More issues with the Scrub Cadet. Looks like the job got a little more in-depth. I also speak a little about my Woodmizer LT 70 sawmill.

I like what you said, the easiest lawn mower to work on, because they all break down in the end...I'm 62 on disability but I can sit and mow, even with rods in my back by my spine, I don't make enough money and wife has stage 4 lung cancer, I was wanting the ZT1 42 inch Cub Cadet from a dealer rather than the big box store so if something does go wrong hoping they can work on it for me, though I can do some things still I'm just not as strong as I once was...but I appreciate your video, it made me think...Peace to you and yours JB....great vid...I it the subscribe button too...take care sir.

I'm after thee ZT1 42 as well and will be going to a dealer too. There's a highly rated dealer that's been there for many years I will be buying from. The one I want has a Kawasaki engine. That Kohler is just too loud. I will likely buy this week. In reference to this video, I've seen these cheap bearings for 20 years. I'm a former Diesel Mechanic and a machine Mechanic for Nestle Foods on the high-speed candy lines for 27 years. Happily, retired now with my tools just sitting. Your wife has my prayers sir and you too. Take care.

It probably has sealed bearing in the the spindles, my question is how greasing the spindles with a grease gun, puts grease in a sealed bearing. I take the bearings out right after I purchase a mower, hand greasing the bearing, I also leave the the seals out of the bearings on the inside of the spindles, leave the seals on the outside, this will allow grease to enter the bearing when you grease with a grease gun. My dad owned 2 cub cadets in his life, he always said he knew why MTD painted them Yellow,lol.

Bearings suffix: Two seals (both sides) PP One seal (one side) P Two shields DD One shield D example: Fafnir 5208 PP, has two sealed sides I normally open a new bearing up, flush it out with diesel fuel & repack them with fresh grease because what they come with isn't very good. One other thing to note, if you have a greaseable spindle housing, always remove the seals on the inner side of each bearing. But keep the outer seals in place This way, when you grease the spindles, the grease coming in can push the old grease out I use the green grease for my JD Excellent How To, Thanks

Thank you very much. This mower came from an independent dealer. Some people just don’t take any pride in their work. The dealership had just delivered this back to my mom the day she called and said it wasn’t running right. If they had turned the deck on, they would have heard the bearings. If I was running a mower shop, that would be standard practice. Check the simple things in every mower. That’s a good way to show your customers that you care and a way to gain some extra business. If you like the cub cadet mowers, I would get one. Hopefully, you will have better luck. Good luck sir. I will keep you and your wife in my prayers. Thank you for watching and look for more videos soon. I’ve got a bunch coming up on my LT 70 Woodmizer’s sawmill.

I agree. If I was a wealthy man, I would start an appliances company and build them as close to how they were made 50 years ago. Even if they were double the cost, I think they would sell because they would last 4 times as long. And, I would sell direct. Not through the big box stores. Service would be done by people employed by the company, not by a third party. Businesses that used to be good, honorable businesses have watered themselves down to the point that they sell crap.

What you just experienced, was the cheap $20 spindles that they use. Mine experienced the exact same issue. Also the throttle control is a cheap piece of plastic, and will break on you soon. PTO switch will fail soon as well. Some have complained of ground faults from either the ignition switch, or safety switches. Grass shoot is cheap and breaks easily, deck on grass flap side damages easily. Typical scrub cadet!

Have seen many bearings like that brand new with little to no grease. Have also repaired them just the way you did. Many people will just toss them for new ones not knowing if the new ones have any grease either. I've been a mechanic for almost 50 years and never liked sealed bearings.
@WillowRidgeLumber

I’m agree. I don’t like them either. Cheap junk. If a quality bearing is constantly rotating in clean grease or clean oil, and if it doesn’t experience excessive conditions like lateral strain, it will last for years. Thanks for watching. Be sure to check out my other videos. I have some coming out soon where I work on my LT 70 sawmill. I tell people all the time that I’m a part time sawmiller, full time mechanic.

*Tip from a Geezer...get some black(or any colour really) nitrile gloves for whenever you're dealing with grease, oil, or whatever else. Those hand degreasers are expensive nowadays! I doubt all those petroleum products will make you sick or anything, but why take a chance too, eh? As you get older, if you've listened to the tips that the older guys passed on along the way, you'll appreciate the positive effects on your health, when you compare yourself to the whippersnappers who didn't listen, cause they knew everything already. 😉. Take care, and 1 more thing... "Safety First" will save your life someday. Take care of your body's health, and you'll be one step closer, to being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor down the road...👍🏻 Great video btw. Thanks for doing this, and doing it well, Bud🙏🏻

I have some. Where I’ve cut, burned, and smashed my fingers over the years, I don’t have much feeling in my finger tips. I have a hard time feeling things with no gloves on. I think that’s why I drop things so much. Usually, when I working with chemicals, I wear them. I’m bad to fly into a job and not even think about it. Thanks for the tip. I’m glad you liked the video. Depending on who the person operating the mower is, sealed bearings may be ok. When I bought my Gravely, I didn't like the fact that it had sealed bearings. The dealer told me something that I never forgot. He said that sealed bearings are better than greaseable ones if no one ever greases it. He is right. Like I said in the video, my mower will soon be 20 years old. It takes me 2 hours to mow. The hour meter quit at 700 hours, so I don't know how many hours is on it. Id say over 1000. The spindles on it are non-greaseable / non-serviceable. So, when they go bad, the whole spindle has to be replaced. I've replaced the left and right 1 time each in nearly 20 years. I know there are differences in good bearings like a Timken over a China made bearing. However, in my opinion the secret is the grease and the condition that its in. Thank you for watching! Be sure to check out my video where I am measuring bearings with a dial caliper.

Go to Amazon.com and put in the search box the following: B07BDCHHGT That should pull up the bearings that I purchased. Make sure that you get a high quality, high temp wheel bearing grease. Marine wheel bearing grease is even better. Pack the bearings like I did in the video as tight with grease as you can get them. I know its aggravating, but the bearings need to be removed around every 100 hours and re-packed. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for watching the channel.

I would say that under normal mowing conditions, I would repack these kinds of bearings about every 100 hours of usage. I repack those little bearings that go on the roller guides for my sawmill about every 100-150 hours. I just did those. They were getting fairly dry at 150 hours. Thank you for watching. Why does a zero turn mower have a stering wheel?
@WillowRidgeLumber
@WillowRidgeLumber 2 ай бұрын
The steering wheel is connected to the linkage that controls each individual drive motor. It is intended for people who want the maneuverability of zero turn, with the simplicity of using a steering wheel instead of two levers.
@andrewkirkpatrick8517
@andrewkirkpatrick8517 Ай бұрын
Steering wheel turns the front wheels, they do not spin freely like a normal zero turn. This allows you to mow on much steeper hills without losing traction. If you mow hills, this is the best type of mower you can buy.
@bobmacdonald3297
@bobmacdonald3297 Ай бұрын
It’s a cub cadet exclusive design. Tye wheels don’t free float like a traditional zero turn. The steering wheel controls the front wheels while simultaneously controlling the rear independent transmissions. It improves keeping the machine straight on slopes.
