Though it does make me wonder if perhaps there were some people here doing it (or if they just started doing this because of other places having drivers that do this,) but I have noticed over the past year or so that some of the buses have like a retractable white arm thing that swings out across the other lane which for 2-lane streets makes some sort of physical barrier people would have to hit to go past (I mean it seems rather flimsy so I definitely don't think it would stop a vehicle but it could probably do some decent damage. They have also been doing part of a turn whenever they have to turn onto another perpendicular street in order to block off both sides of traffic & let kids out before continuing on through their turn.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. And on back roads, this would work. But like the driver at 1:07, if the bus were to block the road, drivers might try to get around and could hit a kid trying to get off/on. A bus driver in my town blocks the entire road on the back roads. Which is only 2 lanes, and it works.
