"The Order" or the "Kingston Clan" is known for their incestuous practices of polygamy in an effort to keep their "bloodline pure". They are a fundamentalist branch of Mormonism in Salt Lake City where marrying 1st cousins and even half siblings is seen as perfectly fine. ‪@TheAmandaRaeGrant‬ who was raised in this group, escaped at 17 and was seen on the TV show "Escaping Polygamy" helping others to do the same. Learn the ins and outs of this cult and why she so badly wanted out.

It's because women are raised to be quiet. I also think the law in Utah and other states where there's a heavy influx of mormons, plus the powers that be because they're voted in and they in turn hire the police who would be the first to be a part of the complaints and turn their heads. Only way to deal at this point is to get out.

I was in an abusive relationship when I was young, and it took about a month from when I broke up with my abuser for me to have the lightbulb click on in my brain, where I told a good friend, who was awesomely supportive and helpful through that process, "Wait, was this abuse?" That friend, who had volunteered at a domestic violence shelter in the past said, "I wanted you to get their on your own, because I didn't think that you were ready for someone to tell you that yet." I am actually grateful that he let me get there on my own, because, if he had told me, I would have defended my abuser, and I might have gone back. After that moment, I did all of the research, and was checking off almost everything on the "Am I in an abusive relationship?" checklists. Now, I am in a much healthier space.

@@actingqweenI was in an abusive marriage as well. His abusive behavior was so gradual in the way it developed that I didn't even realize it was abusive until it got really bad. I was so happy with my first child that my focus was on that. There were definitely things that I didn't like, but I would just defer to him because he was a little older, had more life experience, etc. And he did teach me a lot of good things about budgeting, etc. But then it became just so much worse. He wanted total control of my life. About two months before my due date, he punched me in the chest as hard as he could. I'd just fallen asleep facing him. When I caught my breath, I asked him why he would do that. He said he had fallen asleep, and was dreaming he was fighting someone. I was just thinking, "What!?" After a couple of minutes, I realized that the same episode of "Seinfeld" was on that we'd been watching when I fell asleep. There's no way he would have fallen asleep and been dreaming in a few minutes.I should have run away right then. I'm not sure why I didn't. Anyway, it was a week or so after when I remembered that two of our coworkers were talking about how you could kill someone if you hit them in the chest really hard. They were arguing about it. One didn't believe it was possible, but the other said he'd seen some case about it or something. I was only half listening at the time, and that's why it didn't ring a bell immediately after my ex hit me. Anyway, long story, sorry. I eventually got away, but it took years, and I still have scars. But I did get a happy ending.

It was similar for me. My mother was incredibly abusive and neglectful when I was a kid, but because it wasn’t severe physical abuse I didn’t realize it counted as abuse at all until I was about 20. And my first serious relationship was a very abusive one, but I didn’t realize that was abuse either. I knew it made me feel awful about myself and that he hurt me, but it wasn’t until I’d been broken up with him for a year that I realized it was abuse. So friends and I were all talking about shitty exes and my friend said something about her “abusive ex husband”, but the things he did to her were the same things my ex had done to me. I pulled her aside later and asked her about it and said “that’s abuse? I thought it was just normal crappy ex-boyfriend shit.” She gave me a hug and said “yeah, that’s abuse. I’m sorry you’re in this club too.” This was less than a year after I came to terms with the fact that my mother was abusive, so it felt like a lot. I managed to get some help and I did a lot of reading on narcissistic parents and how children of narcissistic parents often find themselves in abusive relationships. After that I found my now-husband who is amazing and we’ve been together almost 20 years (I’m old, lol).

@@Annie_Annie__ It's so hard to see "invisible" abuse. Also, it's hard because it's so unknown. People think that it's not so bad, but I remember when I had to think back to before it started and ask myself who I really was. I can't imagine what it must be like to experience it from the start, and not have a "prior self" to relate to. I'm glad that you're doing well!!

Such lazy lions. Hearing about these systems always makes me think of lions. The lionesses take care of the cubs and hunts and does everything. All the lions do is hump, sleep, and fight other males. It really is crazy how men have ever been able to convince women that we are the inferior. We are literally the gateway into this world through our bodies, we "mature" quicker.... aka smarter lol. We are able to keep 1000 balls in the air while the man focuses on one thing at a time. I don't mean to bash men because there are some wonderful men out there. I just mean historically and I guess religiously, it's mind blowing how things have gone. We make a house a home. We make the heart warm. We keep the belly full. We bring the babies into the world. We go out there and work too. We bring home the bacon, cook it, clean up afterwards, "clean out the pipe" for our men. We are amazing creatures.

@@codirennke1109 the lion thing is… innacurate but that’s not what bothers me. Men should not have dominion over women or other men for that matter. While saying you don’t mean to bash men, that’s what you do. A lot of men literally work themselves to death, especially blue collar, working class men. A lot of us have broken bodies from laboring to provide a decent life for our families. This topic is about a demographic and an oppressive religious culture and I include traditional Christian community. There are a lot of men with these depraved values and a lot of women who are complicit in perpetuating an amoral society. All these people need to be freed from these horrible beliefs; these women need to be supported and to know there is a better way.

