This one got me. I felt her when she was talking about her dad. And her being the middle child. And the beatings. My biological father use to beat me and my brother never my sister who was the baby. I was the middle child and my brother was the oldest. My bio father also beat my mother everyday. He was a raging alcoholic and drug addict. He never worked. My mom worked 3 jobs a lot of the time. Whe lived in an 8x35 camper trailer on an Indian reservation in NM. We had no electricity or running water. My mom hauled water in 2 55 gallon drums. We got a bath once a week. We we shit in a bucket and I was severely bullied and so was my brother. I was 14 and came home from school on day and my mom had left. She had to leave or he was going to kill her. So my bio dad had our trailer moved to my families farm. Where my aunts and uncles and cousins all lived. He use to beat my brother so bad. One time I had started my period at school and my biological fathers girlfriend had to bring me some clothes to school. And all my brother did was ask her what she was doing. And omg that night my bio dad made me watch him beat my brother for over an hour in the bathroom slamming his face into the toilet the bathtub and the sink. To the point my brother could not open his eyes or his mouth. I blamed my self and still do because I had started my period at school. He made my brother go to school the next day and tell everyone he was jumped by Indians. For 2 days wars my life was pure hell. I caught my brother trying to rape my cousin. And I had to run and tell my aunt and my cousins dad who was my cousin but I called my uncle. My brother ran away. Bio dad was not home at the time. When he showed up I was under my aunts table scared out of my mind he was going to kill me. Because I had to tell on my brother. I didn’t want to tell because I knew what that meant for my brother who was 17 at the time. Well bio dad showed up found out what had happened found out I had told. So he was hunting me down with a gun and a belt. I was so scared I was 15 I knew I was about to do e if he got ahold of me. I was still under my aunts kitchen table I had wet and shit my pants shaking I was so scared. I heard him yelling and he got closer a closer to her house. I hear her click a shot gun and hear her say get the fuck of my property or I will blow your brains away. He said give me my daughter. She said over my dead body. He got in his car and left. That was one of the last times. Seen him. My aunt got in contact with my mother and told her she needed to come get me and my sister or we were going to have to go into foster care to get away from my bio father. I remember for 3 days sleeping in the bed with my aunt and the gun waiting for my mom to get to us. We only got to take a grocery bag full of our belongings. It was the first time in 2 years I had seen my mom. We got to the meeting spot for my mom to pick us up. We left the farm and was in the floor board of my aunts truck and a mile down the road we passed my bio father he was headed to the farm. They got the s to my mom we got in the car and drove 28 hours to Nashville TN this was 2 weeks before my 16th birthday. My life changed for the better we were in hiding for 4 years. I have an amazing step up dad who has been nothing but a perfect dad. He has shown me how a dad is suppose to love a daughter. My brother stayed behind and continued to live with my bio father. Who was still beating on him until the day my brother died 6/06/1996 by a drunk driver. I really think it was God calling him home to get him out of the abuse. That has been the only time I have seen my bio father since we left in 1992. I was going into my Junior year of high school. In 2008 my sister was diagnosed at the age of 30 to breast cancer. All the surgeries she had to have she got hooked on pain pills and became a drug addict. I watched her for 5 years just go further and further down hill. And she had 2 beautiful sons. On her oldest sons 16th birthday 3/11/2013 she passed away to a drunk g overdose. So I have lost both my siblings. My life has not been easy by no means. I have a lot of heart ache and mental illness. But I am happily married celebrating 19 years of marriage this year. We have 2 amazing sons 17 and 13. He is the best husband and daddy in the world. I really got so luck with him. I never knew someone could ever love me the way he does. And it’s not easy for me sometimes with my mental health heartache I go through daily. I hope this lady finds her happiness. I pray she finds her way out. There is someone that will love her the way she deserves to be loved. Sorry this is so long but she hit my heart with her story. Ty for doing what you do with these people. Addiction is a disease and I pray for addicts on a daily basis. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

This is so sad. I grew up with a lot of physical and mental abuse, it’s so stifling and paralyzing. I remember developing all types of phobias and having extreme anxiety. Growing up in pure fear and feeling unloved or like your not enough damages you for life. I have really bad ptsd from the hell I’ve been through but by the grace of god on September 1st I’ll have 8 yrs clean. I’m 48, you can do this girl. Find your happiness, learn how to love yourself and know you are enough!!! Don’t look for happiness in another human being, you will continue to be disappointed, same with the drugs. If no one has told you yet today I love you and keep your head held high, happiness will find you once you find peace within yourself.

