max number of passengers work in Juneau? 16,000 per day... Does that mean they are only counting the passengers that get off the ships that day? Or, are they counting the actual total passengers onboard the ships, even though hundreds might not get off the ship in Juneau? Say, there are 3 ships that hold 6,000 passengers each, but only 5,000 each get off the ship? Is the total count then, 18,000 or 15,000 for Juneau's purposes?? Thanks Doug!!!

Typically based on max capacity of ship. I’ve yet to hear one split hairs over being over. It happens.

Mornin' Doug!! If I'm hanging on through yet another delay for a world cruise, I'm wondering how reliable that ship is going to be if/when it does sail. I believe if I get motivated (and financed) to cruise the world I'll book it 21 days at a time on proven cruise lines with tried-and-true ships.

I have a crazy cruise obsession. It’s the entire reason I started this channel. But 1300 days on a ship would not be fun at all IMO. I’d be good for a month depending on the itinerary and how many people were onboard (which they dont have to worry about it seems).

The ship that was selling rooms for big bucks & more money for just living on it was never a smart move, old ship, cruise line that had never done anything remotely like this. I see many trying to get their money back, good luck.

Hi Doug, Thanks for the report. We have a question about the number of people allowed at a cruise port. Are passengers (& crew) counted as they leave the ship? Then are these different cruise ship’s port visitors added together? If so, then it could be possible for you to be ready to exit your ship only to be turned back- 15,997; 15,998; 15,999; 16,000 & nobody else can leave!!

You ate counted as you come and go from the ship, you have to scan your card/ID

That's a very good question. Bar Harbor was a stop on my cruise last year and even though it was on a smaller ship by today's standards ( around 2500, I think), over half the passengers wouldn't be allowed to disembark there today.
