Beautifully done. My dad worked at Disneyland when this happened. He told me about it when I was a teen. It was the last show. He said that her hair was too close to the walls when they started to move. When she was pulled in you could hear her screams. She was totally crushed. She went to school in Santa Ana and my dad lived in Garden Grove, which is right by Santa ana.He showed me a picture of her with long hair. After this happened staff had to wear their hair tied back and they had to sit away from the moving walls as the show was in progress. I've always had long hair so I'm keenly aware of it getting caught up in moving parts/machinery. Debbie’s loss will never be forgotten 😥

Just a couple years ago my family went to Disney world in Florida and they have a ride similar to this with the same spinning building but it was about the presidents of the US. It was about half of my family in there with us and my dad had my 6 month old nephew who was screaming and crying the entire show. He had no idea of this sad situation but he got up when the seats weren’t moving and carried my nephew out the back emergency exit so people could you know enjoy the show. And staff members like surrounded him outside the building yelling at him threatening to kick him out and told him someone died like this.

I, too, had long hair and graduated in 1974. My question is, since she was a hostess, why was she back near the moving parts? Wouldn't she be near the doors? This is why in recent decades, you have to be 21 to be around anything with moving parts, like trash compactors, etc. Tragic.

Wow I. So sorry because I can’t imagine he ever forget it and yet sounds with the hair like an accident waiting to happen. I think as well if I’m correct that hair in a ponytail was said to have been partially responsible for a whale trainer getting pulled over and drowned

for the raft death.. i cannot believe they did not have headcounts before and after visiting the island... i feel that simply safety feature would have at least had crew looking for them much earlier...
@lauraanderson8785

Yeah, I do believe that headcounts should be mandatory for things like this. There have been other tragic cases that could have been prevented by headcounts... There was a case where a married couple had booked a ride with this tourist thing where they drove them on a boat to the sea to scuba-dive. The boat's staff forgot about the couple who were still scuba-diving and drove back to land, they didn't do a headcount so they had no idea that they had left customers out at sea. The couple died. Edit: Their names were Tom and Eileen Lonergan, in case anyone is interested in reading more

I’m honestly surprised that _that_ wasn’t the foundation of the parents’ case against Disney. Surely that’s a much more convincing argument because it’s a safety measure that the park should have taken but didn’t. It seems like common sense to make sure you have the same amount of people when you leave the island as you did when you arrived, and doing so would have prevented this death.

I have a close family member who works at Disney World. I won't say which area, but he does the voice of a trendy cartoon movie character in one of their digital shows. He has told me, in detail, how Disney trains their employees. He is a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant, and believe it or not, he said the "Mindset" training they do (yes, that's what some managers call it) could rival some of the training he received in the Marines. Also, he told me about an incident when a young girl passed out in front of one of the shops. One of the shop employees (can't remember gender so I will use they/them) knew it was most likely heat exhaustion. Hence, as they waited for medical help, the shop employee brought her into the shop, took three t-shirts off their hangers, soaked them in water, laid them on the little girl, and got her to sip water to help cool her down. The medical team praised the shop employee and said doing what they did probably saved her life and or saved her from potential brain damage. Guess how Disney rewarded the employee. Disney fired them because they didn't follow proper emergency protocol. The young girl's family was furious, and they formed a large group that started to make noise over the treatment of the hero employee. Well, Disney hates terrible publicity, so they paid the summer employee for the rest of his three-month contract and then swept it under the rug as much as possible.

The case of the two brothers has always upset me. Not because of Disney’s “negligence” but because of the parents. How could you not notice your two kids were gone for hours after the park had closed, hell for a WHOLE NIGHT! The way they tried to blame it on the park and the book pisses me off. The fact they weren’t investigated for child neglect pisses me off even more. There is no excuse to not notice your children are missing for that long. What horrible, irresponsible parents. If they want to blame someone for their child’s death, the ones they should be looking at is themselves.

My sister had something similar happen! I was ~12 and she was 9. She was too small to go on a ride at universal, but they let her on anyways. She was a tall but very thin kid. The seat belt mechanism was way too loose on her but the staff didn’t notice her. I was sitting next to her and when the ride started started slipping out!! I grabbed onto her with all my might and managed to keep her in her seat that she had half slipped out of under the bar. Super scary! She was also able to cling to the bar, but if we hadn’t both been holding on she would have fallen out for sure. This ride did upside down loops! It was one of the scariest times of my life knowing I’d have to keep her from falling on multiple loops yet to come, and the ride operator didn’t notice her falling out!