The majority of these interviews are so difficult to watch. These people have suffered so much emotional, physical and sexual abuse in their lives it's unfathomable. But one of the hardest things for me to hear is when people say "I just wanted my parents to love me". They're literally asking for the bare minimum from their parents and their parents can't even do that. Utterly heartbreaking

I live right near Kensington. That has shown me why before this podcast unfortunately. If y'all think skid row is bad nope they won't even do any documentaries because you may catch hep just trying. We who care do our best with food and clothes but our govt here does nothing but give needles and narcan. Wound care nurses come when they can but they can lose there job so it's risky. But it's everyone down there. Ages 10-100. All races. All classes. There is a small channel AML that records and helps and put names and time stamps so anyone looking for a family member can at least have someone to ask.

I feel some kinship with Christina. Not only do we share the same name, but we have a lot in common too. My parents never really got along either, and they fought constantly when I was a child. My mother is a narcissistic abuser who manipulates and uses people all the time. I grew up never being able to please her or make her proud just for being me. Nothing was ever enough. It hit me hard when Christina said that she regretted trying to please her parents- although my dad was always accepting of me and loved me regardless of the choices I made in life. But my dad was my best friend, too. Maybe not as cruel as Christina’s at some points, but we were really close and he was always there for me. Tragically I was the one who discovered him last month after he passed from fentanyl poisoning. I never saw it coming and never knew he had a problem. It honestly felt like I lost both parents the day he passed. And my grief is immeasurable. But I hope that Christina can find healing, peace, and happiness too. Life is fleeting and we never get enough time with the people we love the most. But we are both worthy of love- and while it’s hard to convince ourselves of that fact, it IS true. I’m wishing you the best, Christina. And I’m rooting for us.

My brother and I unfortunately had an abusive father, punched and hit since we could walk, he use to make us go to his cupboard , pick out a belt/strap that we were to be flogged with. Our mother did very little to stop it, now I think out it nothing. When we turned 18 it stopped - we were men. Then he treated us different, 360 deg flip. He died with me hating him, something I have to live with, I should have let it go. He taught us a lot of lessons, most important one - not to be like him. Glad he taught me that one I guess.

More people show up in one day than leave in a month. There is a literal border around it, designed to keep homeless people in.

Oh my god. This is my sister, well “half sister” as she describes me, we share the same mother but not father. I am both shocked and confused. I haven’t seen her in years because she left and never came back. As shitty as it is to see her like this, I’m glad to hear her voice and see her alive and breathing. I love my sister from the bottom of my heart, I cried the whole time I watched this video. My heart breaks to see her like this, the Tina I remember followed god and took care of herself and never would have imagined herself like this. I fucking miss my sister THIS is not her, not who she TRULY is. I’ve always looked up to her when I was a child. I wanted to grow up to be just like my big sister. We have matching tattoos for Christs sake. That heart she has on her wrist I HAVE TOO. The last time I saw her was actually when we got these tattoos damn near 3 years ago. I am incredibly hurt by her leaving and never trying to reach out when she needed help the most. She knows how much I love and care for her. My heart aches for my sister, it’s so hard to hear what she has gone through while in California. Unfortunately, I can say that some of the things she was saying about her family and upbringing is untrue. Of course everyone has their own perspective on life, but our mother loves her and has been searching for her ever since she walked out the door… we all have. It pains me to know that she feels like she’ll never get out of the struggles of addiction. I just pray to GOD that she finds strength in her to find help before it’s too late. Tina- if you ever come across this please know but I have been looking for you ever since you left. I just wanted to hear your voice and know that you were okay. I thought that you were a Jane Doe somewhere where I didn’t check. Im so hurt. I don’t have the right words to describe how I’m feeling, all I can do is cry for you sister I wish that you could’ve found the strength in your heart to at least tell me that you were leaving, so I didn’t have to worry about getting a call that you were dead some day. I’ve always loved you and I will never stop loving you. I will always accept you for you are and how you want YOUR life to go. Your baby sister misses so much and I just wish you would get better.

Yes you're loved. Even if it was flawed growing up. We really have a lot in common with family and relationship abuse. My Dad never got over my mom. Was an alcoholic for years. Basically drank himself to death. Memories of him were some good some terrible. People judge addicts a lot but never think about how much they may have in common as far as childhood and abuse. Everyone deals with things differently, but I know how it feels to never be good enough and never feel pretty. Never seem to do anything right. You'll find the right person that really loves you ❤. I finally did after a lifetime of abuse. Focus on yourself and getting clean. Take care of yourself, love yourself. Take any help you can trust to get off the streets and the drugs. Best wishes to you.
