In this core skills video, we want to show you how important brush strokes are for layering. This video aims to help you with blending, and the power sword is perfect for practicing this on.
* the milky looking liquid on the pallette is water effects that was being used for some upcoming box art!
Edit: I think a base coat of Dark Sea Blue with a tiny bit of Turquoise will give a better result then pure Dark Sea Blue, as it will results in a more saturated shadow. This is why it comes up during the base stage for the paint used.
Paint list:
VMC Dark sea blue or GW Stegadon Scale Green
VMC Turquoise or GW Sotek Green
VMC Blue Green or GW Temple Guard Blue
VMC Ivory or GW Screaming Skull
* Sword from Conversion World - www.conversionworld.de/
Paint list key:
GW: Games workshop
VMC: Vallejo model colour
VMA: Vallejo model air
VGC: Vallejo game colour
VGA: Vallejo game air
VMCS: Vallejo metal colour series
SC: Scale 75

I've seen a lot of videos on layering and glazing, most of them way longer than this one, and yet, the information here is well presented and complete, the zoom and the angle of the camera is great to show the technique, we have a clear view of the wet palette and your process doing the glaze, and how it should look more or less in the palette... So yeah, this is definitely the best video on the subject I've seen. Thanks Andy, really well done, as the rest of the videos so far.

I watched your interview with Vince and the way you described figuring out volume highlighting is exactly what most beginners struggle with. Would be cool to see a tutorial focused on that with your style of naratting...

Great vid, very helpful. I have never really looking into "natural" reflections for weapons. I find myself having trouble painting power weapons with this style when they are oddly shaped. I have a Custodes army and the classic straight sword shape is pretty easy so do, but weapons like the glaive and axe are really giving me a headache. Especially since the weapons are held in different angles. Is there an "easy" way to get some "realistic" reflections for those type of curvy weapons?
