Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Arena, Yu-Gi-Oh! Online, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation, Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM and most recently, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel. 2 out of 7 attempts to make an online/mobile version of Yu-Gi-Oh! is not a commendable track record lmao And Yu-Gi-Oh! is the one franchise Konami actually cares about. If anything CR has managed to keep more games alive than Konami has.

They literally announced this during Pecorine's Birthday, what the heck crunchyroll shame on you! I've seen gacha games die left and right but some had at least put their games into "life-support". But no, Crunchyroll just had to shut it down out of nowhere. Hoping cygames can pick this game up, or at least get a trusted publisher but this is all unlikely. Condolences to fans of Priconne's global server.

not stupid you can't see just from revenue but you need also see from total active users because that's the burden. the revenue is sure 180k but you forgot the player is 300k that's really2 bad. why ? well to understand game business usually we use user to revenue ratio, if it's greater than two that's good, if it's even still acceptable as long as got investor, if it's less than 1 ratio that's a red flag. if you understand that's formula that's mean PC user to revenue ratio is 300k : $180k that's mean a player only generate around 60 cent! that's a dissapointment number to developer and investor. also keeping the server alive for 300k player cost more than 180k . well if the player only 50k and the revenue is 180k the game developer will be cherish because with such cost they generate $3 per player.

I thought Princess connect would be too big to fail. It even has a nice 2 season Anime but somehow Crunchyroll dropped the Ball and instead of adapting like Nexon did with Blue Archive or decreasing the free gems to push players to the cash shop, they basically just gave up with little effort. It doesn't help that players were discouraged by their record but shutting down an IP this big just proves players right and shows they know nothing about long term business.

I remember though my proudest moment in Priconne was beating Karyl's 6* ascension quest cuz it was really hard to do cuz the enemy Karyl kept nuking my team, but I eventually got through it and made her my first 6*. I did the same for Pecorine and Kokoro too, all three are my home screen girls. Kokoro also gives by far my favoritest voice line when she talks about being a bride some day like how could they possibly look at something so absurdly cute and decide to take it away from us. The reason why FGO is an outlier is likely because of Type-Moon having a big stake in the project. Most of revenue from outside FGO like figurines and posters are probably mostly going to TM rather than Aniplex. The reason why Aniplex treats FGO different is because want to remain the publisher for all the future TM games and anime. For example, Mahoyo, a TM game, was just released worldwide under Aniplex. Pretty sure they want to remain on good terms for the Fate-Extra remake and the potential lostbelts anime

Yeah, FGO just expanded their global servers to many more countries too. Sure, most the money comes in from the JP server for FGO because they have the most players on the JP server and many of them are whales when it comes to spending for new servants. Not to mention actively hiring more people for the game staff right now. Aniplex does want to maintain a good working relationship with type-moon though because if it goes sour, type moon can enter talks with any number of publishers who would love to publish Fate franchises to make money.

The biggest thing about this EoS is that the JP side is going strong as is KR, CH, and even THAI. I could understand if the whole worldwide service of the game is shutting down due to low sales, but its not. They also CHOSE to announce it two days before April Fools, give us a one month notice only, AND announce on the day of the Mascot's birthday, which is such abhorrent bad foresight that saying I can't trust them with any future gacha responsibilities is an understatement. At least with like Dragalia Lost, another Cygames, they gave their player base a six months advance notice, still made enough events, and also concluded their story. Eng won't get that for Priconne now. As much as people are saying "go jump to JP". I don't read/speak japanese, I don't want to download an emulator, and I don't want to start from scratch. I literally have four characters (Ram, Rem, Uzuki, and Rin (IM@S)) that you CANNOT get anymore in the JP server. That was the whole point for me to stay in the ENG because I've grown to love the collab characters too. Two years of work on a currently 5 year strong JP game going to complete waste is just the final nail in the coffin for my opinion of CR.

The anime and manga community has accused Crunchyroll of adopting predatory tactics when it comes to Gacha games. In this case, it’s Princess Connect! Re: Dive that will be shut down on April 30, 2023. This is a popular mobile game that was extremely successful and garnered a massive fanbase that was loyal to the game. One of the main producers of the game is Crunchyroll, which means they have control over the game when it comes to non-Japanese servers. In the announcement post, the platform didn’t particularly state a reason that was directly responsible for the removal of the game. This certainly upset the entire fanbase, since a well-performing game was removed without them receiving a proper explanation.

