I run a 50" zt1 as my only mower for a commercial condo management operation. Mow about 22 acres a week with it. Oil change and blade sharpening 2-3x a season and haven't had any issues yet. So far it's been a great machine.

There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

Thanks for the videos. I purchase my CC Ultima ZT1 50" early this spring and I love it. I cut a lot of my lawn at full speed and it does a fine job cutting in my opinion. My prior mowers were a Honda push mower which was super (still starts on the first pull) and an old Craftsman 36" tractor I bought second hand that also was pretty good. My current property us just under an acre and the ZT1 is perfect for me.

Yep- max revs - engage PTO and take off- sure it will shudder a bit. I've had no problem - never had a problem with a belt - had three Cub Cadets including the new zero turn - do about 3 acres - some of it rough- NO ISSUES!

I have the ZT1 54 and I love it this mower is a real workhorse. I cut my 2 acre lawn and the grass road shoulders and a couple of pretty steep ditch banks. The only thing I could even mention is it uses about a gallon of gas per hour of running it hard in the North Carolina southern heat

I purchased the ZT1-50 with the Kawasaki engine at the beginning of the 2019 season. I mow 4-4.5 acres at my home every week During the spring,summer,and fall. When I put the mower away for the winter it had just over 57 hours on it. I have had zero issues with the mower. It cuts great with very few stragglers as long as you keep the blades sharp. I have no vibration issues with mine but I also throttle down when engaging and disengaging the Deck. It’s a great mower and I’d definitely buy it again but with a bigger deck this time lol.

I’ve had mine for over a year I go rough with mine I don’t have any trouble have not even needed an oil/battery change maybe it’s just the user not the maker🤷🏽‍♂️

Third season mowing 1.75 acres with a ZT1 2-3 week, absolutely fantastic machine.

I bought a zt1 50 at the beginning of the year and originally was only mowing 4 yards with it. Now I mow 10 yards and a small business property. The mower does great for me. I’ve only put about 20 hours on it so far and the only bad thing I have noticed with the mower is the blades. They seem cheap and dull pretty quick which seems to leave some grass still standing but after sharpening them it made a big difference in the cut quality. Personally I don’t think it’s the best for how much I use it but it does work and the mower runs great especially for the price. Only thing I would have done differently was buy the zt2 50 if I knew I would be mowing as much as I am now. But all in all I am very pleased with the mower.

You should back off the throttle before engaging the pto, then throttle back up. Throttle down when disengaging the pto also. This reduces the load on the deck and engine. I don’t care what the rep says.

I purchased a Cub Cadet ZT1 on 4/30/2019. The right side hydraulic drive broke with 3 hours of use on the meter. The two local authorized repair centers were so busy repairing Cub Cadets, they refused to take mine. I had to drive 1.5 hours (one way) from home to a shop that would take it. It has been over 5 weeks! and it hasnt been touched yet. I called this morning and they said they were going to get on it. The delay had been due to Cub Cadet's warranty authorization department. They said Cub Cadet normally sends out a replacement drive unit and just has it swapped out. In my case, they dont have an available replacement so they are telling the shop to tear the drive down and let the factory know what they see. DO NOT BUY A CUB CADET. What good is a mower if it is at the repair shop all the time. What good is a warranty if it takes months to get your machine back from a repair. Cub Cadet emailed me asking me to do a review of my new mower on their website. I did. They didnt like the negative review so they said it would not be published on their site. They wouldnt want the public to know the truth. They havent done a thing for me thus far. I asked them to expedite the repair. They said NO. Once they have made the sale, you are not even an after-thought. I actually own a Cub Cadet riding mower and the new ZT1 and I can assure you that I will NEVER buy another Cub Cadet. I will remain quite outspoken on the internet regarding this too so that other buyers wont be in the position that I am in now.

