First start after major overhaul of a Cummins 504 V-8. It goes in a Kawasaki front end load at my work.

I remember the 903 Cummings powerful but hard to keep running

I’ve never run the 555 or 903 in a truck. I’ve only run the 504’s in front end loaders. Not nearly the power that the 6v-71 detroits have which is the comparable motor. These v-8 Cummins were nothing but problems. I had fun building it but glad it’s not anything I own haha

Running with open ports like that, you'd think the dude would wear hearing protection! Or maybe he is wearing plugs!

They’re really not that loud with no load on them. Yes it’s loud, but not that loud. Maybe I’m already half deaf and don’t know it

Power, and torque…….. just enough to get it up to 2800rpm, no load. They even made a V 6. The 210 was about 185 hp, the V 6 was about 140 hp. Don’t forget, these engines had mechanical fuel systems, short strokes, they where better suited to marine, or running hydraulic drives, than variable speeds in automotive work. I worked on many of these engines in the 70’s. The 555 wasn’t an improvement. 265 ( second generation looked like a 903 ), and 903’s never really caught on. 855’s in-line 6, was where R & D money was going, and the KT. A lot of the small V 8’s where aimed at the medium duty repower market. Something that will fit in the engine bay, when the big gas pot mile’d out. One advantage over the 3208 Cat was the Cummins and Detroit engines had replaceable cylinder liners. They all got your load of gravel across town, put it that way.

Do they use glow plugs
@Autocar87 Жыл бұрын
No, they’re direct injection so no glow plugs needed.

This is just cummins version of the 3208 cat piece of s***

Nope, they were bummers for sure. Gotta work with what you’ve got. Once I rebuilt it, it’s been running strong since.

Don"t leave it running indoors for too long stupid. Does"nt sound like diesel without the exhaust sysyem.