The Habsburg royal family in Spain literally inbred themselves out of existence. The last Habsburg king was the result of three generations of uncle-niece marriages. He was so deformed and sick he couldn’t father children. His sister, (also married her uncle), her child and grandchild all died young. Mother Nature takes care of inbreeding sooner or later.

Some victims continuously suffer because they don't know any different. Can you blame them for not leaving if they didn't even know this was an option or didn't want to risk the safety of their family? As usual, men making their own rules. I am 65 & have come to the conclusion that the majority of men are narcissists, don’t have a woman’s best interest in mind & simple minded. Using God’s word to manipulate is the worst. My husband committed suicide when I was 29, leaving me with 2 small sons. I know it sounds harsh, but it was a blessing. I have dated 3 men & decided that I am so much happier by myself. I don’t want/need another man child to be a slave to or contend with. Thank you for bringing this awareness to women.

The problem with human beings is that they adapt and take advantage of systems which can boost their status or other power for their own advantage. Neurobiologically men on average statistically have systems which reward them more highly for aggression (whether coercive, manipulation, threatening or pure physical violence) giving you a "high" & fewer systems to introduce down regulation by introducing other neurotransmitters which make you feel "low" (eg anxiety, shame, basically called neuroticism). Add together a society since men decided war was a good way of hoarding resources of social conditioning geared towards controlling & using women for their needs (just try and think of an ancient text which isn't centred around war!) and you have women weaponised by their own biology and utterly unaware of it. Men know on average on mass how to weponize women's Neurobiologically even if its a higher awareness of threatening behaviour, to coerce when they can't be bothered to beat into submission. Narcissism is "reported" as being a tiny proportion of the population (between 3 - 5%) and higher statistically male, of that tiny percentage. These are old studies which are mainly done on prison populations to achieve diagnosis rates as no narcissist actually goes to a diagnostically capable professional (eg psychiatrist) (& tells the truth!) Knowing that doing so might result in a diagnosis! Its a rigged system which actually allows a huge majority of men to behave narcissistically and further, psycopathically and sociopathically, without the predator ever being labelled. That doesn't mean that women can't be narcissistic, ( I have encountered a few personally as they use systems again to elevate power and control and get sadistic pleasure from usurping other women). However, the undeniable rates of DV, SA, Coercion by men against women across every world population, since statistica began to be recorded over the mass of 7 by humans on the planet, is clear correlation to narcissism as an adaption which an overwhelming majority of men take advantage of. Women and men who try to argue that narcissism exists v rarely are being gaslit by old statistics and live in a bubble where they personally haven't been victimised by one (or flying monkeys for one)

As a woman who’s had 4 consecutive unexplained miscarriages my heart goes out to those in the community who can’t have children. I’ve had every investigation possible and I’ve still been told there’s no reason why I lost all my babies. There’s nothing I could’ve done differently nor anything I could’ve done to change the outcome and to know there will be women in this community who are demonised for not being able to have babies is absolutely heart breaking.

I'm so sorry that you went through that. You can rest in the knowledge that you are loved by God, he cares for you. Not having children when you want them is hard. But the treatment you've received isn't from God but men. Stand up, wipe your tears and help others that are going through the same thing. Read the Bible together and learn how "God" feels about you, not men. God bless.

The thing that makes having children with close relatives dangerous is that if you have similar genetics, you’re more likely to be carrying the same mutations of genes. For example, you could carry a gene for a blood disorder, but if you marry someone unrelated who doesn’t have the gene, your child won’t actually get the disorder. They might still be a carrier, but they won’t be sick. However if you have a child with a relative who is more likely to be carrying the same mutated gene, you are way more likely to have a child who has the disorder. So my guess about the “blood tests” she’s referencing is that they were testing to see if they were carriers of certain genes.

Women getting pregnant every year do have bad health (poor nutrition, terribly fatigued, anemic) And their uterus "wears out" and doesn't work efficiently. That causes hemorrhage because the uterine muscle can't "clamp down" after birth any more. BTW, Michelle Duggar in cult, iblp, (19 kids and counting) had 20 children, but 2 pregnancies were twins and one miscarriage. That is still too many pregnancies for a uterus!!

Keep playing snd having fun like you do in your videos if it doesn't resonate with sone let them drop off and stay firm in just being you as you are. Being original can be isolating but don't play smaller for anyone . You ladies are each so incredible and an inspiration I am 60 years old and learning, laughing right along with you. Historical note for you: I think in ancient Egypt they did marry siblings. Biology note: There is absolutely a difference in whether or not you grow up with someone or not. When you grow up with someone, there is a phenomenon called the Westermarck Effect that tends to make you feel instinctively that you shouldn't marry that person. In contrast, when you DON'T know the person at all, there can be such a thing as Genetic Sexual Attraction, which is basically where a person is attracted to the similarities in that person (sometimes without knowing the other person is related). For good reason, we have laws and morals forbidding that. (Not an excuse to blame the kids though, since they have no control over their lineage.)