Have had my zt1 50 for about 18 months. 120 hours currently mow about 3 to 4 acres a week. Deck rumbles like it’s got a mild cam in it, love it. I do my own maintenance and repairs haven’t had 1 issue with this mower, it’s been flawless. Don’t underestimate the rigidity of that fabricated deck. (IMO is why it may transfer vibration thru the mower itself) vs stamped decks absorbing it. The fact is it’s Rigid!!!! Go buy a JD. CC should just refund your money.

I upgrade a 2yr old 42” John Deere rider to this mower, added the bagger and I love this mower for my 2.5 acre property, i found when flipping the seat up for whatever reason I now push 1 of the control arms inward forward and it supports the seat perfectly. The bagger lid still needs some sort of stainless cable or a small linked chain added to support it when dumping the bags when their full.

I have the ZT1 with the Kawasaki engine, at 2.5" it deals with K31 quite well, It is tough grass to cut actually

I have 1 1/2 acres. My ZT1 50 is running great. Minimal vibrations. Could this be something that is caused by bad assembly? Just curious cause mine is running fine.

I recently bought a CC Z FORCE SX54. fIrst job was cutting knee high to hip high grass in some places due to a very wet spring here in Northern Ohio. 1 3/4 ACRES. Mower did real good. Problem I had was getting rid of 8 inch piles of cutting after. The Ultima is a lightweight mower.

I have had a Cub Cadet RZT 50 for 13 years. This is the 14th season for it. I just ordered a deck rebuild kit for the mechanical parts. I've had to rebuild the deck because it isn't designed very well and had several weak points. Also had to repair and reinforce the front caster wheel area of the frame. I will admit that I am rough on the machine, have a section of railroad track mounted on the back so I have a bit more traction on my steep yard, which I mow from all directions. I also spent years mowing a 10 acre field for our church to keep it from going to brush. Over all, I'd buy another Cub Cadet, (I hope that is a few years out yet) but I would prefer one with a fabricated deck. and yeah, it helps to be able to mechanic on these, especially if you get a bit rough with it in your mowing.

1:35 is the vibration from unbalanced blades? So when you take off all blades, does it still vibrate?

I purchased a z force s last year and absolutely love it. I prefer the steering wheel over the lap bars. Just my opinion. But looking forward to your follow up video on your ultima. They are bad ass looking mowers!!!

I think the mower you reviewed might be a lemon. Got mine today and it works flawlessly without vibration or any unusual noise. Works perfectly! Maybe mine, delivered on 5-28-20, had the issue you discussed resolved before leaving the production line. It is a fantastic mower and worth every penny. Our 54" does our 4+ acres of lawn and pasture in under 2 hours. What a fun 2 hours it is now. Our lawn mowing went from 5 hrs of drudgery to 2 hrs of fun. The 54" has a long belt run at front right that could really use a dampener but that is the only vibration I can find and it is minor but I plan on a mod when time allows. Best $3k we have ever spent and TSC has a 4% deal on full amount. $100 discount at every holiday etc as well. Doing pasture I run full out with our 24hp Kohler. This thing is fast. Everyone guesses I paid over 4k which I find interesting as well. Very fuel efficient as well. Less than half a tank for our entire homestead.

I purchased a ZTX5 60 and wow a pro commercial mower at close to full speed. Cub Cadet has really stepped up.

I have one of these, in my second season. It has had no issues that weren't caused by my own abuse/neglect. My ground is rough, with tons of rocks. This is the first mower I've used that I believe will hold up long term

Went to pick up a ZTX4 60 earlier today. Called the dealer to confirm they had it, I have done my research and even with the negative reviews I figured all makers have negative reviews plus I like the look of this unit. When I arrived at the dealership, I noticed it was scratched and dented plus the blades were rusty and the bolts on the control board were rusty. This is a brand new unit, I asked the salesman if this was used he responded that it is brand new and they just unpacked it. I told him I am uncomfortable paying for a brand new unit in this condition, he responded that many times they unbox them and they have damage plus he told me what's the big deal, the first time you take it out you are going to scratch it. I once again informed him that when I pay for a NEW unit, I expect a new Unit, not some damaged, rusted unit. He offered to take $100 off the unit, I said thanks but NO THANKS, I suppose I hurt his feelings and so we left. Went up the street to a John Deere dealership and picked up a commercial unit that is more expensive and I thank God this happened because I believe I have made the right choice. The lack of professionalism and the fact that these units come from the factory damaged leads me to believe that I was blessed to walk away from cub cadet!

