I heard that James donated all the proceeds from this amazing video to the wonderful UK based charity 'Help For Heroes' who do incredible work to support ex-servicemen and ex-service women. As both James and his dad were former officers in the British military, it was a fantastic gesture and I salute him for that.

I held my mums hand when she died of cervical cancer in hospital and I held my elder brothers hand in the same hospital 7yrs ago as he slipped away too.This track always brings me to tears. RIP Mum and David.

Fortunately after this song got released a distant relative got in touch and was a match for his fathers organ donation.

The video was shot in one take, because James wanted the emotion to be raw and genuine. Yes, its a real story. His father was diagnosed with terminal kidney disease and this was written as a goodbye. Some years ago few days before christmas a time that my loving wife loved with all her heart a horrific car accident took paid to her joy in hospital she lay with horrific injuries she started to make strange noises from her throat i called the nurses to come help me they told me she is going now i said were is she going i dont understand they said michael she is going to heaven i held her in my arms until she took her last breath this song has brought me to tears 😢

I guess it depends on what kind of relationship you had with your father, and if you had a father, as to how you will react to this song. Through most of my teens I thought my father was a monster. It was only later, with age and experience, that I could see somethings through his eyes, and determine that my childhood wasn't as bad as I had made it out to be, and that in his limited way he was trying to provide for his family as best as he could. We all try to do that for our children, and that is all we can do.

I love a lot of James Blunts songs, he connects with you in all his songs. Its similiar to how Ed Sheeran does with his, thats why they are close friends. I reckon Ed has taken some of James Blunts advice, before he become a big selling star. We here in the UK appreciate James but I do still think he is underrated even here. This song only got to number 6 in the UK Charts, ehich is a real surprise, when you consider some of the trash songs we get. Loved your raw reaction to the song and yes it is very emotional to listen too. His Father was told he didn't have long to live, so this was Jame Blunts goodbye song to him. Thankfully his Dad did get what he needed and survived, so its a better feeling knowing that.

Your Dad is a Superhero when you are little, but then, as you get older, and start to become a man yourself, you begin to exit the field of gravity of your parents. You begin to realize that they aren't God's.... They aren't Superheroes. They are flesh and blood, flawed beings, just like you are....and you begin to appreciate not just their greatness, but their flaws too. The point when a man and his son can stand together and relate as two grown men...together, is a beautiful thing... and this in this case, a very touching and emotional thing. I look at this song as speaking about a complicated relationship between Father and Son. Men, many times have conflicting feelings toward their Fathers because the lack of emotion involved in their relationship and not knowing what to expect from one another. A Mother shares a love for her Children as strong as a Fathers but a very different dynamic. For the Mother the bond begins before birth. The Mucho Macho stuff is involved and all that..My Husband died after 26 years of marriage. He had a horrible relationship with his Dad. I never even said that out loud to him.His wanting to impress him went on and on and on. My Husband and I moved to the MidWest from the West Coast. We would visit. They would visit. That is what it was like.. Just 2 Grown Men Saying Good-Bye..He so wanted more. My Husband never got it. He died at 47. I found myself hearing this song from that perspective.