Another illuminating video from two knowledgeable, radiant women! ✨️ Thank you so much. Wall of text incoming 😅: Really makes me wonder what would happen if the Kingston women "unionized." They are so damn valuable. If they just KNEW it, they wouldn't even have to leave to have better treatment. The leaders would have to cave and give into their demands, or the men would lose everything. My mother wasn't in a cult per se, but has been in abusive marriages that were cult-like. She ALWAYS defers to men and has NO confidence in her own decision-making, even though she has deconstructed and is now single. I tell her all the time (and get very frustrated at times) that she's an ADULT who supported us for YEARS. She doesn't need anyone to give her permission!! But it's so hard to deprogram. On the note of, "I held this baby and knew I would marry her," that's the same thing President Grover Cleveland said about his wife, Frances Folsom. Her father died when she was a child and Cleveland was her GUARDIAN and in charge of her family estate. 🤮

I heard they did baptism for the dead for Ann Frank. That's so offensive. I have LDS relatives in California and they were so sweet helping with genealogical stuff, but it broke my heart when I found out that the main reason they do that is for baptism for the dead.

I have had the ostracisation of family. I'm not practising mormonism but before my parents divorced we were in this religion. My mother had custody of us as we left the LDS. My father stayed. After his mum passed away he went crazy and sent death threats down the phone and we were so scared to go to her funeral (she wasn't LDS). He had a child with another lady who became his wife (incidentally third but he wasn't polygamist). They had a daughter who I tried so hard to have a relationship with when I was growing up - I would have very few visitations with my dad. He wrote us (my sister from his marriage to my mum) a letter after my nanna passed and told us we were no longer a part of his family and that I was to have no relationship with my baby sister. He got sick and decided 20 years after he disowned us to write to us to find out if he was a grandfather or not. We wrote back basically telling him he had forfeited all rights to know because he chose estrangement - he called us deranged. because we wouldn't give him the answer he wanted. He died and we did the dutiful thing and attended his funeral (which was very weird) and meeting my sister after years, her being an adult, we were still met with stoney silence. We do bot have a relationship even 6 years after my father's death.

Words cannot say how many times I identified memories, feelings, moments, and more in this interview. I was a brief convert of LDS (my choice), so I remember vague parts of the religion though didn't connect them to maybe some underlying issues I've had inside myself (ex: "needing to be the perfect person" schema, relationship with my body, etc.). It's been weird and wonderful and so wild to get those little ah huh's this episode and thank you for sharing !! Amanda Rae is so cool and continue being yourself girly. I love what you said about there's three parts of yourself and living as your true 'self' is when those three parts would be described as the same.

Hispanic man here - Probably not me, but I grew up in Davis County, UT. Once upon a time, about Spring 2009, a woman named "Julie" cheated on her Kingston Clan husband with me. Doubt I was the one from the story, but it did catch my ear lol.

I don’t know much about the Morman Church and it’s teachings but I do know I am livid about what I have learnt today. I am especially angry at how these disgusting males get away with using and abusing women & children for their own selfish gain & gratification. How you ladies have survived this toxic, controlling, cruel & paedophilic cult is beyond me. I am overwhelmed by your strength, your courage and tenacity. Thank you for opening up your lives to us and for shedding light on this horrendous religious organisation.

As I read my Brighamite branch of my g grandmother's (Julia Hills Johnson Smith) journal, I discovered her daughter included an epilogue. She said this second generation polygamist, third wife of Joesph Smith's cousin Jesse N. Smith... accepted polygamy happily since she was born into it. Indoctrinated from birth kept screaming in my mind. She was one of the many daughters of Joel Hills Johnson, the writer of High on a Mountain Top... the LD$ hymn. Groomed. And obviously, that was okay. Every few years there are huge family reunions for the progenitors of these MEN and we are supposed to sing their praises for being so faithful and righteous. Even the obituaries of the plural wives praise the men. The age differences between husband and wives tell a whole story of exploitation and abuse on their own. Barf.

Amazing interview!! Please, do more episodes with Amanda!! Some members of my family are part of a catholic cult. They are really deep into it since many many years ago (many years before I was even born). It's very interesting and heartbreaking seeing how different coercitive groups share so many traits! @43:20 my SIL married a man that was 33 years older then her that was a friend of the family. The man use to make jokes about "how's my future wife doing today?" when she was little and they have pictures of him holding her as a toddler. He swooped in right after she got out of an abusive relationship and love bombed her so hard, they were living together within 2 months, married less then a year later. It surprised me just how little this all seemed to bother anyone else. This still makes me so uncomfortable to even think about, I couldn't image it just being a normal part of life. Makes my heart break for all those girls stuck in that cult.

In response to some inaccuracies. The Kingston group was started by Charles "Elden" Kingston. The second leader of his group, John "Ortell" Kingston was his full brother, not his son. Their father was Charles William Kingston, Order man #5. The two women sent to kill Rulon Allred in 1977 were aged 19 and 20. The 19 year old shooter was married to Ervil. The 20 year old accomplice was Ervil's step daughter. She's the daughter of Anna Mae, who was married to Ervil.

I have actually met 2 people that had direct experience with a cult. And, I can’t grasp even the small stories they had. And, I wish I could catch the casts live. But, I learn so much from you all.
