they are great up until about 150k then the cats usually fall apart lol, atleast the ones in our school buses do
@LZGAjeepslav7997 жыл бұрын
Our school buses are all by IC. All of the '02 to '04 buses are equipped with T444's. Then the '05 - '15 models all have MaxxForce DT466's. The Board of Ed. purchased 5 '16 to replace the '02-'04 group over the summer. They're equipped with Cummins ISB6.7's. My old school had some Thomas built Freightliner FS-65's with C15 CAT's. The turbo whine sounded absolutely amazing on them. But they ended up in the garage for service so much that they barely even ran on routes.
@bryanb79187 жыл бұрын
yea most of our fleet is newer, we just got rid of our 04 blue bird with a cat in it, it wasn't too bad for the age, alot more powerful than that newer stuff but it just always leaked fluids lol. about half of the fleet are IC with either the Maxx force 6.4 or the 6.0, same engines used by ford. and honestly both are garbage, the 6.0 are bad about the egr coolers popping and then the 6.4 usually have the hipop start to leak or the fuel pressure sensor and then within 2 months the turbos break a shaft. The freightliner we have are the 12' and 13' versions with the isb 6.7 cummins and are good engines, but the exhaust filter stuff is junk. that and the computers always have the controlled area network issues that even freightliner knows about but won't fix lol. then we have the "lovely" freightliner transit style CNG busses that look like they are running a modified version of the old 6bt 24v engine from the 99 dodge lol those are nothing but issues
@bryanb79187 жыл бұрын
you're gonna miss the t444e once you start playing with all the awesome exhaust filter and fluid stuff.
@LZGAjeepslav7997 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, the 6.0 and 6.4 PowerStrokes are just crap. Why International decided to replicate them and call them MaxxForce's are beyond me. Had they stuck with a 6.7 or 7.3 PowerStroke, now we're talking. The 7.6L MaxxForce's we have don't have the problems people say they do. The 2013 MF's have issues with destroying turbo's. From what the mechanics say, there isn't enough oil pressure to flow through the turbo, so it just eats the bearings up. Don't get me wrong, I love the new ISB6.7. Sounds great under heavy acceleration, but I just cannot stand the need to have a DEF tank and having to replace the DPF filter every month or so. The driver on my route ended up with a 2016. She's had to replace the DPF filter twice now. If it weren't for a lack of parts and mechanics who would work on the T444's, and stricter emission standards for diesels, we would still be running strong with them. They were built like a tank. You could run them on Kerosene if you absolutely had to LOL.

The two times a 5.9 sounds like a semi ..... when it’s only got a down pipe from the turbo (with no silencer ring) And you GET ON IT while you shift. And then when you shut it off. ..... each Cummins engine has its own distinct sound. They all sound like a Cummins. But each one is a little different The 5.9 has its distinct sound. That occasionally can sound like a bigger engine like the 400..... But holy shit I want to put a first gen 5.9 in my 91 k3500. I hate the mileage I get. And I hate dicking with the 350 that’s under the hood I love my Muncie 4 speed but I want overdrive.... I either want a 7 speed spicer Or get a 2 speed box from advance and have twin sticks.... Maybe get the engine brake kit they have for the 5.9 but idk if it’ll work for the first gens..... I want to be purely mechanical. Direct injection Ve pump Manual waste gate Manual primer Etc. only wire I want on my engine is the one going to the starter. I want mechanical gauges.....to Mechanical oil gauge .... I know that’s not the smartest thing to have. But it’s easier to deal with. And it never lies to you like an electric one will Mechanical tach Mechanical speedo Mechanical boost gauge. I’m ok with electric temp gauge. Mechanical ammeter Glow plugs which I would hardly ever need in south Texas. But still better to have and not need than to need and not have. I’d probably have to put in coil over shocks to help with the weight of the 900/1000lbs Cummins. Since my truck has what I consider the shittiest suspension system ever..... torsion bars ..... they work. And are east to mess with. But they are rough riding And don’t give you a lot of room to work with in the way of transmissions especially if your truck is 4wd..... which mine is........ I’d use a 3.9 4bt because it would fit easier than the 5.9 but I’d rather have the 6 if I’m gunna be in the b series. And the 6 is a lot cheaper somehow......
@Slim_Slid3 жыл бұрын
If the 5.7L in your K3500 is a problem,just find a N/A or T/C 6.5L,espiecally if you can get one from a Military truck like a M1025-M1046 HMMWV or M1113-M1167 ECV because they are low miles in service compared to civilian trucks put to use.You would be getting 18-20 MPG or more with one anyway,even though they have 200 HP/390 TQ while the 6BT has 160-235 HP/400-460 TQ and would manage 17-19 MPG.But if you are going to run a 5.9L,please use a p pump instead.The p pumps on the 12V 6BT were for 1994-1998,the 1984-1993 6BT's all had the VE44.The 8.3L 6CT for 1985-1998 all had p pumps too,you can use one from those as well,and adjusting the governor would be easy enough.
@INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D3 жыл бұрын
@@Slim_Slid except the 6.5 has a plethora of problems. I’ve got a buddy at work who drives one He’s already replaced the head studs and moved the PMD but he’s always having issues with the pump drive or fuel leaks...... I’d rather have a 6.9 IDI I like the 6.5s but they take to much work to get them where they need to be..... they were designed to fail for the $$$$.
@Slim_Slid3 жыл бұрын
@@INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D You are thinking about the Duramax.Obviously the 6.5L is almost as old as the Cummins and the 6.2L is even older than the 12 Valve by two years apart.What do you expect? If you buy a 20-30 year old truck,problems are expected...And of course depending on who owned it,it could've been treated like dog shit and ran into the grave.The 6.2L & 6.5L were a huge success that General Motors had because of their fuel efficiency and how cheap they were compared to the 5.0L,5.7L,and 7.4L that were in trucks.They had a huge flaw with the 5.7L Oldsmobile,espiecally in cars.They had the highest rating in fuel economy compared to the Powerstroke and Cummins.Cummins had the perfect balance of power and fuel efficiency at the same time,and the Powerstroke had the most torque of them all,for a stock engine.If they are a failure,then why does the Military still use them? The Army and Marines now have the JLTV with the 6.6L LBZ that came out in 2015,but the HMMWV will not officially retire until 2042,such as the M1113-M1167 which have the T/C 6.5L,and were discontinued in production in 2005.The only problems that were major on the 6.2L & 6.5L were the harmonic balancers and fuel filters,that's it,all easy and cheap to fix.A Navistar will cost more than a Detroit on repairs down the road,the 6.9L-7.3L IDI is a great engine too,but it's not cheap compared to the 6.2L-6.5L.On the M1008-M1031 CUCV,they had a base which was a pain in the ass,that's why a NAPA fuel filter and water separator helped out in a big way,espiecally if you wanted clearence for the valves.If your buddy deals with leaks and head studs,it awfully sounds like his engine might be on the verge of a runaway engine...His harmonic balancer might as well is vibrating probably.