I just bought one of these 3 weeks ago and the only thing i notice is the front left wheel squeeks. Heard other people that had that problem as well. These mowers are selling like hot cakes this year. My dealer cant keep them in stock.

I have this mower and pretty happy with it, now 100’s of yards under horrible conditions. Alot have been 4-6 ft high tall and overgrown yards at these properties. After cutting hundreds of properties bi- weekly I have Never have had anything go wrong with it, paint has not worn, cleans up well, never even thrown a belt, can easily clean the top deck. Very heavy built for a residential mower and chose due to size to access yards through gates and restricted areas better than a full commercial unit. I do wish it was a bit faster, but overall very comfortable and not “slow”. The mower isn’t advertised as commercial but has held up very well and I don’t see any upcoming issues in the future. I have the zt1 50” with fabricated deck. ( same as shown in video)

You got a bad one I guess. I have a zt2 60” mows five acres a week. Hell I mow woods small oak trees in pines and then goes right back to a clean cut when I go back to grass. 7.5 full blast. I mow on 2.0”. I think it’s operator error here

Do your handles line up? Just curious. I’ve adjusted mine every way possible and one is still about 3/4 of an inch high and forward. Wondering if it’s common across that mower or if I may have a bent arm from the factory.

Shopped around at big box stores. Decided to buy Kubota z231 rated for up to 2 - 4 acres, I have 3/4 acres. I'm very happy with my 42 inch 21.5 kawasaki kubota mower.

I purchased an RZT L powered by a Honda right before these came out. I was kicking myself in the butt because the new ones looked so much better. But it looks like I may have dodged a bullet. The only issue I’ve had out of mine was hitting a large rock and bent a blade. So it was my own fault.

I'm not sure I need a big heavy duty mower. I've been mowing 7 acres in Florida for 15 years with the same 42 in 999.00 dollar Murray rider. The 17.5 one cylinder Briggs still runs good. The transaxel is still good I'm still on my original blade spindles, the deck has lots of holes in it but works. Yes it's bout wore out but lasted 15 yrs and is still kicking. I'm looking at the 2020 arians apex 52 or 60. If the cheap Murray lasted that long the arians should last 50 yrs according to my beer calculation. Good video 🍺

Let us know what the vibration is if you find out. I think either something isn’t tightened down, or something to do with the spindles or blades.

Should I be concerned when my zt2 right out of the gate is misaligned? I pull the lap bar straight back and it pulls one way. The same going forward when both bars are fully extended.

I have had my Big Dog mower 54 inch cut for 6 years with no problems what so ever! Has a Kawasaki FX691V motor with plenty of power.

You mentioned the speed. I’m the same as you when it comes to that. I’d rather adjust the speed to where it sounds like it’s cutting too.

Not gonna lie, I love my ZT1 Ultima. It’s by far the best zero turn I’ve ever owned.

Early cubs were tanks and rarely a problem. When zero turns became popular Cub got on the band wagon but never incorporated high quality components. Spinals assemblies were second rate as were metal thicknesses in most areas. I had a ZTR and sold it within months of ownership...loud as hell and cut was not impressive. Two improvements I did make were to change blades to mulch and high lift blades and changed the seat springs. I ended up buying a Simplicity Stallion made by Ferris and that was the best move I've ever made when it comes to quality, noise level, comfort over rough terrain and a seat with suspension that is the ultimate of comfort. Spend the extra money for a good machine or put up with an inferior product. I mow 5 acres and look forward to the next cutting.

