A loose bearing in a Cub Cadet hydrostatic transmission requires repair. Procedures for removal, disassembly and repair are covered in this Part 1 video. See Part 2 for assembly, reinstallation and testing.

Another great video Frank but it was kind of hard to see what was being done in the shadows, against the dark jacket with dark gloves. Just a little more light would be helpful! 🙂 Takes time to get that all down but you have some great content so keep it up. I appreciate the simplistic explanations on how to fix something rather than throwing it out and replacing it!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm just getting my feet under me doing these videos, so suggestions like yours are very helpful.

@@woodandmetalshoptime8048Frank I understand but didn't want to vomit out too much! We use to do some teaching videos at the hospital I retired from and went through lots of "feedback." Like I said it will take some time doing and trying different things but it'll come and make your content better. One of the best things we were able to do was to use 2 cameras for close in and wide shots but it then takes a little more time editing. You were explaining the swash plate up higher than the viewer could see and I think I was more frustrated for you! Love the projects and I figure you are up north or in the Midwest to be finding all of those Cub Cadets, my father-in-law had three larger versions with power everything! Unfortunately he has been gone about 20 years but used them with plows, snowblowers, sprayers and gang mowers on their expansive 3 acres in Bloomsburg, PA. Think I could have learned a bunch from him.

iworked hydraulic piston pumps and motors in the Navy; no fun getting the master piston aligned, but once you master the trick, very easy to work on.

I just checked and it's doing it for me, too. It didn't do it for me when it was first uploaded and I previewed it before publishing. Not sure what I can do about it. I'll check and see if I can upload it again. Hmm...

Hello Frank. Watched part 1 and 2. My trans is quiet and zero issues. Just replaced the cork seal. And I noticed. I have a leak coming from one side of that trunion shaft for the squash plate. The side where the control linkage arms go to the control on the side of the hydrostat. Of course the part where you removed it is the part I’m most interested in seeing. I understand there was a small issue with the upload in the video, totally understandable. It’s leaking a drip every few minutes.. so it’s not horrible. But it’s not clean for my driveway or garage. Any tips? Any ways to fix this easily or is it a full tear down like this only? Thanks!
@woodandmetalshoptime8048Ай бұрын
Unfortunately, a tear down and removal of the swash plate and trunnion shaft is required to replace that seal. The service manual has very good and detailed instructions on how to service the unit. Parts are readily available. ccspecialties.org is a good source.

Video one got goofy where the sound played but the video stalled. I wanted a better look at what constitutes the thick and thin sides of the swash plate. In the second video it was out of frame. Mine looks relatively the same on both sides. The manual photo is too blurry to help. Any help?
@woodandmetalshoptime80483 жыл бұрын
Sorry about the video. Not sure why that happened. The difference in the thickness of the swash plate is pretty obvious, at least 1/4 inch difference in thickness between the top and bottom. You have to remove it to see it, you can't tell while it is still installed.

Thanks- I am rebuilding one of these and the motor shaft is very hard to rotate by hand.No spin whatsoever. Pleas tell me your experience. I cannot get the output to rotate when driving input at 1000 RPM. Thanks, Jim
@woodandmetalshoptime80482 жыл бұрын
The most common reason for the hydro to stop working is bad relief valves. You can drive the input but the output (motor side) doesn't move. Another reason is charge pump put on backwards. Valve plates swapped will also create issues. Do you have the service manual? It has lots of good instructions on how to rebuild these. Tough for me to diagnose without seeing it. Here's a link to the service manual in case you don't have it: s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/cubcadets/GSS-1464+1x8-9+%26+QL+Service+Man.pdf

I just watched this great video, Three questions…(1) does the charge pump supply hydraulic pressure for a ported pump for the power steering and hydraulic lift? (2) if the charge pump is installed backwards (180 degrees) will the Hydro still function and move the tractor. (3) could the charge pump be weak and suppling enough fluid and pressure to the main pump and not enough to the power steering and a lift cylinder. My 1772 has this problem
@woodandmetalshoptime8048 Жыл бұрын
The charge pump on a ported hydrostat provides pressure for the power steering and hydraulic lift as well as to the hydrostatic drive. The charge pump on a non-ported hydrostatic drive will only provide pressure to the hydrostatic drive. If the charge pump cover is put on backwards (180 degrees out of proper position) the hydrostat will not work. I've been told (but haven't confirmed myself) that reversing the charge pump cover changes the required input, so you could make it work by reversing the input shaft rotation direction. If the hydrostatic drive is working on your 1772--that is it moves and drives, but your lift and steering don't work then you may have a faulty spool valve inside the dash that is allowing pressure to bypass. Or something else is wrong.

@@woodandmetalshoptime8048 , thanks for this info and your time. I’ve got a hydraulic test kit on the way to test the output pressure. I also noticed the grader in the background of your shop… very cool

Im having issues with my 1811 cub. The deck will lift and power steering works but is weak. Makes a whine when put in forward or reverse but will not move. Fresh fluid and filter. Rear end spins freely. Any ideas?
@woodandmetalshoptime8048 Жыл бұрын
Did it just start behaving this way when you changed the fluid and filter? If so maybe wrong filter? Is it an actual Cub Cadet hydro filter? What fluid did you use?
@willstokes9738 Жыл бұрын
@@woodandmetalshoptime8048 it's been sitting a couple years. It was like that when I got it up and running. I used hy trans fluid and a cub filter. No improvement after fluid change. I'm afraid it's been towed something has broke inside the pump. I have a 125 cub pump on the shelf would parts from it fit this pump?

Sounds like you flipped the swash plate. The back of the swash plate has a boss on one side to limit it's travel. You reinstalled it upside down.