I fell at DisneyWorld October 2020 causing a huge gash over my left eyebrow. A couple immediately put dressings on my head, and security was there in about three minutes. Paramedics were there in less than 8 minutes to put me on a gurney where they took me thru a seceret gate leading just outside the park (we were at Hollywood Studios). I was transported to a local hospital, great care at the ER, stitches, Disney covered all the costs, and provided free transportation back to their hotel. Everything was efficient, and quietly handled. They even did the same thing the next day when I fell again (masks were causing lots of falls due to humidity and fogged glasses), breaking my collarbone. Their care is wonderful. Their concern is in not causing kids to be upset or grossed out. if you consider the millions of people who have visited the parks and worked for Disney, losing fewer than 70 people to accidents is remarkable.

let's not forget that Disney is a huge corporation. It's great that YOU had a good experience but likely, they were worried you would sue since you got hurt on their turf. they do not care about people and they never will, i think that is made incredibly apparent by the last case in this video. they didn't want you to sue. let's not pretend they're good people with good hearts. just the fact they handled your situation so quickly proves that shit like this happens a LOT more than the public is privy to.

As a former Disney cast member, these videos are always a bit hard to get through because so many of those “Did you know these 10 weird rules at Disney?” Articles are mostly wrong (I’m not blaming Eleanor!!). So the whole time I’m like no that’s not a rule or that’s not quite right. Yes, you do go through training where the talk about the history of the company and how you’re now a part of that history but it’s not like this super intense brainwashing thing and I’ve never talked to another cast member that thought it was. Emergency vehicles are 100% allowed to come in if they’re needed, what I think a lot of people don’t realize is that there’s so much “backstage” area behind everything that vehicles can get around to where they need to be without being visible to guests most of the time. And the “no one dies at Disney” thing is very much just a rumor. I also don’t think a lot of people know just how many people unfortunately commit suicide in the parks, one of my friends first day out of training had someone kill themselves in the parking lot… Lastly, the America Sings incident is so sad. If you look up the history of the ride/show building, it used to be the Carousel of Progress attraction and the seats would rotate clockwise around the stages. For some reason the reversed the rotation to counterclockwise for America Sings and that’s the reason some people theorize Debbie got crushed because she was in the gap between the stages and couldn’t see the walls of the stage coming behind her

Speaking of cruise ships, a few years ago, my family and I went on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean Sea. While it was overall a great experience, on our last night, I think the ship was speeding to reach the final port on time. My cousin and I were trying to get to a part of the ship where we'd been the past couple of nights, but the quickest way to get there was by crossing the top deck. As we climbed up there, there were no people around and it was so fucking windy that we could barely stand in place. The door we were trying to reach was maybe 15 or 20 steps away, but we could barely take 2 or 3 steps before the wind got so strong that my cousin and I had to get down on our knees and try to hold on to whatever was nearby. We instantly got scared and decided that we should get back to the door we came from and take the longer route to the other side of the ship. I'm not kidding when I say, that wind could have actually easily blown us off the ship if we were standing closer to the main side rail. I've seen videos of people struggling to walk on normal streets on extremely windy days, but to really experience that on the top deck of a fast-moving ship at night, surrounded by dark open water for miles, fucking nightmare fuel! So, while I don't know if a wave could take someone off a cruise ship, I'm pretty sure that strong winds can do it.

You should cover the accident that happened at Dreamworld in Australia. It was only back in 2016 and I think the legal proceedings are done now but it went on for ages. It was absolutely horrific what happened. People died on a water ride, their raft flipped and they got caught in the tack and the raft behind them. I believe someone was decapitated or something but the injuries and scene was so horrific according to first responders. The ride is closed now.

I used to work at Disney World last year, as an attractions cast member (aka ride operator). The ride I worked at is one of the most dangerous rides, not necessarily because it’s dangerous as a ride itself, but because it was so easy for people to not understand how dangerous it would be to disregard the safety precautions. Personally, I was constantly afraid someone would not listen to my safety instructions and get hurt. In the case that any unsafe situation arose, we had specific instructions to do whatever we could so help the person in danger. We also were required to alert the local ambulance services in certain cases (I had to do that once). Anyway, all of this is to say that we’re very big on safety!

Yep. This is one of the reasons I would never go on a cruise or travel alone. Places like cruise ships and airports are known for being places where kidnapping and s** trafficking happen a lot. It’s also not a good idea to trust women or children who are alone. Don’t follow them to help them if they ask for help. Alert security. Do not go with strangers alone anywhere even if they seem non threatening. Kidnappers and traffickers often use “non threatening” people like a lone woman or children to lure victims.