Had my Hustler for over 5 years now,zero problems.

I bought a Cub cadet rzt 50 back in 2008 . I have about 2.5 arces to cut. It's still runs good but the deck is the weak spot on it. I have had to weld the deck 3 different times so far ( the mount to lift the deck broke , and both wheel mounts broke.). Just for the record I have beat the shit out of this mower since I owned it and it's still running and cutting my weeds.

I purchased mine in 2022.. best mower I've had. I'm a woman who likes outdoor work and no non sense. This is a no nonsense mower.

Hey Buddy, is your tensioner pulley bottomed out? I think my belt is too long, my tensioner is bottomed out and if the belt was shorter it would pull the tensioner to the middle of travel and cause the extension spring to have more tension at all times. My tensioner is at bottom of travel, loose belt to when running it causes the pulley to hammer as it runs and pulley is moving. I'm curious where your pulley is positioned? I'm wondering if there's another length belt to fit? I'm gonna call Cub this week to see if they can send another belt to try, I'll change it myself. The dealer did not change my belt just the bearings/spindles and blades and it definitely improved but still can't be right. Thanks

Its not the deck that makes it a residential mower it's the pumps the z-t1 is not serviceable the zt2 is after a thousand hours it's done that's about 10-15 possibly even 20 years for most residential lawn mower applications but it would never hold up running it 5 to 6 hours a day 5 days a week for a commercial business you would burn it up in a summer or two and the pumps cost almost as much as the motor........... The truth it's just a residential mower but it's a nice residential lawn mower

Can you explain what the "for acreage means" Does that mean you can mow that specified acreage before running out of gas? If so why would that be a limiting factor? For me I don't mind getting the gas and refilling. I have a 1980 John Deere riding mower that has a 2 gal gas tank and have under an acre total and I usually have to fill up once for the back yard and once for the front.

I almost bought one of these recently but ended up going with the Hustler Raptor Limited 52". Watching this I am glad that I did. I thought the frame on the CubCadet was catchy and came with lights and also had a fabricated deck. My old regular lawn tractor was a Yardman with a pressed out deck and attempting to repair that after 12 years of use was pretty useless. So having a fabricated deck was a big factor in deciding on my next mower. My neighbor also has a Hustler and he said a big thing for him was many zero turns don't have serviceable drive boxes, where the Hustler you can change the oil and filters on the drive boxes yourself. Not sure about the CubCadet on this point. Both had the Kawasaki engine which is preferable. I went for the limited model for the larger tires, better seat, and flex fork suspension. I'm going to end up installing a LED light bar myself soon. Engaging the PTO on the Hustler is pretty smooth if you ask me. I start it at about 1/4 throttle and it seems to automatically ramp the rpm up pretty smoothly. I mow at maybe 3/4 throttle and it cuts really smooth at a comfortable rate of speed. It could go faster, I just choose not to run it at max. My biggest complaint just starting out is that it mows so fast you barely get any time to get used to it and next things you know the yard is done. I kinda enjoy my time mowing.

I’m looking for my first zero turn mower and fell in love with the look of the ZT1 50. After watching all your vids, thank you for sharing btw, I’m really gun shy about it. I have about 3/4 of an acre so the 50 inch is over kill but I want one so I’m going to buy a zero turn. I am now looking at the Arens as well. It has the 52 fab deck with the kaw 23 horse on it. It just doesn’t look as nice as the ZT1. Any direction and or help would be appreciated by you or anyone else that is knowledgeable about these zero turns. $3,000 is a lot of money for a mower and I finally got the wife sold on it but if it is breaking down all the time she might just divorce me (tongue in cheek, I think...)

You’re not supposed to be past 50% throttle when you engage the PTO, most mowers will act erratically if you do this.

