This just saved my entire weekend! I've been playing around with Cubase and struggled to get massive orchestral sounds (when needed). I literally got red cheeks when I tried it while watching these tips. I could type for hours but I'm going to enhance my most recent piece with massive sounds. Thanks!

Great tut, helps a lot. Tell me please, is there ANY POSSIBILITY to record "chordpad modifiers" like a midi data (tension etc.) and modify them like automation? That would be a magic!!! I cant get it that way.. :/ Lookin forward for your aswer, cheers! ))

Great tip, makes it totally epic! Thanks. How does one assigned both midi tracks to the chord track? Tat bit wasn’t very clear to me. Cheers

Simply select the track(s) you want to use chord pads on, open the chord pad editor and It'll automatically work when you press the trigger keys or click on the chord pads. Just make sure to close the editor if youre not using the chords.

I have been digging through videos trying to find one function.. is there any way to "play" a chord via the midi keyboard directly to a pad? or to drag and drop a midi chord from a track into a pad? I sometimes I create unique chords that im like "ooooh" but don't know what the exact chord name would be called to find in the lists.. and so far have quite a few I can't seem to find/replicate.. is just easier to play them physically..but would really love to be able to play a chord directly via what i press on the keys to a chord pad to use later.. Or even save to import later as a template.. does this functionality exsist? if so.. could someone possibly explain how to do it.. This current scene I'm working on is really complex, and would make my life so much easier if I could do this.

Great tip as usual, but I just want to be clear; if my chord (I) for example has the notes A,B,C,D, would this mean that A is directed to Violins, B to Viola, C to Celli, D to double Bass? Or does this send A to all four and B to all four etc (is this divisi?)
@PoundSound
@PoundSound 4 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes, Good question! I'm actually looking into this to see if there's a Kontakt script or logical function trickery that can allow to you assign notes A,B,C or D to trigger the correct voicing for each instrument every-time (with legato). At the moment it sends the MIDI to all four patches, so it's acting like Divis. You might find some libraries wont play ball properly when it comes to using legato patches with this, however some like CS2 do let you use Legato patches.

PoundSound I forgot to mention that some libraries and composers do not care for realistic placement and positioning of the orchestra or for a realistic number of players in a section. So it might be ok for some but not ok for others, having the option is always nice. I’m not sure which library had 66 basses but, yeah, unrealistic and soooooo good sounding.

I believe 8Dio are the evil geniuses behind 66 basses :) - But yeah, it'd be great to have the best of both worlds!

Great tutorial. Does the mod wheel control expression for all the patches at once?
@PoundSound
@PoundSound 4 жыл бұрын
Yep!. You can always create seperate midi channels to control individual patches (as normal) then remove the mod wheel data off the chord control channel if you want to create a seperate performance for each.
@anthonykolliopoulos

Nice... This is great for sketch. Then you can copy different midi to their individual instrument. Right?
@PoundSound
@PoundSound 4 жыл бұрын
If you're using MIDI modifiers to adjust the voicing for all 4 sends, when recording it'll create a MIDI note for each voicing. So if you cut and past the MIDI you might have to open the piano roll and remove unwanted voicing (on the channel you've pasted to)
@anthonykolliopoulos
@anthonykolliopoulos 4 жыл бұрын
@@PoundSound Yes, removing unwanted voicing is much more simple in piano roll when you choose the option event color by channel

Hi! I've watched this tutorial several times now, and finally decided to give it a go with my Cubase Elements 9.5. I fell at the second hurdle, because the Inspector for my MIDI channel shows no MIDI Sends (or inserts) In 'Settings' MIDI Sends & Inserts are not shown as options, so I cannot proceed. I've checked out 'Preferences' and can't see any reference to Sends & Inserts; so, I'm stuck! Any ideas, anyone?
@PoundSound
@PoundSound 4 жыл бұрын
Don't think elements has MIDI sends. That feature's for Pro (and I think Artist, not sure without checking).

@PoundSound

You can't. Elements is very limited, things like this (and expression maps) are for Pro version of Cubase.

HE? Why dont you just change the midi channel number of each instrument to channel 1? Then you dont have to do this midi send thing..
@PoundSound
@PoundSound 3 жыл бұрын
Because it's not as flexible. You can use MIDI modifiers to voice each patch indipendantly across different registers and control it from 1 MIDI track. Just setting everything to 1 on your instrument track and playing doesn't allow you to achieve this. Also means you could use seperatee midi tacks to control the individual patches as normal, then use the "master control" midi channel to do chords and not need to load anything extra.
Most people totally miss this powerful MIDI tool!
