Since 1984, North Korea has fired off more than 270 missile launches and nuclear tests. 25% of these were in 2022 alone, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies. In 2022, Kim fired more missiles than any other year on record, at one point launching 23 missiles in a single day.
He was widely expected to be a reformer - so how did Kim Jong Un end up following in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather? Why is Kim now seen as one of the world’s most ruthless & dangerous leaders, one who holds the potential of starting a nuclear war in his hands?

North Korea has been under sanctions for the longest time ever- many people died because the west inflicted horrific economic repression- therefore the fact that they have developed nuclear technology under extreme hardship is a technological and social leap beyond imagination.

Not really. The government has plenty of financial resources. Stop conflating the average Korean suffering under the yolk of Kim and his ilk with the DPRK as a political entity that is directed by its ruling class with Kim at the top of the hierarchy. Do a bit more research and stop trying to make people think that their rogue behavior is somehow overcoming tremendous adversity of some ignorant nonsense as Kim enjoys palatial splendor while the bulk of those who live in the North are impoverished and isolated from the broader world.

The U.S. has rejected North Korean legitimacy for 73 years, and the justification is almost always that it’s a dictatorship with human rights abuses, which is true. But for many, many years, South Korea was also a dictatorship with human rights abuses. Up until around the early 1990s, when South Korea began to democratize, the United States didn’t want to recognize North Korea because that would give it legitimacy, and probably undermine the South Korean dictatorship [which the U.S. saw as a bulwark against the spread of Communism].

USA is not the only nation in the world. It doesn't matter if USA declared war against North Korea or not. USA don't have authority to decide what can be defined as a war or a conflict for rest of the world. If any nation involved with the Korean War calls it a war, then it is war for them.

@@davidjacobs8558 It does matter if USA declares war against North Korea, David- because if they do, China is obligated by treaty to come to North Korea’s defense. The treaty states if North Korea is invaded, China will be there for North Korea……however, if North Korea invaded another nation (South Korea), then North Korea is on its’ own. Best read history before blabbing, Hoss- it was A REASON it is referred as a CONFLICT because as like the world armies joined to reverse the invasion of Iraq into Kuwait, Korean Conflict was an UN charted military intervention. Guess you skipped that part of your research for some reason.🙄