I love our Ultima ZT1! I named it Sunshine (Sunny for short) and I mow with it freaking everywhere in our yard, the pastures, the barnyard, etc. I know he doesn't like the stuff that we call "Miner's Lettuce". No vehicle with wheels likes that stuff. I had to use the winch on our ATV to pull Sunny out of a patch of it because it was just too slippery. I was thinking of maybe temporarily putting an old pair of tire chains on the mower and see if he could get better traction on it. (Even our front end loader with tracks doesn't like that grass!)

I’m in the market for a good zero turn and I swear everybody has something bad to say about every brand I’ve looked up. I really like the Cub Cadet. It looks great, sits comfortable, and the price point isn’t bad at all. The one I looked at is $3,200.00 brand new with a lifetime warranty on the deck. At the end of the day every mower is going to have its good and bad points.

Now only if you knew someone that owned a lawn care business that could mow your grass while you were on vacation. Oh wait he was too busy crappy fishing 🎣

I had a vibration after using mine for a year, spindle went bad. I wasn’t going to wait a Month+ for Home Depot to send it off so I bought new spindle at Ace Hardware for $68 fixed it myself in 1 day. been a trooper ever since... and I mow 15 yards a week!!

I find it odd the dealer said the pto should be engaged at full rpm. I have an older rzt50 and had to replace deck belt twice the day I bought it. Pto disengages when backing and when it engages at full rpm it snaps the belt. I disengaged the safety and turn throttle down before engaging deck, been fine since

Did you check the blades for balance or being bent? Remove them and run the deck and check for vibration?

The cub cadet rep in the video looked like he could care less about a vibrating deck cuz it’s expected. His lack of not caring is unacceptable. Your mower might be sitting up at head quarters like he stated but that’s it, it’s just gonna sit there. Cub cadet is just about selling mowers that cut grass, period. I would’ve gave them the keys & told them to keep them. I never heard of a mower being used just one time a week. Me personally I double cut some times. Thanks for sharing your videos on the cub Cadet but the reliability & customer service gives me red flags. I hope the machine works out great for you.

Get the optional rear fenders from cub cadet to solve your issue if it slings mud.. and they look great

1 year down on my ZT1-50, (only 20 hours on it), and it still does what it is suppose to do and cuts fine if the grass is not real thick and shaggy. The deck may wobble a bit more than most when you hit the pto, but that maybe because the deck is hung on 3 points instead of the normal 4 points. After engagement, I don't experience any excess deck vibration or noise. It just sings along. I think you posed some vid of the pulley's on pto engagement and running a bit, but that does not really mean anything to the viewers. I have never seen a vid by those who say it vibrates a lot that can actually show me that it is vibrating excessively. Even yours looked fine to me as you were cutting the grass. But if you wanted me to hear noise from the deck, well, you were playing music. How can we take you seriously? My is fine. Glad I bought it.

What's gonna wear your spindle bearings is that they dont have grease incerts.

I got gravely proturn 260 and deere 900 series. I have given up on cheaper ztrs gravely hd and deere 700 series or up for happy life. I cut 6 acres lawn and pastures etc. But for like your use the speed bts is much higher and durable hydros and such would save you a lot time and frustrations.

Just replaced my left side spindle yesterday on my ZT1 60-inch deck mower. The Cub Cadet OEM spindles are outrageously overpriced - purchased direct replacements from Amazon. Works fine and runs smooth.

Hi, I just bought my Cub cadet Zt1 54in at local Tractor Supply Company (TSC) in Mckiney Texas last week 8/15/2020 for $ 3355.74 and I noticed it's acting very strange after 2nd use yesterday. It lost cutting power at high speed setting (the rabbit symbol). You can hear the engine sound wanted to die out and the cutted-grasses did not shoot out the right EXIT side strong as it suppose to. At first, I thought I ran out of gas ( b/c there is no gas gauge indicator equipped on this model). I stopped the mower, let it rest while I checked gas level which (which is still full with fresh gas), I then checked oil level and it was was full!!! I restarted the mower and resume mowing but after few minutes, it acted up again when I heard the engine was not humming like it is suppose to. I immediately stopped the mower and set mowing speed to TURTLE sign for SLOW, then the mower perform okay again at this power speed. Please note, I am very quality conscious with every equipment I've been ever owned and this Cub cadet ZT1 54in is one of my biggest quality concern after 2 simple runs (less than 45 minutes per run). Do you think, I can return this machine for the TORO ( much for expensive but more reliable)? 2) 2nd problem I had yesterday was the LEFT Tire got flat! My land has no metal debris and/or sharp objects to punch the the tire. For this problem, I really don't have a clue of the root cause.