I saw the news and could tell whoever wrote the blogpost was sad about it getting shut down as well. Precon was such a big title imo, I knew a vtuber who played it, some of my friends did, and although I never did, I didn't realize it was a CR game because of how popular it seemed. For future reference for mobile players, when you play a Gacha, despite how much you enjoy it, look at the company who published it as well as how much traction it's making. Used to play a mobile game called Heir of Light and spent probably close to 1k shortly after it released. I started to see signs that it was going to be all too popular so I made the hard decision to leave and while it's still running, it's littered with ads and 0 direction. Mihoyo I'd say is a good company. I grew up playing their games (No Honkai Impact 3 wasn't their first) and the only reason they shut down one of their mobile games, Houkai Gakuen 2, was because it truely wasn't popular in the US (still available in JP and CN though) which makes sense as I've never really met anyone who knows what that game was.

The problem is, it was taken by Crunchyroll for the Global server. The game itself for the JP server still going. So it was more of "translator" problem rather than the company that makes it. This is quite big cause Cygames is a big name, the JP server of Pricone basically still thriving, meanwhilr the Global server that is under CR is going down. And not just going down, but just in a year, where some Indie gacha games actually could hold their games at least 3 years. Meaning, the management at CR is really that bad.

As someone who cried over both Magia Record (which was my first gatcha game) and Princess Connect, I agree with your statement about losing trust. I've played their My Hero Academia game and still will because I think it's fun, but I've always been a free-to-play person and even with spare money in the future things like this make me want to not spend it on something that might disappear. At least Magia Record had a legacy mode to view what you had (although not transferrable completely to newer devices), losing everything in Princess Connect was heartbreaking.

Now I didn't know back then that CR had a track record but I still didn't download priconne simply because I hate CR for obvious reasons that I don't need to specify here and didn't want to give them a dime. Although there was a time(after watching the anime) when I regretted not downloading the game when it came out but looking back, I really dodged a bullet by not trusting CR. Played Blue Archive Global since launch (November 2021) and dropped it after a month because I'm mad at Nexon for the unreasonable spike of level requirement in event stages, and my unrealistically gacha results full of duplicates despite having only less than 5 SSRs.... a year after I heard rumors that Nexon are starting to change by listening more to their playerbase and becoming more generous (not only in pyroxenes but they also made lots of SSRs farmable), I decided to go back and now for some reason I'm simping hard at Misono Mika and even played both Global and JP version. Forgive me for that unnecessary story but yea I have high expectations on Priconne because Cygames is involved but Cruncyroll decided to just drop it. Eminence in Shadow Is not really generous and had a terrible rates and daily rewards but I decided to stick because I love the plot and anime itself, but now I'm having second doubt reinstalling it when I got my phone fixed.

It's funny, I played Final Fantasy Record Keeper for 3 or 4 years and when that shut down last year it sucked but it didn't hit me as hard as this, it's probably the strength of the characters like you said, I haven't even watched the anime but Yukari and Mitsuki are just too good. Mitsuki barely shows up in any events probably because Kotono Mitsuishi is too busy or something, but I was excited to see she finally got her 6 star upgrade in Japan and even though it was 3 years away I took a mental note of it. I wonder if maybe they needed to pay a continuous licensing fee to CY for PriConne… Because I have a hard time imagining that this game would be losing money just from ongoing costs (okay, to be fair, I'm on JP and always have been, so maybe it's not as popular here?) If I'm running a business, I would feel hesitant to cut off anything that is not literally in the red, since, first, it might be temporary, and second, you pay in brand recognition and customer good will, as mentioned. So unless if they need the resources for something else, or their management has some super short-term KPIs (or just bad), I have to imagine that they're actually losing money, potentially sizable, to this. That said, it still feels weird that a game that is still doing quite well in JP would just fail so quickly…

