A uniform grind can greatly improve a cup of coffee. Burr mill coffee grinders are known for producing a more uniform grind than blade grinders, but how big is the difference? In this video, we'll find out.

Another big difference between burr grinders and blade models, that you didn't mention, is that blade grinders create a lot of friction which in turn creates more heat. Heat will damage the delicate flavor compounds in your coffee beans. And here's a tip when using your burr grinder, if you want to adjust or change the grind size, and there are beans in the hopper, you should only do it while the machine is running. Turning the adjustment back and forth while the hopper is full can damage your burrs or throw off the alignment of them if there are beans in between them when the motor is stopped.

helpfulnatural Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I can't believe I forgot to mention the heat/friction issue with blade grinders. Thanks for pointing out the omission. I don't think the adjustment issue you mention is a problem with this particular grinder though. The burrs are metal and the whole machine is very sturdy. I doubt it would be damaged even if beans are between the burrs. At the very least you would have to feel heavy resistance and keep turning anyway before it could be damaged. TBH, I hadn't considered this issue until you brought it up. Thanks again for your great comment.

Actually, most burr grinders do have metal burrs but the gears attaching them, underneath where you can't see them without taking the machine apart, are plastic. With enough force/pressure on them while adjusting the grind with a full bean hopper, can or will cause them to snap or shear off the teeth. Just sayin'.

That was a very good review. I have the mr coffee grinder that you displayed and is a good durable blade grinder. It's great for expresso. You will get a bitter flavor if you are using a French press. Time for a burr grinder. Thanks again for your review.