My machine ( I've only mowed 3 times 1.5 - 2 acre ) is not having vibrating issue . I think you guys are being nitpicky . My old mower was a Yard Machine tractor . Perhaps you should mow a few times with that . Then go back to this one .

I went to a Cub dealer (that sells many other brands too) to get a quote on one of these ZT1s. He keep trying to up sell me on a larger ZT2 because the ZT1 wouldn’t be sufficient. It’s only about 2 to 4 acres. I’ve been mowing that peace of land with a 30 year old John Deere 160 hydro lawn tractor with a 38” deck for 5 plus years. Why is that holding up then?

Had a cub cadet actually two of them because they replaced one. Both were garbage never again!

Here’s my personal experience with Cub Cadet. I paid over 10 grand cash for one of their premium products. I mow about six acres on my land and it never finished mowing one time without breaking down. The dealer was at a loss after picking it up three times to find the issues. I requested my money back. The dealership got zero support from Cub. Only when I got the Attorney General of my state involved in the matter did I get my money back. My local dealer dropped their whole line and has never sold them since. Personally, you couldn’t give me one for personal use. Any manufacturer can build a turd from time to time but them not standing by their products is unacceptable.

I like to Cadets the one I have is a Troy-Bilt made by the same company MTD and it does awesome

I have a RZT 50 that I bought the spring of 2007 and it has the Kawasaki engine. I change the fuel filter, oil and filter beginning of every spring. I have a acre yard to mow and I have used most premium gas you can buy since I bought this mower. I have never had to replace anything but the belts and a couple front tires and that was my fault from banging them into our landscape limestone borders. I bought this property in the winter of 2006 and I called a friend from another state that his own landscape and mowing company. I asked what kind of mower to buy and any other advice he said make sure you buy one with a Kawasaki motor and use the most premium gas and change the oil frequently. I have done all that and 15 years later my cub cadet is as good as the day I bought it. I do keep the air filter clean and change the spark plugs every few years. I would buy another again I bought it from Home Depot and it was $2800 or $2900.

I am looking to pull the trigger on a ZT2 50 and excessive vibrating deck has me worried.

The local Home Depot where I live has these Cub Cadet's for sale. However, HD doesn't upkeep them real well. One of these zero turns had a flat tire that was completely off the rim, making the mower have a sizable list.

For a cheap repairable mower > I'am happy with the Pony. I mow 12 acers with it, and i put it threw HELL! Hitting limbs, pine cones, Gopher Mounds, Fire Ant mounds, all that sand and dirt is hard on blades.. but she a little beast. I put a hitch on it to pull trailers, I load them down with fire wood, and trash, limbs, and things. Then i put a chain on the hitch to drag logs with it. I work it hard 👍👍 I'am lucky to get 2 months out a set of blades > Now the bad about the Pony all that grass goes on top of the deck and wear out the deck belts, I tried to adjust the tilt. but it still pills up on top of the deck. Wearing out belts Plus its bad about > getting little limb and pine cones up into the deck belts, and BUSTING THEM > The engagement cables is always breaking. From all the trash up on the deck. So i have to keep 2 on hand > The cable pull out of the spring hinger. Very rare it breaks the cable! SO there is a factory flag🔴 THERE > Poor designed 👉👉 All that hold the cable into the spring hanger. IS LEAD 👉👉 They need to weld a metal ball in to the cable.. The spring hanger is made out of cheap metal, and some time the hook breaks