Wonderful video as always! The Debbie Stone case is absolutely heartbreaking and I'm glad you covered it. Small clarification on what you mentioned about Disney allegedly not allowing emergency vehicles in the park. That's not true and I know this from personal experience. I had a medical emergency in Disney World where I collapsed in front of the castle, I was taken to an air conditioned waiting area (still in public spaces) to wait for paramedics. When they arrived they decided I should go to the nearest emergency room, so put me on a stretcher and wheeled me through fantasy land (in front of other guests) in order to get me to the waiting ambulance back stage. Yes, they do care very much about the safety of their guests from my own experience. Would they prefer to have probably kept me backstage? Probably but that's likely less for 'killing the magic' sake and more for my personal privacy sake. (heard this directly from cast members and the paramedics who were incredibly apologetic to me as they wheeled me through crowds. ) Granted, I cannot say this is true for every instance, and every Disney park, but from my own experiences they actually hesitated to have me taken to the emergency room since they wanted to be able to ensure I would be able to enjoy the rest of my day at the park if possible, and when triage at the park deemed it not possible, THEN they had me taken off property.

As soon as you said animatronics, my mind jumped to FNAF. Despite FNAF's deaths happening mostly inside the animatronics, it is a spring-crushing mechanism that kills the original children in the story, so I couldn't help but link it to this case. I hope Debra's family found some solace knowing Disney had new safety protocols after what happened - but, honestly, if it was my loved one I don't think I'd have peace as long as that show was still operating. It must have been awful for them, knowing that the same thing that killed their daughter lasted longer than a decade, being visited by other families every day. About the video itself, excellent quality as always! So much respect, information and great storytelling. I love your work, Eleanor, and I absolutely want to watch more dark Disney videos, both in Freaky Friday and in a true crime series, if you are willing to make them! ❤️

Ended up searching for more about Rebecca and turns out she was in a lesbian relationship with another staff member on board. This staff member was Tracie Medley. Tracie and Rebecca apparently had a very passionate romance, however Tracie had a boyfriend who was on shore leave at the time. Upon him coming back on board, the two of them resumed their romance which sparked intense feelings of sadness and betrayal in Rebecca. Tracie also revealed that Rebecca had experienced a lot of trauma throughout her life that resulted in her using cocaine, something that, like her being a lesbian, her family neglected to mention or just didn't know about (though Rebecca commented about her family being ashamed of her being gay). Rebecca frequently made comments about how she was weak for not just jumping overboard and according to Tracie she had actually attempted suicide in the past. The night of her disappearance Rebecca initiated a threesome with Tracie and her boyfriend, Deven Hyde, which Tracie remembers being excited about and saw it as her letting go of her emotions for a bit. Afterwards, however, she told Tracie that they needed to leave and she refused, resulting in Rebecca leaving alone in Deven's clothing which was oversized on her. The two left the door unlocked, expecting Rebecca to return but upon waking up in the morning, realizing the door was still unlocked and discovering that she never showed up to work, Tracie knew what had happened. Maybe something more happened that night that Tracie did not reveal, however it is believed that she committed suicide that night most likely due to past traumas and Tracie not being as committed to their relationship as she was, which Tracie said she had expressed being upset with before. It took Tracie 6 years to come out about this story. Just thought I would add because I found this extremely interesting when I found it and it definitely reveals a lot that even her family was overlooking.

The responsibility of the incident with Bogden & Dorian certainly belongs to Disney. The raft operator should have done a head count b4 leaving the island. If not then, the headcount of guests entering & exiting the park. That is 2 different chances Disney had to prevent this from occurring. As we can see in old photos, Disney put guests at risk on many occasions. Unfortunately, it's not 'til tragedy strikes that changes are made.

Disney isn’t responsible imo as much as I hate the company part of Disney. The ride goes back and forth with people coming and going at different times. It’s near impossible for staff to do a headcount for something like that. The kids broke a rule, stayed behind, and one of them died because of it. It’s the PARENTS fault for leaving them unattended and not noticing their kids were missing for HOURS. How do you not notice your children are missing for a whole night?! That’s child neglect and an investigation should’ve been raised to look into the family. There’s no excuse to not notice your kids are missing for that long or to not report it.

Yas do a part two! I love dark Disney I always think it's interesting how they like try to either cover stuff up or how things happen

Its horrible how these things happen to the best people, you never hear a tragedy happening to someone awful, its always people like Debbie who were friendly and ambitious
