This is more than a song. James chased away the monsters with this song. Because of the song a distant cousin heard it and gave his father a kidney transplant that matched. It is a lovely tribute to his father. It expresses all the love and feelings that he had for him. This song has helped so many people heal through the years of their own pain. If someone doesn't cry through it they are cold as ice. ❤❤❤

Yes, that is his real Dad in the video. At the time his father had stage 4 kidney disease and was dying. Luckily after the song came out a doner was found and Mr Blunt Snr is still going strong. Great reaction and don't worry, we've all cried to this song.

As someone who lost their mother to the same thing, I can attest that it was the hardest seven years of my life. To watch your parent wither away, slowly. I think I cried around three times a day for her last two years on this earth. She lived with me, so I literally watched her die. I hurt every day. Nothing can describe the pain. It's like being split in two. But she's out of pain, and she's reunited with my father and hers, so I find solace in that.

My mother had a massive heart attack during the pandemic and I wasn't allowed to be with her in the hospital. I first heard this song for the first time during the time and it broke me. We've been through so much together, survived so much. Growing up, we were very poor, and my mother was a single mother. I remember me and my siblings pleading with my mother to eat dinner with us, but she would always insist that we eat seconds because she didn't want us going hungry. Knowing the sacrifices she made for us, as well as growing up and being able to help her once we were old enough to work. I'll never be able to explain the sense of profound joy that comes from being able to relieve that type of stress from someone who has fought so long to keep you safe. Luckily my mother survived the heart attack, but for about 5 days we weren't sure, and the nurses told me how she would sit in her room and cry because she was alone. She was always there for us when we were sick or in the hospital, so it was an added emotional pain to know she had to go through it alone.

Every man needs to take this musical journey and feel at the most fundamental level what love is between father and son. Something you can't know until that last breath. To love someone for a lifetime and have him disappoint you at times, be less than truthful at times, to appear sometimes to be a little selfish at times has no meaning at all at that moment, it has no place in your heart, because its just just you and him and a bond that you could never really know until then.

Sad? Yes. But so much more than that. I watched my father die from cancer. And this song reminds me of that time, both the sorrow and the maturity that came from it. Being able to have that conversation with my father was so healing and so beautiful. Now my goodbye with my father was not nearly as articulate and dramatic as this song, but it was just as beautiful, to me. Knowing that my father and I had no unfinished business, that we had mutual respect, and that we had let go of the hurts from the past, that was so meaningful and powerful. I hope anyone hearing this song is reminded to let those they love know how they feel, set aside grievances over petty differences(and even not so petty ones), because the time will come for us all when "the time has gone."

James wrote this song for his father when he was dying of kidney disease. None of their immediate family was a suitable donor to help him. That is his father in the video which they recorded in one take. A suitable donor was found for transplant and as of 2021, James' day was alive and well.

Don’t worry about crying or holding in tears! This song makes any human with a soul (especially adults of all ages) tear up to cry their eyes out! I was somewhere in the middle and am an early 80s baby in early 40s who is super close with my dad in early 70s. Also a father of two kids 10/7 years old. This is a masterpiece of an emotional gut punch. Video is simple yet touching as well bc you feel James pain. The cover by Iam (during America idol tryout) from his dad who just passed 6 months ago is amazing/sad also. They then did collab live performance on KZfaq 3 months ago that’s sad with Jelly Roll (great artist and “Save Me” tear jerker too) and mom in crowd + so many others crying.