I played Princess Connect! Re:Dive probably for a couple of months at some point, can't really remember when this was, but I took a long break from it and only recently came back just for a little bit when one Twitch streamer who I follow on Discord wanted to try out the game, and that reminded me "Oh yeah, I could check it out for a bit.". As a side note, it might tell something about the duration of my break that I had enough stuff in the in-game mail that I was able to do about 300 pulls on a banner when I returned. There was about 45k worth the gacha currency if I recall correctly. Maybe it's because I wasn't active in the game for such a long time that this doesn't personally hit me so hard but I can certainly understand that players are sad and upset. There are some characters who I liked, and earlier today I even went back to the game so I could record probably about an hour or so worth of video of the game so I'd have at least something to remember from it when it's gone. Just because I'm not as heart broken about the end of service as active players are doesn't mean I can't imagine how they are feeling right now. All I'd have to do is to imagine my currently active gacha game, Arknights, facing the same end and I can absolutely imagine how I'd feel about it. I've been playing Arknights for over 3 years (started at the end of January 2020, a few weeks after global launch), and I don't think I've played any other gacha game where I remember as many playable characters by their names (including Azur Lane, which I played for several years before I got burnt out from the end game, and soon after found Arknights) as I do in Arknights. Not just their names but their traits, talents, skills and in some cases some of their information from their profiles or voice lines. For a few of them I even remember when or how I got them, or even how many pulls I did for them. If I was being told Arknights was shutting down (the global version) then it'd be like suddenly losing 3+ years of my life. Not just that but I'd be losing the excitement I had for the upcoming events and content, and I'd have less to talk about the game in some communities I've found out thanks to the game. Yeah, it's not like I'd have to leave those communities even if that happened but communities can make games so much more fun when you are aware of other players who are into same things as you are. I don't doubt I might find another gacha game I'd start playing as my main gacha game but out of all the gacha games I've played or tried out, I'd say Arknights is probably my favorite. The point is that I believe I can imagine how the Princess Connect! Re:Dive players might be feeling now. No one wants to lose something they have spent a lot of time and effort into over a long time period. It's sad news and I don't really have any words to offer that might make those players feel better. I know any live service game can't last forever but that doesn't make it any easier when a game you greatly enjoy gets EoS notice. I don't really have anything else to say so I'll just leave it here.

Priconne being shut down is hurting me much more than I thought it would. I grew so attached to the characters, and I put so much time and effort into the game I had to take a break. And yesterday when I finally decided to come back, I see the EoS thing. I'm not one to hate, but I hate Crunchyroll now. I just hope the game gets picked up by a more competent company (AND that we get to keep our progress, since today I got all the limited characters from the Comeback Gala). I don't think I have a way to get the JP version, and even if I did I don't understand Japanese, and it's likely I wouldn't be able to keep my progress. All cygames gachas are like this, the generosity had nothing to do with it really. If anything that isn’t related to crunchy roll (which I’d argue Cr is the main factor here) is the fact that it was one of the very few gachas that the en had an almost two-three year gap of knowing what’s ahead and saving for specific super meta things. Very uncommon now a days for gachas. Also genshin is really more f2p than people give it credit for on a consistent patch to patch basis. Especially with banner rotation changes

Gameplay was so boring and not challenging enough (technically not Crunchy's fault), but knowing who's running the EN server was the nail in the coffin. A friend of mine who works for the company told me rumors circulating of the shutdown after one year cuz it wasn't "earning enough". Oh and saying that, it's exactly what you said, shareholders and top brass want to see "consistent growth" which...yea that's not how gacha works. Ya got rise and dip, typical of how gacha works. But true to how American companies run games (looking at you Activision), they want a massive cash in, and then bail when it's not making money day by day.

Figured I'd add a minor correction about one of the vaulted games, Grand Summoners. The game is still alive with 0 involvement from Crunchy Roll. It's been a joke on the GS discord for a while that GS was the only game to survive CR, and that still stands true. I don't know if CR is just bad at managing their games or if they just have predatory contracts with the companies, but when GS and CR were partnered back in 2019-2020 a lot of units got rushed because they were highly anticipated.

Cygames recently dropped another one of their big global gachas late last year being Dragalia Lost (Nintendo x Cygames), which makes me worried for all other Global Cygame gachas that are still running. Also Cygames still has the JP server of Priconne running and they always seem to make their gachas and care more directed towards the JP audience anyway.

Priconne was definitely fun. I played it for about six months pretty casually. I've played a lot of mobile gacha games over the years so here's my take on this. The two year cycle is typically for cheap gachas. Companies spit them out like clockwork every two years after shutting the old one down in order to milk whales. It's best to avoid them and stick with notable titles from reliable companies like Epic Seven. That said, Priconne did not seem like it would suffer that fate. While it wasn't making a lot of money it seems like the shutdown came early due to the economy. EVERY company worldwide is taking measures to weather this terrible economic period. This has hit the tech and entertainment sectors especially hard. Personally, I'm taking a break from mobile gacha games this year. They are addictive and time consuming. I may give Valiant Force 2 a try because I like the dev studio but that's it.

