On Wednesday 13th May, the lockdown restrictions on the English waterways were relaxed slightly to permit day trips (no overnight stays away from a home mooring) for leisure boaters. As I'm currently moored in a marina where I'd stopped for winter, I am following those guidelines rather than the Continuous Cruising rules. Anyway I took the opportunity to fire up the narrowboat and do a five-hour cruise down towards Fazeley Junction and back.

Hello David. I’m the chap that met you the other day on the pontoon when you smelled smoke and thought your boat was on fire. My boat is the one on the end painted undercoat grey. If you’re at a loose end you could always paint it blue for me. 😁

I've got to say that I'm really enjoying your videos. Being from the US I find y'alls accent very calming (not sure why..lol), plus, your narration reminds me of nature shows of the past, which have always been a favorite of mine. The slow pace of "canal life" when combined with your smart and witty narration is a huge stress reliever especially during these trying corona times. Thanks for the amazing views of the amazingly beautiful English country side. Coming at you from North Carolina BTW.

The pink bush is as you say a Rhododendron shrub. They grow wild in the State of Washington but have been perfected by nurseries. Your weather is very similar to ours so I'm sure they grow well there. The shrub does not do well in warm climates. By the way, they come in almost every color of the rainbow. I have about 30 in my yard of which a red one is over 30 feet tall. Magnificent!

Yup, no matter how many times I watch this video, I still have such a good laugh hearing you say* - “and how’s this for a bit of duck action!?!” And then, when you describe the little Moorhen chicks, I get that warm and fuzzy feeling. Cuteness overload. Your observation, of a generation (or 2) of waterfowl growing up without seeing boats, and then totally freaking out when they do, was just great. The narration/script in this video is one of my favourites. It’s amusing and profound in just the right measure. Thank you Mr Johns, very much appreciated. Cheerio 🙂🐿🌈❤️ *the Star Trek, Dr Who, Star Gate SG1 references are ALWAYS awesome and appreciated wherever and whenever you include them - goes without saying I’d have thought 🙂
