In "Uncle Andy vs. The Snowblower", Taryl goes over what it takes to properly swap over a Briggs 23 hp engine in place of a 23 hp Kohler Command on a Cub Cadet zero turn mower. Prior to and after the fix, Uncle Andy shows up to shovel Taryl's snow which doesn't work out too well for him. See how it all unfolds in another hilarious yet informative how-to video from your pals at Grass Rats Garage!

I was always taught remove negative of battery first. If spanner touches engine or bodywork nothing happens, if you disconnect positive first and touch bodywork you discharge battery like your ark welding. It burns spanner’s blows holes in bodywork. I said this to a buddy a long time ago as he disconnected his battery, he said nah always done it this way and two seconds later bam, his gold ring touched the car bodywork and the ring was also touching the spanner which was on the positive post of the batter, he blew out part of the ring and it was glowing, he had to run into the house and pour cold water on the ring. Negative connection first disconnecting battery, negative connection last when connecting battery. This applies to electrical systems with negative earth. (The negative attaches to the bodywork). Some really really old systems may have positive earth (The positive connects to the bodywork). In this case the opposite applies.

Reminds me of the fairly new Gravely ZT that I had to put a new Krohler engine on. Customer changed the oil himself and forgot to make sure he got the old gasket off for the filter before he put the new one on. You can guess the rest. If the crank hadn’t come around and slammed what was left of the rod into the base of the cylinder on that side, I could have saved it. $1000 engine later and he was back in business, but it was an expensive lesson learned...... Funny thing, Scrub Cadet is MTD, Husqvarna is AYP! Ya got a half breed now!

After watching your videos for the past year, I really like to get more involved in small engine repair. Currently taking a class at my local community college. Your how to videos are much more entertaining than going to school. Question: As far as welding, which welder do your recommend for the hobbyist. The oxy-acetylene seems like the best option over others, even though gas is somewhat outdated compared to mig and tig. Maybe a future video can be related to if you need to weld, bend, or cut metal?