I actually used to play magical record I made it all the way to chapter 5 before the actually closed the game down and it was disappointing because there were 10 chapters in the game and I finished the first season of the game and I was never able to play season 2 of the game and that was just after the anime for season 1 ended. I got into the game and the anime was really good

Princess Connect has such a great story to be honest and I am sad to see it go. DanMachi Memoria Freeze is still around luckily but I can't play it since my devices can't handle sadly. It seems my phone can but it hears it up a lot. Oh well At least they had more of a heart than the Date A Live Gacha Game that went radio silent for month and only came back to say they shutting down but then again they announced it on Pecorines birthday of all things and not even outing it on life support

Honestly this was my first time ever getting involved in a crunchyroll game. (Outside of FGO) Luckily I never spent money with Priconne. I was broke so I couldn't. (I would have if I could) I came over from Granblue and I literally waited years for a translation of the game because I was so curious about it thanks to the events. Now all this is doing for me is convincing me that I need to learn Japanese and/or get translation software because from this point on. I am not giving the time of day to Crunchyroll on any front. This year was gonna be the year where it was gonna be big and so many fun units would have come out. And the FUNNY thing is they would had so many whales/dolphins/etc going buckwild and the whole money issue wouldn't be an issue then. All i can take away this is that whoever is the CEO of Crunchyroll is a massive idiot. It's one thing if a game can't be saved but to pull the plug unexpectedly out of nowhere is extremely bad bed manners. I am angry it's closing but more upset that it was done in a very discourteous way. Most times you can tell when a gacha is failing. There's signs everywhere and the fact there were signs that Priconne would have had a good future and they still closed it. Is the most mindboggling thing. If they didn't vault the other games then priconne would have been fine. So I agree 100% Crunchy did this to themselves and they must lie in that bed. I feel bad for the workers involved but not the ones that made the decision. Evidently they are stupid and I am not saying this only because I am sad a game I really liked is closing. Just logically they are very stupid. And the higher ups deserve everything about to come to them.

Kinda sad though. To be honest, the playerbase is relatively small compare to JP. I can see how my less than 10 member clan in global is in 2k in ranking while my 30 member clan in JP is ranked in 4k. I wish they really carry it even longer, but 2 years gap is kinda big. I wish Cygames managed the global game by themselves instead of putting on others.

i have heard about CR games before, but i think with how much priconne has been very beloved series and track record that 5 years in JP and it's still going strong and 5 other regional servers are doing fine, the game would be too big to fail. or at least the business people should be aware of the consequence of "hey look, all the other regions of this game are going strong, you cant shut this down" it was not like the gacha/online game cannot shutdown, but they should get conclusion before it shutdown to make a game complete and everyone can bid it farewell in good spirit. and we know priconne have at least 3 more years of content waiting for us that we will never live to see is just sad. oh well, good thing now they will learn that shutting down priconne without a good reason will literally cost them their whole business. CR games is dead to me. i'll never play any other CR games ever again. not because of they decide to shutdown a game, but because if they cant make priconne (with all fanbase and positive perks that come with it, this was suppose to be an easy mode) work, they probably cant make any other games work, ever.

This has for sure hit a lot of people emotionally. Sadly, I was used to it at this point, but people put real time and devotion to the game. It's ridiculous.

FGO is only an 'oddity' because it has a larger fanbase + it is more difficult to obtain characters. NA received the pity system early sure, but it's still more costly compared to Priconne. Priconne showered you with jewels. I stopped playing Priconne for months. When I came back and I was able to pity NY! Kyaru. The game is very F2P friendly, but it definitely translates to lower sales.

Normally a difficult gacha is a death nail, but Fate has a massive franchise fueling it hype daily. They definitely hit something that is almost unrepeatable..

The one nice thing about fgo when it comes to getting saint quartz in a F2P experience is that you don't need to roll multiple copies of characters like you might in other gacha games. You get one copy of an SSR servant, usually that is enough. They also don't make old servants obsolete by pushing heavy powercreep like some gachas out there. To top it all off, it is possible to borrow units from whales that can beat some hard fights by themselves in the story.

This video literally saved me money and a ton of time. I was thinking about playing some of CR's games given the great anime series they have but knowing this background, and the history of literally hurting their own business / brand without any care for the customers and fandom, hard pass. OS, appreciate the time and effort that was put into this review, it was really well articulated.

Legend of the crypts is a mobile gatcha. That I played when I got into middle school and they were far into content and even till this day they still operate after soo many years. It’s unfortunate some good games fall under horrible circumstances that companies subjugate them to

And then you realize AAA games is also trying to do that with the "always online" thing they're putting on single player games... there's also Ubisoft that just practically made a lot of their old games unavailable... sooo it's not only games that relies on a server that is in danger of getting shut down.

So you don't play any games, alright. Because almost every game except for AAA and single player console games, have a server.
